- California has been hit hard with a HISTORIC storm system. Our Southern and Eastern Mountain ski resorts both received 6 feet of snow in about a couple of days. Unfortunately, all roads that led to these mountains were closed and blocked off! During this storm, snow fell as low as 1,500 foot (457 meter) elevation! In this video, we visit an area that sits at 3,000 feet (914 meter).

See...this is why I'm highly considering a Ridgeline for my next truck
Do it man. I just picked up a 2022 Ridgeline couple months ago and I love it. So far I used mine more as a "truck" (hauling lumber, towing small camper) than any of my buddies that own Chevys and Ford's. Highly recommend test driving one!
The AWD system is incredibly good. Went through 10 inches very well here in the Midwest.
You won't regret it, I've owned one for 13 years, pulled trailers all over United States, it's actually good off road, I installed after-market skid plates, went anywhere the Jeeps went, but a lot more comfortable, passed a lot of broken-down Jeep junk.
Love my 22’. I lease my Hondas so I only keep them a few years so I thought I’d give it a shot. It’s a RTLE-HPD. I’d get another one. It’s been great so far.
I would totally get one if I were you if you’re already considering it. I bought a 2020 brand new back in 2020. Still have it and love it a lot. It’s comfy as heck, smooth drive for daily driving, tons of power, lots of cool features, I have never gotten stuck with it so far. Only downside is if you’re going to use it for off-road use, in its stock form it’s only good for easy and moderate (medium) difficulty trails as it’s ground clearance isn’t all that great. If you get a 2.5” lift kit and some 30.5” tires for it then you’re pretty much set for a great time on the trail with no issues. Just be aware that your oil pan does hang slightly low and is easily prone to being punctured by rocks and stuff if you’re not careful. Other then that everything else on the truck is just fantastic. 8 speaker system with the subwoofer is excellent, interior is spacious, bed speakers built in is great for bbq’s/tail gating parties/camping, and that trunk space is godsend 👌🏻.
Yay Honda. Love seeing the Ridgeline because I have a 2022 Black Edition. Thanks Jon!!
People don’t give honda the credibility and the capability of the Honda ridgeline. I have a 2021. I love it I would not be driving a different truck. 🙌🙌🙌 go Honda bad ass truck
It sure is a fun ride and smooth ride! 4 years in and I really appreciate my Honda!
I love the way that Honda Ridgeline looks.
"They're seeing the Honda's right now and they're like 'What?!?!' " so effing funny.
That I-VTM4 is super underrated! Damn system rocks!
NARTPRO is my Hero!!! he is awesome!! Best video I've seen you do John. Absolutely gorgeous scenery!!! I lived in Sacramento for a year and spent a lot of time in Tahoe... It makes me miss the mountains sooo bad!! If I would have had friends like you to hang with I would have never left! At the time I had a 1984 longbed Toyota 22RE 4x4 with 5 speed bench seat, no ac. lifted 6' with GroundHawgs 33x12.50. no power steering.
That Ridgeline rocks! 😎👍 So does your Passport, Jon!
Hey Jon! Happy Cali-Snow!! Hope it helps the water supply. That 2020 Ridgeline your buddy drives is sweet! Another mighty 3.5V6/9 Speed! Woo Hoo!!
Thanks Ram! Our California water supply is above its historic average! The main issue is storing it. Yes, love the ZF9. The new 10 speed should be even better!
The Ridgeline on theridgeline!!
Good driving to all of but, YAY for the ridgeline 🤩 If aftermarket support was better here in Canada, it would have been my choice
Bruh hahahaha this was amazing seeing that ridge and you go up like nothing and his timing on saying why the yotas were struggling was GODLY !!! 😂😂😂 💪 Honda
Just bought Blizzaks for my 2021 Ridgeline. Might head to the mountains this month.
Ridgeline FTW
Great trail! Cool to see Honda and Subaru out there having a blast!
What a crazy adventure Jon! Well done and looks like some real nail biting sections!! 💪
Hey Manny 👋, it wasn't too too bad. The Toyo Open Country AT3s gave me alot of confidence, they performed really decently! Did you get a chance to do the Mojave road? how was it?
NART? Looks pretty real to me lol. Test driving a RL over the weekend.
Love my 2020 Black edition, with my studded Toyo's she's a beast on the snow and ice.
I had a Ridgeline once i loved that sucker.
