Watching you paint the coastal and landscapes scenes is so inspiring. You’re awesome at it you make a difficult practice, painting outside in the elements, look easy and fun thank you for sharing your painting adventures 🌊💦🎨👊🏻
Thanks Joanne!
i moved to the california coast recently and your videos helped inspire me to start plein air painting! finally did my first one yesterday
Very sucessful. I love the colour shifts which are subtle when you look at the whole composition but close up they are quite interesting. Also i don’t miss the horizon line, there’s enough going on in the picture.
Loved the emphasis on not breaking up the value patterns and the abstraction patterns
It’s always great to see how your painting progresses and then seeing the final result. And I feel a little bolder about getting out and painting as well.
Good morning Michael. Yeah, I liked the composition you showed even before painting! As usual, great energy. Thanks for the video 😀
Thanks Miriam! Good morning!
The running commentary is what really makes these videos really interesting. Thanks for sharing. Big fan all the way from South Africa.
Great video Michael, as usual. I think this painting is your best version of this location yet.
Thanks Andrew! I think the larger canvas really helped. Maybe I'll go back and do a 30x30" of the same composition!
Very nice painting. I found the rock treatment helpful.
Square format is my favourite , nice to see you have had great success with this one , well done , super video too, thank you for sharing
Really nice! Like the composition and how the brush strokes contribute to the structure of rocks. Has great energy!
Thanks David!
This is my favorite seascape demonstration so far. Exciting all the way through. The final picture really captures the roiling water, its chaos as it meets the rocks. Wonderful. gsw
Watched the podcast yesterday. It’s refreshing to hear creatives talking about the process and nodding my head in agreement with everything said!
The composition works on square format, and I think no horizon is a good idea for that format. Great painting.
Definitely a different composition for you Michael, but in my opinion, a total success! Beautiful painting. You really captured the energy of the scene--and I don't miss the horizon line one bit.
Thanks Michelle!
Always a good day when I get a notification that you have a new video up! Thank you for continuing to post! You’re such an inspiration.
This is one of your best paintings. My opinion.
True
- high ground , kissed into , upon a three dimensional rock , a transparency throughout, sea foam clings, condensing solidity midground , a levitation captured, beautiful ❤️
Thanks Mark!
i love the water on the rocks. I didn't understand when you first started that.
Very nice...adding the greens really worked...no horizon is interesting too!!!
Beautiful! I love how loose this one is and yet it totally reads. The lack of horizon works. Very vibrant with lots of movement.👍
Great job getting some relief in the large dark value mass without chopping it up! You did this with great success using a variety of color, within a believable range, directional brush strokes, and just enough pockets of water in the foreground rocks. I think the profile of the edge of the rocks along the water's edge is fantastic! Marvelous to see and hear you apply your gut responses so quickly and fluidly...intuitive as well as using your experience and knowledge. Mission accomplished!
Thanks Constance!
Wow. I love this painting. Next time, if you have time, let the view of the ocean and its sound be longer in your video at the end. You are so lucky to have that.
Good composition Michael! Do more like this!
Love your videos, man! They are better every time! Thanks for sharing!
I like the colors in that.
Thanks Mike ,magic happening, nice composition, Challenge met.
Great watching your painting process look forward to your weekly postings thank you
If you are still near pescadero CA, and if you are truly interested in oil painting, my grandfather still lives there and has some unique in my opinion oil paintings my father did while I was a child living there. He did a good amount of scenic oil paintings but on old saw blades. My my grandfather has some still hanging in his garage where he himself created all different kinds of things from wood. You're for kids, yard decorations that had parts that would move with the wind, and so much more. I think some actual real canvas art by my dad is still there as well. You should check it out if interested. Only mentioned it because your artwork reminded me of my dad's
Really nice result
Thanks!
Beautiful painting 💜
I liked the painting as it is, but when you mentioned that the horizon is missing, I started feeling that there's not enough air to breath. It was fine totally until you mentioned it, haha. Seems like it's actually really really good. And also I'm still amused by the way you give comments and be able to create at the same time. Looks like it became easier for you. I wonder if it seems challenging for you to paint sea without horizon or it's just you not preferring it? That's so interesting! Btw, must be exciting to say "I have INTERVIEW with my DAUGHTER, go check".😁 Thanks Mr Chamberlain!
Michael you have gotten sooooo good. I love your paintings. I love watching your videos. Keep up the good work. My favorites are always at Tuscadero. haha
Thanks Karen!
Total success 😊!
I had no idea Emma Chamberlain was your daughter! Very excited to hear this discussion. Two people who are killing it in their lanes
You nailed!!! Big thumbs Up!!!
great! Thanks for the class!
Everybody I admire is doing squares.Artist in front of me had a 48/48 Gallery Wrap, heavy duty.
Great video as always. One suggestion, we really can’t see the scene when you are painting it. Maybe you could cut away from your painting to the scene then back so we get the idea of it. I know you have a view of it at the end, and we can edges of it around the canvas but seeing scene, helps visualize what you are saying. Not sure how technically you can do that but I would find it helpful. Love your journey!

Good morning! There’s always something peaceful in your ocean paintings! Can I ask you what your favorite book is? 🙂
Masterful
Wonderful Paint as usual congratulations ✨
( 0:47 a blackbird, crossing the screen , maybe about a full second, cool ) 🐦⬛ 👀.
Love that mid tone Grey mixture for the distant water. I would love to know what colors were used.
I think I used a mix of ultramarine and titanium white with a touch of burnt sienna. I sometimes add a touch of alizarin as well but I don't think I did in this particular mix.
You can get that beautiful green/grey color with Gamblin Chromatic black and white. I have done many water and sky paintings by using that. It is always beautiful.
You're a class act, michael. Many thanks for your reply.
Fantastic.
Thanks Maura 🙂
Fantastic 😍😍
Great work Mike !!!🎨🎨🍻
Thanks Cedric!
@@chamberlainpaintings you're quite welcome
❤❤
great video, were you practicing a painting without horizon line or just no horizon in the background? I feel a painting that is without a "horizon line" line at eye level then to make a composition work you'll need the "point of view" line, kinda what things are you seeing the tops and backs of, and what are you not. Just my two cents :)
No horizon in the background 😊👍
Love your paintings and videos! In general, what brand of paint do you use? Oil or water based oil?
I use Utrecht, Gamblin, Winsor & Newton, Rembrandt 😊
Hello, Michael, what jeans do you wear in this video? I love the style and colour of them!
They're Levi's 501s. I think they're from the vintage collection. They were given to me 2 years ago by Levi's, whom my daughter was working with at the time. I've tried to find another pair but can't find them online or in the stores!
Does the Ocean change a lot for you from session to session? The elements seem similar but do colors and tones change a lot??
Yes, it's always different! Maybe I notice differences that others wouldn't. The tide, weather, swells, season, time of day all change the colors and values.

Hi Michael : )
Hi Mark!
@@chamberlainpaintings the transparency with the dimensional rock gives a feeling of movement, as blending, seen a similar affect you painted in a transparent chasm
Hi Michael, when Will you make a video changing the subject? I miss your figure paintings or still life . Seems like you always Paint the sea in your last videos
I paint what inspires me and I recommend you do the same 🙂
odds of our hero painting inland go up when the surf is flat or blown out 😂
The abstract shapes are really nice and love the warms playing against the cools, great job.
Of course, I didnt mean to be offensive , Is just that I LOVE your other paintings and its been a while since you've made a video of a still life painting or a composition with people outside the beach. You have to do what you like and enjoy. Thanks for your videos, you are an inspiration and a teacher for me as no other! @@chamberlainpaintings
