I think of one woman who got away from me every time I hear this song. I was in my late teens, early 20's. I was not quite established yet financially. Still in college, working part time. She was here from Bulgaria to see her family for the summer. I met her where I worked. I could not pass up the opportunity to strike a conversation with this unique, beautiful looking woman. We hit it off from the start. We had a summer I will never forget. But I knew she had to go back to Bulgaria. I wished so bad I could make her stay, and marry her. But I did not have the means of doing so. I am 42 years old now, and still it haunts me that she is on the other side of the world. If I could go back in time I would of "Begged, stealed, or borrowed" what I needed to get her to stay. I hope she is safe, happy, and healthy. If only I could see her for 10 minutes to hold and tell her what my real intentions were way back when. Miss you always my Daniella !!!!

Yup, I just turned 50 and the one that got away was my middle school-high school girl friend on and off for 5 years. We met again about 6 months ago, she was heartbroken over a guy and we went out for dinner and one drink. The guy came back in her life within a couple of weeks which I figured was gonna happen. I always thought of her through the years, even more than my ex wife. I'm very happy we met again even though it ended the way it did, very bittersweet.
Oh, and by the way every so often I remember this song and always go to this video, love it, great job

I dedicated this song to my ex-wife. We haven’t spoken or seen each other in a long time. She made it clear after our divorce was final since we didn’t have children that there was no reason to stay in touch and she went on her separate way. I’m still heartbroken to this day that we couldn’t be friends or at least keep in contact since she was a part of my life for 18 years but I have to respect her wishes. There are many good memories of our marriage and our time together that still haunts me to this day and not a day goes by that I’m not reminded of her in someway. I have a new life now I’ve been in a relationship to a wonderful woman for the last five years and we have a wonderful son together and I never bring it up around her but I will always love and miss my ex-wife and hope she’s doing well wherever she is. It’s very difficult to listen to the song without getting all choked up but it’s one of those things where you want it starts you just have to listen to it all the way through.

I hear you, my friend! I experienced this at the time it came out. I thought I'd met the right one, she was living in New York while I was in Florida and told me she was moving to Florida in a year. Her father even played along. It turned out she made a bet with her sister as to which sister would make a guy swoon over the other first. I was the guinea pig! For a year I believed her. Then I found out I was a bet. I was the male version of "She's All That!" I dated others after her in that year but still believed her when she'd call constantly. I've seen her since then! Boy, did I turn out OK in the end. She didn't!

About 30 years ago was the end of my relationship with the one that got away, I was about 20 and we went out on and off since the 8th grade, after being apart for about a year she agreed to meet me for drinks, it was just before Xmas and she didn't show, it devastated me. I thought of her ever since. We met up again about 6 months ago, she was heartbroken over a boyfriend, we met for dinner and a drink, she didn't even remember blowing me off 30 years ago. Anyway the boyfriend came back which I figured, but I'm very happy that we met up again, nothing happened but we talked a little about it and I think would have if he didn't come back. I didn't try anything at all and tried to be a supportive friend. Very bittersweet.
