The reason batsman try to leave the ball is because they couldn't read the balll properly. For example they think that bowl is gonna go away from them, in that case they try to leave the bowl so they don't edge it to wicket keeper and avoid getting out... But the bowl came inside... Resulting in them getting bowled or LBW.

A yorker is a delivery aimed at batsman's toe. In a perfect yorker the batsman tries to save his toe and gets out in the process. It is a lethal weapon of any quality fast bowler but it is not easy to bowl a yorker delivery because there is a chance that while trying a yorker the bowler will bowl a full length delivery and batsman will hit the ball to six. Waqar Younous was called "the toe crusher". All time great in criket's history.

Shoaib Akhtar is the world's fastest bowler and still holds the record for delivering the world fastest bowl at 161.3 km/hour which is over 100 miles per hour. Pakistan bowlers introduced the art of reverse swing to the world cricket which is more lethal than swing bowling. They had the ability to swing the bowl at both sides when the bowl is new and able to perform reverse swing when the bowl gets old. Pakistani cricket team has won 70% of their matches due to their bowling performance and holds lots of records in the bowling department.

On top of what others explained, what confuses some of the top batsmen is a bowler with ability to swing (trajectory change in the air) and seam (trajectory change after the ball hits the ground) both in (towards the batsman) and out (away from the batsman). The first two bowlers in the video Wasim and Waqar are legendary due to this ability. Only few in the world have such ability. Keep in mind the surface and weather conditions also play a role in batsmen or bowler's favour. Sadly, the modern cricket favours batsmen more due to commercial interests as general spectators favour watching big shots from the batsmen over quality bowling.

There is long list In swing, Out swing, reverse swing, contra swing, late swing, banana swing, dipper or down swing, float swing [not many hear of this but swing bowlers always try to get it happed], voweler [Chris cairns do this type of deliveries and Sachin Tendulkar has done it some time]

Pace means speed and Swing means changing direction in air. If the ball pitches and then changes direction then it is called the ball has seamed.
Pace + Swing is a lethal combination because the ball coming at 145+ km/hr with deviation in the air gives less than a second to adjust which results in false strokes thereby yielding the batsman's wicket.

"Pace" means throwing the ball at speeds up to a hundred miles an hour (160 kph). A "swing" is like a curve ball, but instead of dipping low, a swing ball usually curves left or right, allowing it to go around the bat and hit the wickets (aka stumps).

Swing in cricket, is used for both, the batters and the bowlers. In this particular scenario, it is referred for the bowlers. When the bowler swings the ball, it means that it either comes in after pitching or go away from the batter. It is always difficult to play those deliveries that are not only coming at you at 100 miles per hour but also moving after pitching.

Bowling and pitching differ at an essential level as cricket bowlers r not allowed to bend their elbows.
The players wearing white indicates test cricket. 2 innings per side and every player gets to bat twice if the game is completed within 5 days.
Red ball is used for test cricket which swings, spins and seams(movement when ball touches ground) more compared to white ball used for t20 and odi formats of the game.
The bounce of the ball varies too depending on the pitch, more grass on the pitch ensures more bounce generally but it may depend on other factors too. Australia has pitches which aid the bouncing of ball more compared to other places.
The pitch (rectangular area where ball can be pitched/bounced) affects the play by deciding the spin, seam and swing of the ball and other factors like climate, humidity also affect the ball movement as a whole.
Remember 50 runs by a player in very difficult playing conditions when the conditions aid bowlers may be equivalent to 200 runs by the same player in easy conditions.
As far as I know, cricket is the only sport that is affected by external conditions to such a degree that it can change the match results by a huge margin compared to what was expected.
The cricket bat has a spot where if the ball is hit, them the ball goes in the direction intended by the batter and the more it hits away from this spot, the more it will deviate from intended direction.
In test cricket, the ball swings more when it is new and the batsmen tend to make mistakes and hit the ball by edging it by the bat and the ball goes behind the batsmen with some deviation which is caught by the keeper or slip fielders (fielder standing besides keeper for the sake of catching edged balls) . To avoid giving away wickets to bowlers who r very dangerous when the ball is swinging and seaming, the batsmen tend to leave the ball which may be caught behind by if edged.

The trick is to make the ball move laterally and late so that the batsmen don't pick up the movement in or out early and adjust.
Also fast bowlers move the ball differently, using the seam of the ball off the bounce, in the air by keeping the seam straight at an angle and through the difference in both sides of the ball by maintaining the ball which also gets help from atmosphere, for eg ball swings more, almost like a banana in English conditions and early in the morning. Then there are cutters where sideways movement is found by giving lateral rotation to the ball on seam at the point of release.

