Bishop Rance Allen (November 19, 1948 - October 31, 2020), was an American Bishop, Minister, and gospel musician, and the founder and leader of the famed Rance Allen Group. Known for his extremely wide vocal range and powerful singing voice, Allen became known as the main lead vocalist and the leader of the influential group.
He was the senior pastor of the New Bethel Church Of God In Christ in Toledo, Ohio, since its July 1985 establishment. In November 2011, Rance Allen was elevated to the office of Bishop in the Church of God in Christ, for the Michigan Northwestern Harvest Jurisdiction. Allen was born in 1948 in Monroe, Michigan to Thomas and Emma Pearl Allen. He had 11 siblings: six sisters and five brothers. Allen founded the Rance Allen Group in Detroit in 1969 joined by his brothers Thomas and Steve. Allen was married to First Lady Ellen Marie Allen (née Groves). The two were married on December 1, 1970. The couple had no children together.
Allen and his group had performed with many gospel musicians throughout the country, including Andrae Crouch, Marvin Winans, Bebe and Cece Winans, the Clark Sisters, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Tye Tribbett, Shirley Caesar, and Donnie McClurkin. He also performed for President Barack Obama at a White House Celebration of Gospel Music and was nominated for five Grammy Awards.
Allen died on October 31, 2020 from complications due to a recent medical procedure.

God please give his wife strength to carry on with peace in her ❤️. She was loved so much by Bishop Allen and she loved him as much as he did her... The day that I learned of the passing of Doctor Rance Allen, I didn't shed a tear for some reason and that's not anything like me because I am the type that will cry at a movie of birth of a baby or something like that. What I recall doing was joining others by posting my condolences to the family then pictured Dr. Allen doing that move where he bends down slightly and grabs his pants leg while singing or preaching, lol. The way he sang the voice octaves and his praise before God always blessed me... the ways I will remember him!
Kinda sound a bit like me... I to cry over every little thing movie etc,etc but when a person has been good to you and you been good to them I usually don't have tears I'm usually at peace
I drove to Toledo from Chicago on the 13th to pay my respects to this TRUE man of God. His music inspired so many. RIP Bishop. I KNOW you made it to heaven!

It hurts so bad. I didn't know about Bishop Rance Allen until my mom found out he was performing on BET celebration of gospel back n 2007 and went CRAZY over him. Seeing him perform for the first time n my life I fell n love with him also. And to loose my mom n March and Rance n October..it hurts. Rest Heavenly to them both. They can sing n heaven together now🙏

I appreciate the family so much for allowing us to witness this. It's a moment where you want privacy and quiet to let what's happening sink in. A lot of the "rules" go out of the window when you're dealing with someone who blessed so many. You still didn't have to let us in, but you did. Thank you! There was a period early Sunday mornings where Martha Jean the Queen played my two favorite songs of that time, back to back. "I'm gonna make it after all" of course by Bishop Allen, and then "Joyous Flame" by Tom and Googy Copalla. I was ready to get up and worship with the saints then! I was 13 years old then and I'm 56 today praise God! In the midst of some tough things going on, God used Rance Allen to help them be more bearable. I know Rance wasn't perfect, who is? But he surely wielded a lot of spiritual power, that was the difference maker in a lot of lives, especially mine! I know that the grace of God made up for where ever he fell short and that he's enjoying Jehovah right now. I love all of you sight unseen and pray the Lord's continued blessings upon you all through the coming days....
