    Where has this advice been all my life?? I have always been turned off by the "leadership training" given in public school and corporate settings. It felt like it was just about being a leader for the sake of being a leader or for pretending to be an important person. When he brings virtue into it, being a leader and working hard so you and those around you can grow in virtue, then it all makes sense!
    Without virtue, "being a leader" is just vanity.

    I’m definitely a melancholic. I’ve been telling myself lately “more courage, less pride!” Because I’m always discouraged when thinking I will fall short of what I’m aiming at. Sometimes, timidity is just the other side of pride. My husband is definitely choleric. So we even each other out 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Fantastic interview - thank you, Lila and Mr. Havard! Please consider changing the title (by-line) of the interview, as this is MUCH deeper and more powerful than the title lets on. The pro-life discussion at the beginning about Lejeune...just superb. One of the most engaging interviews I've seen in a while.

    Dear editors of this podcast,
    Please put out a short of the part where he talks about Jerôme discovering the genetic cause of down syndrome and then being told of doctor's ntent to use his discover to kill Down's children in the womb. I think the dramatic impact of that would be huge.
    Cheers

    Im a phlegmatic-melancholic. My biggest challenge is to be bold, because I am so aware of all the ways I, and other humans, fall short. And how most things only succeed by the grace of God. And what if I don't know the will of God? Because then I will "fail". Even thou Gods will is always the best, I really struggle with acting on things, when Im not sure if what I do and what God wants is the same. I have to be sure in mu heart, because there was a time before I was aware of God - and I know from that time, that because we fall short in so many ways, we set ourself up for failure because we dont know God, and therefore dont know the truth about who we are and how we are created to act. And those failure teach us, so we are really not afraid of failure: we are afraid of humility. Of realizing that we are not perfect and we dont do things perfect, because we are not perfect. But this also motivate me to pray alot and give thanks alot, and reach out to God in all I do. Because I want his perfection to guide everything. I want his perfection to be the center of every action,because he can provide the perfection that I cant provide without him ❤ His will, not mine❤

      Yes. Gratitude, charity and hope are some of the most important things to practice daily for melancholics. Be cautious of as well of criticizing spouses and children. We must confirm their ontological goodness regularly. May God bless you!

    Wow-around minute 51 in particular such GOOD advice about how not to judge other temperaments and the mindset that leads to 'they need to be more like me'. Definitely have been guilty of that! Such a beautiful way also to accept both your biology and the grace of working toward holiness that addresses each temperament's particular challenges.

    WOW. This conversation is actually pretty freeing. Not only in loving others better, but loving myself.
    I grew up feeling like my temperament (melancholic) was never loved or valued.
    I think my environment was already trying to drive choleric into me at a young age, through activities and sports etc. I've always been asked "Are you okay?" when I'm not engaging with others/smiling (I have resting sad face, not bitch face). It's taken me this long to realize that I feel ashamed to sit down and write - it feels like I'm not "good enough" - if I'm spending more than like an hour writing or reading. I have to say I am fairly choleric now out of the inner dictator/drill-sergeant in me, but I'm trying to love the melancholic that I am.

      I think this theory is most useful for parents, educators in general, including teachers, seeking for the educational approach that best works for their children. The theory is less useful for adults, whose personality's been shaped by their character -- understood as the efforts we employ to control our temperament and impulses -- as well as by their temperament.
      Ps: It was not surprising to see the comments above came from melancholics, who are very easily attracted to anything that may caress their ego or help them to have a throughout understanding of themselves, from astrology to Hippocrates...

    Would love to hear Alex Havard's thoughts on the claim by leading Exorcist and author Fr. Chad Ripperger, PhD's statement that...regular recitation of the Rosary (Our Lady's Psalter) is a means that Heaven has given us to cultivate ALL of the virtues. His thoughts on St. Louis de Montfort's famous book, The Secret of the Rosary, would also be very interesting. Best & God bless.

      @Jo_Cruz Před 27 dny

      Saint Teresa of Ávila stated that melancholics need to trust in God's grace. Saint Therese of the baby Jesus, who was melancholic, wrote this in her manuscript: "On this night of light the third period of my life began, the most beautiful of all, the most full of the graces of Heaven… In an instant the work I I couldn't do it in 10 years, Jesus did it by being content with my goodwill which I had never lacked (...). so vividly... I felt, in a word, charity entering my heart, the need to forget myself in order to give pleasure and since then I have been happy." The charity that was infused in his heart turned to others; at first, for the souls of sinners; later, for the souls of the priests. And all of this occurred because she trusted in the action of grace and allowed God to carry out a great transformation in her soul. Teresinha did not stop being melancholic, but she ordered the inclinations of this temperament towards the conquest of Heaven, converting her aptitude for recollection into prayer for sinners, like a true apostle.