The Dodge pickup didn't have trouble getting up because he had his tow mirrors deployed. Tow mirrors flipped out add traction, HP, and TQ. Gonna be my next mod.
Have a ridgeline 2021 hpd and absolutely love it. Actually almost every one that owns a ridgeline loves it 😊. I will never buy a car again unless it’s a convertible. I tried a few trucks, but the Ridgeline is far advanced. Can’t wait for the 2024 ridgeline trail sport
Hey there brother! First time subscriber and first time commenting! Great video! 👍 I really enjoyed watching your content from San Antonio Texas 😊 Can’t wait to see your next video this is Big Boy Frank from Texas peace out ✌️ and safe travels!
Thanks @Bigboy Frank ! 😊
Great views and driving
Southwest Germany is waving a hand 💯🙋♂
Danke Deutschland!!! Much love ❤️ from the United States 🇺🇸!
My 2007 Ridgeline was the only truck to make it up the hill out of my neighborhood after the 2009 DC area “Snowmageddon.” The 4WD system was legit.
Looks like a fun trip!
It sure was!!!! Hopefully we can get on a trip together too!
You got me on the edges of my seat watching this!!! Felt like I was there driving this with you and the terror of slipping and falling off one of those cliffs!! Lol. Awesome wheeling!! 👌
NARTPRO plate is bomb bro
It’s hilarious 🤣 Not A Real Truck PRO!
I love my Ridgeline, and I can haul the same amount of air as these American full size trucks!
Nice Video ! Love it !
Thank you 🙏
Cool video Jon. Thank you
Thank you 🙏 @Abbadon54
Your passports now climbing these small obstacles, much better than a few years back! Your newer lift and improved ground clearance sure make the passport go over no problem. 💯
Awesome video. I have a Honda Ridgeline RTL-E with Toyo open country tires and the snow doesn't slow me one bit in Chicago's weather.
Awesome video and driving!
As always, thanks Robbie!!!
what really surprise me a front mount winch fitted into the Porsche.
I have a 2023 Ridgeline….. It is a goat on snow and ice…..
The only problem is it needs more ground clearance, otherwise what a great Vehicle.
I got a 2023. I got in July so I haven't had a chance to do anything in the snow. I was pretty impressed with what it would climb when I was playing around in the desert. One hill was pretty damn steep and the surface was hard-pan with about 2 inches of sand on it. I was surprised to get up it. I'm curious to see how it does in the snow. So far it's been a great vehicle. It's been fun to take it places in Utah desert locations where I couldn't take my RAV4 (mainly getting up to hiking trailheads). I'm not out trying to do any real hardcore off-roading but I've been satisfied so far with what it will do.
There are some nice 2.5" lift kits out there. Get you a bit more clearance.
There’s 3.5” as well. I’d recommend that.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring
Oh nice..
I've got a first gen Pilot, and live in Canada - even that thing, with the original VTS-4 is a beast in the snow, I actually look forward to driving it through a fresh deep snowfall - never been stuck, except that time the snow was so deep I couldn't see the road and drove into the ditch. The right tires help of course ...
I love my ‘23 Touring. The anti Ridge folks can go away lol
I’ve got a 2013 Ridgeline on AT tires. It’s taken me everywhere I needed to get to. Has less ground clearance than I want, but picking the right line still gets me there.
I drove 1973 2wd Datsun pick up 1.6 litre motor. 93 horsepower in the 1970s built homemade lift kit. Dual shocks 31 10.5 15 in tires. Passed many 4x4 owners due to driving abilities. 50 yrs later 3 land cruisers ,couple 4x4 Toyota pickups , now 2005 land Rover lr3 hse HD. 235k still going strong. 6.1ft tall and can sleep with my 2 dogs in the back
Thanks for the video. It somehow thought us how to drive with that snow.
@JonDZ Adventuring
This shared Honda run up the "back roads" of the San Berdo Mntns was the most enjoyable viewing for me.
If possible, please respond to my posed question to you on your 3+ year old Pismo Beach/sand video. TY
Note to self: See 16:10
Looks like good times!
Torque Vectoring
All great vehicles, but it's totally epic seeing that Porsche.
Honda Power!
The most appealing part is the Honda safety sense, LKAS and adaptive cruise all come standard, you gotta pay like top tier trims just for any convenience anywhere else
Ive got a 2019 with a 2 inch lift and 32 inch firestone destination ats and it does great in snow, mud and sand.
