“Swatch Dolls” is a brilliant idea. I agree that painting dozens of tiny squares of pigmented water is a crashing bore . . . but The Dolls are charming and these are particularly OTT cute! I see a wonderful future stamp set of a variety of these dolls for those of us who are drawing challenged.
James hon I almost tossed my phone when I saw how expensive they were! 😂😂
I've not finished the entire video but I thought I'd share a quote with you from the Late Terry Pratchett :
“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.” - Men at Arms: The Play by Terry Pratchett
lol it’s soooo true! I love Pratchett. 💛 I bought an “affordable” can opener a couple of years ago that has already started to fail. So I went to the antique store and bought a vintage one from the 1950s for $15, and it still works better than the new one did when I first bought it. 😝 It’s smooth and sharp and solid and glides through the tin like nothing. I’m not sure where you could buy such a good can opener these days, but it is so much better than the other one you’d think it’d be worth $150, not $15. 😝
Hello friend!!! We can’t allow you to change for what someone else wants. We come here to watch you, not what someone else wants to watch. Please be you!!!! We like it when you are 🥰🥰🥰 thank you for the swatch dolls. They made my heart smile!!!!
I’ve been enjoying your swatch dolls videos, and then this one started, so I thought I would watch it. I just came across your channel a couple of hours ago. I think I could draw your swatch dolls…..and they’re just so cute and whimsical! Your comment about the cars having loud exhausts, and it made me think of a statement my late husband would say, and eventually had made into a vinyl to put on our back window of an hhr panel…A wing and a fart pipe doesn’t make a hot Rod……everybody loved it and started saying it to the cars they would be near. I hope you’ve been enjoying these water colors.
You are so talented, paints look great but you really know how to use them, I give credit to your talent.
Hi James and honey's.....I haven't been in touch for a while. Sorry. However, I have been watching. So because it's nearly that time of year once again, I thought I'd mention my "Witches Challenge Journal" of 2016-17-18-19-20. Yes, that one. I accidentally made the journal pretty large, so, instead of limiting myself to just one or two years, and leaving tons of blank pages, I've kept it going, adding this and that over the years. I love it, and look forward to playing in it every year. I may even add pages once I fill it up. Thanks James, for giving me one of my favorite exercises. What a cute family you have. xx
I like doing a 'price per use' when trying to rationalize new things!!
You deserve them James. They’re noice, unusual
So proud you wd your chair
Ill have those for Christmas
Your painting is stunning i could feel your joy using them
I really like your swatch dolls, I need to remember to do something like that when I get new watercolors. I tend to do the square boxes. Thanks for sharing, James.
Love when you do swatch dolls. These look like Campbell’s soup kids! Always an interesting video! Thanks!
I’m in love with your swatch dolls xx
I love how the bright and earth tones work together when I wouldn't have expected them to. I came across my watch dolls when having a clear out (again!!!) and remembered how much I enjoyed doing them. Will definitely be doing more. I could hear your brain saying "Noooooo James" as your mouth let out the cost of the paints 😄😄😄 I bought some handmade watercolours and I absolutely adore the tones which are muted but bright at the same time!! Thank you for making me laugh. Xx
I just love your videos and your little giggles and guilt trips (totally relate to that) so inspiring thanks
OMG, those swatch dolls are adorable! I just ordered a set tonight of G & B, very excited to work with them! Great playful, fun review, thx!
OMG I discovered you tonight and I love your videos. Your swatch dolls are so cute I have to try making them. Ok, back to the video.
I have always loved the swatchdolls and if you're ever looking for ideas for youtube video's; I would LOVE to see more tutorials like that!
Just the simple ideas to play with are fantastic to watch and follow along with.
so cute the swatch dolls
I love your swatch dolls. Threy’re so fun. When I get a new paint set maybe I’ll do a swatch tree. I think I could manage to draw a tree.
Soooo adorable 😍
I just found your channel. My brain fell on the floor! Your dolls are soooooooo amazing! I love your mixed media work. I'm going to watch your older videos and hopefully get braver with my art. Thank you for sharing your colorful unique beauty's.
I was rearranging a bunch of files on my hard drive the other day and came across your original swatch dolls from Play Test Patreon! So beautiful, I printed some out immediately, it's so nice to see more of them here! The watercolours look great, I love that they included a swatch card to pop into the tin, but you're right, it's a good idea to play around with them to see how they perform the way you're intending to use them.
I love your swatch dolls😍 also love the paint but unfortunately I can’t see myself getting any so I’ll enjoy watching you play with them x
Such pretty colors!!!
Thank you for showing your new paints. I love your swatch dolls, they are so cute. You are a talented artist. I know the paints are expensive, but you saved up for them. And if it's worth it to you, then that is all that matters.
Love theses little swatch dolls! Grabbed a bunch of new washi from the shop update, and decided to grab a few of these little shell paints to try while they were available. A great day for new supplies, but not my bank account!
I loved this video and your ideas. The swatch dolls were great! I just bought a set of G & B paints and was looking for inspiration. Thank you!

Omg these Dolly’s are sooooo beautiful& colors but it’s your art that’s more beautiful always blow me away w your technique
Love little dolls - what a great way to test the colors! Very beautiful colors
These are so pretty! I love the idea of using little shells as pans, such a cute and creative idea! I literally spent all of today making square swatch cards for my watercolour sets, making them so that each card could fit inside the corresponding case, I haven't used them in forever but I really want to now, might make some swatchdolls based on my original characters tomorrow!
I Love your swatch dolls, they are genius! They are so cute and can be drawn in so many ways! Thanks for sharing your art!

Love love love. What paper are you using?
L'Aquarelle Canson Héritage Hot Press Watercolor Paper Pad, 9"x12" (from my September 2020 ArtSnacks box)
Replaying watching you draw
I love your swatch dolls. So cute ! But i m so sad there is no shipping for france on your etsy boutique 😭😭😭😭
I am still on the DS watercolor price being a treat. However with that said since entering the mind of Tangie my thoughts of watercolor have shifted. I always had this idea of having a palette that worked well together for mixing , like the basics of watercolor. Now I have given myself permission not to listen to the gate keepers of watercolor. I am very happy purchasing odd colors or watercolor with glitter.

Where do you live? We live in Joplin, Mo. and our mailmen are absolutely wonderful and I get my Amazon things on time . I am sorry you are having trouble.
Amazing! What kind/size of brushes are you using?
Your sound is too low.
