My review of the M4 during my 5yrs of service: 100% consistency.
Having been a very frequent shooter before joining, it was almost too easy ,but of course, there was plenty of city kids who made it appear much more difficult for the first couple years.
@ Ultra Unity: It is a cliche precisely because it is so often true, and has been true in the past, as well: recruits who possess privately-owned firearms and learned to shoot them prior to joining the military, tend to do very well when it comes to riflemanship.
Ken Royce, a.k.a. "Boston T. Party" of "Boston's Gun Bible," described it rather well, saying that the traditional view within the army has been that learning to handle a rifle and shoot it well is like learning to drive a car. In other words, once you are familiar-enough with the equipment to use it safely and competently, your training is done. That's a mistaken view of mastering of a firearm, for it is actually much more like mastering a musical instrument. Serviceable results can be attained quickly, but mastery takes a great deal of diligent and focused study and work.
The Marine Corps - whose traditional view of "Every Marine a Rifleman" is so much a part of their institutional identity - understood this better than the army for most of our history, but the army has caught up somewhat by forming their Army Marksmanship Unit, which is a tremendous resource for them. Regardless of what branch you join, you'll do better shooting if you did it as a civilian beforehand, and even better again, if you have done it for a long time and know your craft inside-and-out. And it certainly sounds like you did.

Block II actually started being fielded in the 2007-2008 timeframe. That 12” non-fsp rail was originally meant for the M16. You can find pics online of the original prototypes of the RIS II from 2006.
The first units in SOCOM to receive them didn’t start getting them until late-2009/early-2010. Never seen pics of them downrange before that. Most of the ODA guys didn’t even get them until 2013/2014 (and then those same units started to get the URGI by late-2019 - just five years later).

Yep. My response every time someone brings up that dumb "what would stoner do 2020" rifle.
Stoner sounds like my neighbors
@@davidtrumpy4908 You gonna say why its dumb?
@Patrick N I’m not sure why David thinks it’s dumb, but I’ll answer my opinion. It’s a polymer lower with a fixed stock molded to it. It’s a pencil barrel with carbon fiber wrapping, neat, but hardly practical as a “fighting weapon.” It lacks modularity where the AR15 is revered for that. It lacks durability, where the AR15 isn’t amazing, but plenty good. WWSD removes the positives of the AR platform and replaces it with dubious improvements. All for a hefty price tag that could be better spent on a BCM basic bitch AR with fixed FSGB.
@@BandAid350z you pretty much captured it. I also don't think it has anything to do with what Stoner would actually do today.

My MK18 weighs in close to 10 pounds, that includes a loaded mag, acog, suppressor, Surefire light, and a Peq15. One of the things I love about the AR platform is that, as you say, the M4 is becoming a piece of history...but also not quite. The M4 is just one configuration of the countless ones that can be built with the AR platform. The only real limit we have is that civilian versions can't fire full auto, which isn't such a huge deal imho (your mileage may vary). Even if the price of the parts for a true M4 clone are a bit beyond your price, you can still build one that'll work great. Building my first AR-15 has been a lot of fun.

@Stevospeedo So how many counties have tried to occupy US or Australia in your lifetime? I noticed when I was in US some people talk of scenarios "what if" type of deal (like you in your answer above). But the fact is nobody will ever try to invade US for obvious reason and as for Australia nobody will do it as well, my suggestion is to stop watching news and live your life without paranoia. We here live our lives without giving a shit about politics and paying very little to news (because they are all shite) and looking at the Guns that we can buy as things that we can have some fun over the weekend, but nothing more than that. Maybe try that yourself, it might help you stop making scenarios about guerilla warfare against imaginary invader.

Thanks, brother! Good stuff! 👍🏻
When I built my first AR it was back in 2012 and I went with a Daniel Defense Quadrail mostly because of the looks. Over the many years, I have been told that quadrails are a thing of the past, unnecessary, too heavy and offer no advantages over a much slimmer profile MLOC with picatinny inserts. It's nice to know they still serve a purpose especially in a rough and tumble environment.
I don't trust m-lok for heavy usage in the field
Bro, I got a Midwest Industries clone of the Daniel Defense quadrail for my 12.5 and it's heavy as shit. I love it. It's a natural compensator and it ads a metric shit ton of kinetic energy to rifle bashing and barrel checks.
Natrually, I stuck a warcomp on it 🤣
Spartan thrusting with a 3 prong flash hider over an older, birdcage variant puts so much energy into 3 small tiny surface areas. Kinda like brass knuckles 🤪
I'm still rocking mine! I have a AR pistol that does have the M-LOC and I love having both.