Swing is not a motion imparted to the ball but it is the aerodynamic influence on the ball. To bowl swing you must release the ball with the seam perfectly still. Spin bowling is imparting a motion to the ball.

The batsman is facing a ferocious delivery which can swing IN, swing OUT, pitch on his feet (Yorker) & have to get out of the way to avoid LBW, deceptive slower delivery, short delivery (bouncer) where the bowler is attempting to hit the batsman’s head, all at approx 90mph.
So the batsman has around half a second to decide what’s coming and how to play it ! 😵‍💫

This is the game of speed and velocity. (Pace & Swing)
The bowlers keep rubbing the one half of the ball to keep it shine and the other half rough. After some time, when the ball ready they hold it with specific technique and through it with full speed. Now what happens...... Due to the speed the air passes more quickly from the shiny side than rough one. And that made ball swing in the air. But for doing this, one has to keep the ball rotating only around its exes.
Hope you got the main idea. Now it is up to bowler , which direction he wants to turn the ball.

great reaction guys, so pace is just pace, most of these bowlers bowl 90mph and couple of them 100mph, cricket ball cannot be bowled faster than that. swing is when the bowl moves in the air. there is so much the cricket ball can do, like its insane, so all depends on how you hold the ball, your action and stuff, but the ball can move in the air inwards(inswing) or outwards(outswing), also after it moves in the air, after it picthes the ball can move again, we call it nipping of that pitch, in or out, so you can only imagine how crazy and how technical you have to be as a batsman facing 90mph plus, when the ball can swing away from you in the air and then after it pitches it can come back to you. thats what makes this sport so hard, mentally and physically. playing for 5 days can be very draining, hence why cricketers these days are insanely fit. people like dale steyn from south africa used to run 10km before the 3rd day of a test match. just shows what it takes to dominate cricket

The cricket ball has a seam when it's made, two sides of leather ball are stitched together, that seam and along with the shine of the ball at one side and the roughness at other can cause a lot of swing and obviously the bowler has to talented to release that ball at higher speeds regularly, it's difficult than throwing, throwing is illegal in cricket, in cricket you have to get a legal action, roll your shoulder at a certain angle, one thing I can say for a normal person to deliver a ball to a batsman is hard but these are professionals that not just release balls but swing them in the air, seam of the pitch and maintain a high speed for longer times. That's why you would appreciate these people, only a few in the history were as good as pakistani bowlers just as Indian are famous for there batting, for the very same reason that both these countries have produced many legends in those fields.

Pace and swing is a lethal combination, the most unplayable deliveries are that swing in the air or off the pitch late. meaning they appear to be going down a certain line but as they get close to the batter they swing in the air or seam off the ground and change directions, by then the batter has already committed to playing down a certain line and has no time to adjust to the change in direction, hence they are bowled or helplessly caught behind the stumps or caught LBW, So a fast bowler who bowls with good pace and can swing the ball 'LATE' is almost unplayable at times.

A cricket ball is made of two hemispheres of leather joined by a seam. to swing a cricket ball, you hold the index finger on one side and the middle finger on the other side of the seam. You want to bowl the ball so the seam sits vertically in relation to the ground. If you bowl the ball with the seam pointing slightly to the left, it should swing "out" toward the slip fielders. If you bowl the ball pointing right, it should swing "in" the other way. After a few overs, the bowlers will have shined one side of the ball, and the ball will tend to swing towards the shiny side. Something weird happens when the ball gets older. It might start swinging "reverse". That is, away from the shiny side. In test match cricket, the fielding captain has the option to replace the old ball with a new one after 80 overs.

    There's two type of swing
The seam where they hold on to seam and then swing with the seam direction
Then comes the reverse swing that is speciality of pak bowlers, in this you swing on the shining side of the ball. You keep one side rough and shine the other one and with the right bowling action you can swing towards shining side

The game of cricket was known for the rivalry between England & Australia but in 90s was dominated by Pakistan pace & swing bowlers like Wasim, Waqar, Zahid & in early 20s by Shoaib Akhtar, Aamir, Asif, Sami, Abbas. We still have got some fine bowlers like Shaheen, Naseem, Hasan, Haris. All these fast bowlers were inspired by the greats like Imran Khan & Sarfaraz Nawaz.
Pakistan has produced some great batters too like Zaheer, Javed, Inzimam, Saeed, Saleem, Younus, Yousuf, Babar.
The subcontinent is full of talented cricketers that's why the three prominent regional countries #Pakistan, #India, #SriLanka have also won the crown of the game the World Cup on 4 occasions.

Bowlers who swing the ball a metre, bowlers who bowled 160 km/he, bowlers who would spin the bowl other way, bowlers who would look normal but bowl the toughest yorkers you will ever face! Although it has reduced a little in last few years.
