    The opening crawl in the first film is very different from Lucas's original intention. The original text, used in the rough cut he showed to friends and studio executives in February 1977, appears in the Marvel Comics adaptation of the film. When originally released in May 1977, the first film was simply titled , as 20th Century Fox forbade Lucas to use a subtitle on grounds that it could be confusing, since there had been no other movies prior to 1977. In addition, it was not certain if the film would be followed with a sequel. When was released in 1980, the episode number, "Episode V", and subtitle "THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" appeared as the first two lines of the opening crawl. To match its sequel's crawl, the episode number "Episode IV" and subtitle "A NEW HOPE" were added for the film's theatrical re-release in April 1981. The original version, without the subtitle, was not released again until the 2006 limited edition DVDs. Also, the original version of 's crawl uses a lowercase "R" for "Rebel spaceships" and "Rebel spies", as, at the time, "Rebel" (in its meaning), just like "Imperial", was not considered some sort of demonym-like adjective as it is now.

    it wasnt called a new hope until 1997

    I have the reverse response when I see "A New Hope". It was originally Star Wars, no episode 4 or any of that garbage. George just added all that "new hope" and other junk to sell his prequels. Really the first movie is just "Star Wars".

      +theduckfu I cringed so hard when he complained that it wasn't labeled a new hope

      These comments are so untrue. The title was added in the second cinema run, before Empire came out, early 80's.

    a boxset like T2 or Signature Collection was always way more than 40 bucks. According to the Laserdisc Database (LDDB), your copy of Jaws was MSRP 150 dollars but there was also a set without the CD and book for 130.
    The cheapest releases tended to be around $30, a less deluxe CLV version of a Criterion Collection was usually 50.

    Very cool! The one thing I keep thinking in your first video was, "I wonder what his video collection looked like." Well, that did not disappoint. The Lazer Disk collection is killer. Nice work on video 2.

    beautiful laserdiscs, we didn't have laserdiscs in my country growing up, but I can relate to you, even though I'm older on those movies especially Batman Returns and Hook. Good video.

    Great top 10 buddy! I own most of those on either DVD or VHS, lol! I still haven't seen Raging Bull, which is odd because it's right up my alley, and I know I'd like it, I just never took the time to sit down and watch it, lol! Same for Dances with Wolves; I own the VHS, but just can't get myself to watch it! You should def go through your whole LD collection sometime, that'd be cool! Take care dude!

  • @zlink8

    Nice top 10! Just so you know, the stuff with tons of discs like jaws was because they have cav discs that only hold 30 min on a side, clv holds 1 hour per side. Also, when star wars IV is just called starwars it is because the prequels weren't there yet so it wasn't a point of confusion. Look up the original prices for some of that laserdisc stuff, I was checking it out and it blew my mind! lddb dot com listed the msrp on that jaws limited signature set as $149.99!

    • @rabarebra
      @rabarebra Před 3 lety

      In fact it was changed to Episode IV: A New Hope as early when the VHS came out.

    The reason the JAWS set has 4 Discs is because it's in CAV not CLV. Look it up, and you'll know.

    It's STAR WARS, that's what it was called in 1977. Lucas changed it to "A New Hope" for the lame GCI shit show that was the special editions. Nice collection!
