Bruv...you gonna look over Harold Melvin and the blue notes? You gonna pass up Morris day and the mother fucking time? I admit.they did the boy thing but the blue notes.. .cmon bruv
Very nice. Ralph was 17 at the time and his voice was maturing to its adult tone, you can hear it but he still sings the song perfectly. Glad to see Bobby still with them in '85 before he parted ways with them on the tour.
For the people complaining about cutting the song off, this was a t.v. special, the Anniversary of the Apollo theatre. There were so many acts on it, you only got a few minutes each so the *big* names could have more time. Remember, NE is still a new group here.
I remember during my adolescent years, people used to tell me that I looked just like Ralph. It was 1984. It was one of the best times in my life!! I cannot tell you about all the girls that were chasing me.Thanks for letting me borrow just a smidgen of your thunder, Mr. Tresvant. NE forever!!
If you looked like Ralph, I know you were being chased. He definitely has that thunder. Hell, 40 years later, the women are still in LOVE with Ralph. That's when you know you have it!!
This post was 15 years ago and new edition is still doin their thang. I believe they are just as hot now in 2023 as they were then. Let me say this, maybe this post will last another 20 years. They just came off of a very successful tour, there was a movie in 2017. Lets see whats being said on this post in 2043 if its still around. Put the year that you replied. Rite now its 2023. Hopefully i will still be around to read it. In 59 years old in 2023
New Edition was already smokin at this time. This song Cool it Now was off there second album. They released the candy girl album 2 years before this performance. Candy girl even passed michael jackson song "beat it" on the charts as the number 1 single at one point. Everybody in that room and all the kin folk watching this live on TV knew or at least heard of New Edition
Ralph jacked teeth and all was super cute. Ralph leading put NE on the map. Do not get it twisted Ralph had a unique voice but his stage presence without having to do any theatrics was fierce.
Yall stay talking about teeth. Even with his natural teeth, he was still attractive. U would be surprised as to how many artists, actors, and models have a totally difft grill
@@ertfgghhhh His teeth didn't even matter. He has beautiful eyes, Mahogany Chocolate color, pretty skin/bone structure and yummy looking as hell!! he sings and dances his butt off. Stage presence and confidence. You are right. Most of them have had dental work!!
Oh yea, the 70's were great too. When I hear 70's music, I feel grown and like I "know real music". It brings back memories of having cookouts and going to bootleg houses with my dad (hee hee). When I hear some of the 80's music, it makes me feel like first-loves, pop-locking, sunny days, colorful outfits, biker shorts, leggings, two-toned jeans, hammer pants, Bel/Biv/Devoe, dancing body-talk, whop, kid 'n play...you feel me? :)
juscallmezet Time has a way of creeping up on you, doesn't it? I'll be 39 this year, but I am so grateful to have been able to live through these times. I wouldn't trade that for anything!
Actually, the Apollo used to make audience stay seated for certain performances. They did it to keep camera from being blocked. Also, some artists had that rule in their contract, when they performed there, too. I only learned about it from a guy who spoke at my college about TV production/ contracts. He mentioned working at the Apollo for 20 years and all his experiences, there. Anyway, I do understand what you're saying though
This is my first time seeing this performance. But it reminds me of why I fell for New Edition in the first place. Ralph singing live, while him and the others are dancing their tails off and not missing a beat. And they're still singing and dancing 35+ years later. Bravo New Edition.
I miss this time! Everything was soo simple and great music. Everyone from all walks of life just came together and enjoyed New Edition, Bill Cosby and Boy George.
Hearing this song reminds me of my childhood in Winnipeg.I remember watching the "Cool It Now" video every time I got home from school.Mmm.with JB,my brother and friends.Greenway Elementary.
Man, this is bringing back some memories. I can remember being in the living room with the sibs, tearing it up to this song, or just chillin' with friends listening to this. Man, this takes me back:)
AFTER WATCHING THIS PERFORMANCE, MY SISTER STARTED CALLING NEW EDITION MINIATURE TEMPTATIONS. DAVID, EDDIE, PAUL, MELVIN AND OTIS ARE SMILING RIGHT NOW. THESE BROTHERS DID SOME SERIOUS STEPPIN'. SMOOTH AND SLICK MOVES FROM THE OLD SCHOOL.
I was so amazed to see this here. I loved it when I watched it on TV as a kid and that's when I fell in love with them, especially Ron because during that time, the "light-skinned brutha" was in (LOL). But I truly loved this performance especially starting at 1:20 seconds--all those moves were so tight. It reminds me of the 80's for real. There's no generation like the 80's, especially for those of us who grew up back then. Priceless.
ME TOO! During the set when each did their solo thing, Ralph jumped up on the speaker and came to where we were standing...and let the ladies come to him and he grabbed me and was hugging me while singing "Sensitivity".....ooh I can't take it....and I'm MAD that they aren't coming back to tour too! They came back as "The Summit" w/Ralph and Johnny and Bobby but it ain't the same....UGH!
This song opened me up to a new sound. First time i heard it i was little and was on the schulkill expressway in philly lookin at boathouse row. Memory burn. I love the moog bass line
I remember watching this. Look at them! Singing live and dancing HARD at the same time! Pay attention, modern pop artists with your lip synching to pre-recorded live vocals for way more money than what this group got!
these guys slid in there just intime to be considered classics! they were apart of an error when groups actually dressed up, danced insynce and bowed at he end of their performance! they can consider themselves classics like The Temps,The Jacksons and so on and so forth. i love these guys.
HILARIOUS!!!!! I aint gonna lie. I saw them the year before last and I am pissed that they didn't keep their promise to come back with all 6 members in 2009.
I love how the sound is jamming out of the right side speakers only of my tablet; just like back then...but on your stereo. The way they use to mix back then. Great damn time for REAL music and REAL talented musicians.
Jesus, this is the first time I seen this. O_O I was only 7 or 8 back then and Apollo used to come on late at night and it was past my bedtime, LOL. Anyways great song.
These dudes should be in the fucking hall of fame...they were the launching pad for all these groups and "boy bands"..they deserve respect....
Jackson 5 anyone

Ralph's voice was changing, but he still did well.
That choreography was ELECTRIFYING!!!
I know the choreography
And they STILL GOT IT!!!!
“Electrifying” made me think of the song “ You’re the One That I Want” 🤣❤️

Damn 12 years ago i feel old...😢❤
Parted ways they kick him out
He was actually 14 maybe 15
Bobby doesn’t just dance, he flies ❤❤❤
Cosby been old for like 50 years
Dev Kyser I mean what you expect. He was born in 1937. He was almost 50 here. If you was born that year you would be old too.

I laughed so fucking hard at this.

Bob was killin it!!
When you can dance like that AND sing, that is true talent. Even at their young age here, they were a sophisticated, tight and talented group!!!
i like that ralph is singin live
They were so in sync it was insane. Despite all the drama, their chemistry was undeniable.
New Edition Greatest group of all time!!! Ralph voice is changing, but he is still killing it. Dance Routine perfect!!!
That was when the Apollo theater was the success barometer for Black performers. If the public liked you, then you knew you were going to make it!
Bobby & Ronnie are limber as fck... cold with the choreography 💯💯🔥
slick choreography
Ricky was dumb hype when he first came out dancing, lol

Absolutely, He was a handsome kid and talented could sing and dance and had stage presence he was and is serious about his craft.
Agreed. Ralph was the correct choice to be lead singer for this type of music.