Wow, quite the crowd out there. Everyone wanted in on the fun
I drove through Victorville on the 25th coming back from Utah and it was insane ! Snow everywhere even on the homes. 15 was completely stopped so Waze took me through side roads.
snowpocSOCALypse
It's probably just bad snow tire on the yota. Tacomas are pretty capable offroaders but I'd much rather have a ridgeline.
"Toyota Bros stuck at the bottom" LMFAO!
Manny speaks bluntly for sure 🤣. He does it to every car brand, even Honda!
8:41 was a missed opportunity to call it a RIDGELINE, come on Jon! Haha.
Haha! True! Hey man, I’ll be heading out to Overland Expo PNW, we should meet up!
Good times all the time bro…here I couldn’t deliver the mail for 4 days cuz of the snow and ice and it all had to go out today lol
Oh dang!!!! 😮 be safe Brother!
When it’s snow and ice on a steep hill, other than the 4lo, it’s mostly about tires
Wasn’t the case here. Not at 3500 ft. Elevation here and 35F. The higher elevations are a different story.
My 09 Forester XT should be done by this weekend, fresh built motor with all the fixins. Can't wait to get back in the mountains.
Nice!!!!

Snow chains!
That fj said “I cant get no tractionnnnnn, I AM FORRRRRR REALLLLLLLL”
Now I kind of understand why people said big mud terrains will let you “float” on top of snow. I also have a better understanding of when people say chains will “dig”. Those people probably think more throttle is the answer 🤣. Without chains, @K20nartPro was able to get turned around by maximizing traction by letting off the gas.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you have to read all the comments on my “why don’t more overlanders use snow chains” video 🤣
@@JonDZ_Adventuring also make sure youre at -10 psi on your tires or else youre doing it wrong
@@JonDZ_Adventuringcontinuing to gun that throttle with 0 traction and the tires spinning hard just turns that snow melting under the tires from heat and friction to ice 🧊
Besides making divets and burning tread off uselessly
Jealous watching you guys but glad you guts had fun. 😁 did you take your wild peaks off? Do you think they wouldn't done very well in the snow? Just wondering. Great video again
I do some gentle offroading in my Ridge. But that FJ hitting the limiter is not something I want to do! LOL
Last week I drove off of a south LA levee and the truck started sliding through the grass, I wasn't sure if I was still going to have the front spoiler by the time we got to the bottom. LMAO. It was there and it was fun.
Nice, and great coaching!
Thank you Gearlist! I won’t claim to be an expert, but I’ll share what I know.
Where do you all get parts for the ridgeline? Looking to mod mine... and are you all part of a club? Would like to join 😅
That Ridgeline is owned by one of the top (if not thee top) Honda Tuner in the USA. He used his Ridgeline to haul engines, transmissions and other car parts back to his shop. He then started dabbling into making his Ridgeline more off-road capable. It’s built out even more now with 13.5” of center line clearance and 18” of rocker clearance, BUT in this video it has about 12” of centerline and 16.5” of rocker clearance. If you want to go BIG, contact @k20nartpro on instagram.
If you want a simpler yet BIG lift. Check out the Traxda 3.5” lift kit with axle relocation kit that will allow you to run taller tires.
I have this old build guide on my website: crossoverlanding.com/honda-overland-build
Just note that it’s a bit dated.
Nartpro almost got the J turn! Lol
🤣🤣🤣
Great video, but good heavens it is overpopulated there! I can't imagine being hemmed in by all of those vehicles.
Yeah, with our major mountains shut down (Most of it til today is shut down) lots of people were trying to go anywhere to play in the snow. It was definitely frustrating, and we wondered why the vehicles that were having trouble didn't just pull over to let us through. The large group at the end with all the Jeep Cherokee XJs was GIGANTIC, but very very organized. They had 30+ vehicles and synchronously pulled over to let us through. We didn't have to wait much at all.
Yeah, being on that trail would give me anxiety. I'd be afraid of a vehicle in front of me and behind me getting stuck or broken, and being stuck there.
hilarious watching these californians try and navigate through a little snow
I had a 2019 Ridgeline LTE loved it. Then I got a 2018 ZR2 and started selling the panties girls left in my truck. :D😆
I enjoyed this video. Glad the Ridgeline did not disappoint.
Thanks!!! :D
Sweet snow wheeling session! Would love your impressions of Toyos versus Wildpeaks. Did you go P versus LT again? I’m due for tires soon and may try the new Toyo RT Trails (LT load E) on the GX but I’m worried they may have less snow traction than the WPAT3.
I’ve already seen the Toyos vastly outperform the Wildpeak AT3W on rock. I have 3 years of footage with the Wildpeaks to show case any shortcomings. So far this is my only trail where I ran the Toyos and I thought they did great. I can’t say for sure if they’re better, but my hunch is that they are.
RT’s seem to not perform very well in anything other than rock crawling. Best to just swap to OC at3
24:44 Bad Ass! That’s snow wheeling ! Bang rev limiter
Haha!!! I knew you would enjoy that!
I assume it was the FJ that you offered help? I'd laugh if he snapped a CV while bouncing off the rev limiter like a tool, haha. I would have taken the strap. Also, kudos to the guys that knew their abilities and opted not to go up the road. No shame in calling it. Obviously if one's not accustomed to driving in the snow, this could be quite difficult. And honestly, being in a line of that many vehicles on a road like that would give me anxiety, I've seen too many snow recovery vids where people got stuck because the weather changed and the snow conditions got worse.
Wwwwoooowww guys ive seen some off the beaten path driving on roads but wwwoooww thats alot of snow and ice paths!!! LOL..LOL..I live in suuny south Florida,ft.lauderdale area, spring break area!!😂😂😎😎🫡🫡
Damn it was packed up there huh? You’re gnna have all the sensitive Yota bro’s getting butt hurt 😂
Hi Jon, I'm currently looking at a 21 Ridgeline Sport AWD and a 16 4Runner Off-road with a locker and ATRAC as a second 4WD/AWD vehicle. My main is an 07 FJ. Cost diff between the Ridge and the 4Runner is about $6g less in the Ridgeline's favor. I live in Colorado where we get all sorts of winter weather -- impressed with your friend's demo of his Ridgeline and your Passport in the snow. Do you feel like you ever need something like the 4Runner when you're running trails or not so much? I'm not looking to abuse the vehicles, but I'm definitely looking at having capability in adverse conditions. My FJ is great, but looking at increased bed space on either vehicle as additional functionality.
I live up in Lake Arrowhead. 6+ ft in all. My road didn't get plowed for over a week. It was knarly.
Yeah people dissed the Cherokee Trailhawk just like they dissed the Ridgeline.
What they fail to realize is that if you don't need 20+ inches of flex, independent suspension actually provides BETTER traction In medium to medium high difficulty scenarios. It's only in really extreme scenarios that you need 20 plus inches of suspension travel,40 inch tires , etc.
I would say that there's an awful lot of overbuilt vehicles on the trails.
😂 no driver mod did this trail in my lifted CRV .. tires play a HUGE part in snow wheeling .. and y definitely do NOT want to floor it going up hill if your sliding already
Looks like the traffic jam up on Holcomb a few years back.
You all so brave testing your vehicle a out on this bad weather. So damn dangerous.
Thanks! This was a very easy day compared to other snow days this year: czcams.com/video/9aP8T9ut3RE/video.html
Many of those struggling rigs appear to be running MT tires which are significantly worse in snow than 3PMS AT tires like the Open County AT3, Wildpeak AT3W, KO2s, etc. MTs are generally less capable in snow than even highway all season tires.
I was worried about that too, but my Nexen MT's have done really well in the snow to the point where i don't worry about it anymore.
@@gill6460 / Ryan yeah, not all M/T’s are made the same. The ones made out of softer rubber, like the ones on the silver Jeep Wrangler will work really good in the snow seen in this video. The blocks actually help dig in deeper snow too. Are you Nexens like that?
Then I’ve seen the stiff M/Ts that turn into hockey pucks in freezing temperatures.
Nah, slow the video down at the trucks at the bottom they have wildpeak AT’s
Great video, please provide the lift kit info and tire/wheel info for the Ridgeline.
It’s 1.5 sub drop,
23 pilot TS struts
Eibach lift springs
3/4 inch top hat spacers front and rear
A lot of this lift is currently custom
265/70/18 open country at3 on 18x9.5 inch titan 7 wheel
Chains...no problems. 😁
Proof that I don’t always use them. Only for the deep stuff! 😃
I’m actually worried about breaking them on the sand and rocks before the thin layer of snow.
Yet another great video Jon! Question.. 'How' did NartPro end up with 4.2 inches of lift on a Ridge? Did he use the 3.5" and then stack more spacers? Also.. does he have the axle relocation kit installed, or did he cut wheel wells to fit 33's? Thanks!
It’s 1.5 sub drop,
23 pilot TS struts
Eibach lift springs
3/4 inch top hat spacers front and rear
A lot of this lift is currently custom and not available to purchase yet. I might offer the ts strut as a upgrade package to 3.5 lifts
@@k20z3allmotorFTW Thank you for the explanation!
Thanks James! Thanks for answering @k20z3allmotorFTW B
What tires and size are the ridgelines running?
The crosstreks were Xtrek18 and Theicetrek, xtrek18 had an eventful day of being pulled out with the issue of his tires not being as good!
Haha! Yep! At the end of the video I have Raphael’s IG handle on screen.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring i did see that! But not when i commented lol, for some reason i felt as if i was there real time like you could hear me 🤙🏼

Maybe the actuator for 4L is not working on that Tacoma. If it's not used regularly It happens sometimes. Also those tyres looks like are not exactly snow rated...hmm?
That’s a good point about that actuator! I believe the owner’s manual says to engage it Atleast once a month right? I couldn’t see the tires well, so I don’t know what type of tread they were (even seeing it with my own eyes), but it did look like they were 35 inches. If there was no regear upgrade combined with no 4LO, that could have caused the problem.
Probably wasn’t aired down either.
Its all about the tires
Hey Jon, I noticed at 7:00 you mention you've had some issues with the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. I was planning on getting some of those for my rig, I deal with snow a fair amount and want my tire to be capable in those conditions, would you say the Toyos are the better way to go? Most of my research showed the Wildpeaks as pretty good on snow. Thanks!
Toyos have quite a bit of advantages, lighter weight to size ratio, softer compound, quieter on road, and better sand and rock grip performance. Wildpeaks will probably go a bit further mileage wise and possibly be a tad bit more robust sidewall
@@k20z3allmotorFTW Thanks for the info!
I'm here to see how many Toyota Trash talk numbers 😂 Its all about the tires and driver's skill. You can't go wrong with Toyota.
Haha! Not many, that’s not what this channel is about. Vehicle malfunction can also be the culprit. If the Toyota 4WD actuator motor isn’t properly maintained, it can go bad. It’s a common failure on the 3rd gen Tacos.
Does anyone know if there's timing chain conversion kits for the ridgeline motor? Or if its even possible? Thanks.
No idea, but timing chains break too, and more catastrophically. I have a video about doing my 100K service at 119k miles. The belt still looked brand new.
4 low doesn’t help with traction only torque/slow speed control. It can actually hurt on snow when you are more reliant on wheel speed to accelerate mass away (equal opposite reaction) and less reliant on static grip. Same for the sand. 4Lo also shortens gears significantly which makes it harder to keep uninterrupted torque/wheel spin.
Toyota Tacoma gearing is very different than your Jeep Rubicons gearing. Your 1st gear in 4Hi is the same as my Hondas Passport in 1st gear (20:1) which is just a tad bit more aggressive than the Tacomas 2nd gear in 4LO. If he was in fact in 4HI, then he’d have to high rev to get past speed stall. Higher revs mean less traction.
Yea the ratios in a Toyota are among the worst available, add larger tires and it gets worst. another thing was they likely were not able to engage 4low because of uneven ground. Toyotas want to be level to engage 4L
@@JonDZ_Adventuring typically running a higher gear ratio reduces torque to the wheels and makes it easier to be modulate traction over snow. I use to have a TRD off road and snow wheel’d it up from greenspot road to big bear and down to the high desert all off road. Using low range was terrible in it, BFG TA KO tires with 4 wheel chains and I still needed wheel speed and momentum.
@@KTMcaptain 16 plus Tacomas have no tq they need to be revved sky high. 15 below with the 4.0 where much better
Way too many people on them trails! I don't drive a 4x4 to sit in traffic.
Anything is possible if you force it. But for me. No low range no deal.
Which trail is this?
Nice. Where is that?
The San Bernardino area
@@JonDZ_Adventuring nice to see ridgeline doin those thing. I had 2006 when the first time it came out the market. Im still debating to buy another one but those haters man lol.
Where did the Ridgeline get his fender flares? Are those custom made?
Pretty sure it’s OEM Honda. They’re an option
@@JonDZ_Adventuring it looks different from the oem ones. The oem ones doesn't cover the whole front fender.
@@senyilie they are oem for 17-20 models. The 21 up are much larger and squared off up top. Not a fan of the new versions personally
