Massssive props to the team behind this film. Sooo many super fun and innovative and unique ideas added into this franchise. The whole mouse/snake scene by the Predator’s feet was one of the coolest and freshest ideas I’ve seen done in this universe. And the predators weapons, the trapper’s dying in the background scene where we just see the horses riding off after, etc. it’s pretty obvious that the people in charge of creating this film had a deep passion for it and the franchise at large, and it definitely paid off.

Oh, and she knew the needles followed the laser sight because she saw that happen during The Predator's fight with her brother: when its faceplate was knocked off, the laser pointer was aimed at a tree and every time it fired, the needles hit the tree at the exact laser point. There is a right of passage all the predator movies hold up. There is an exchange of weapons when a predator is defeated/Down, like to say "This the weapon that bested it" (Or in the case of AVP1, Alex was given the weapon of her fallen warrior buddy). Naru may have handed the weapon that bested the predator to the leader of its pack. Which ultimately hands it back to Danny Glover, could be the same family line ( in the predator comics, the hunting parties that fly down to the planet are families or tribes).

It’s likely been said but the flintlock pistol was first introduced in a comic that was considered official cannon for the franchise. I’m unsure if they’ll tie the comic to Prey in a future sequel, but regardless it’s a great piece of Predator lore! Also, the end credits scene shows the predator ship returning. It could be assumed that upon recovery of the dead predator they likely gave her a trophy in the form of a piece of their own tech, and she in turn gave them the flintlock pistol(as she would have no further use for it without powder or shot). This is the sequel predator fans deserved 🔥🤘🏻🔥

I really think this movie absolutely slapped. The cgi animals looked bad, but who cares? That kind of thing doesn’t hold the movie back, in my opinion, it’s a small detail. The rest of the movie was incredible, I thought…especially the hand to hand combat. Every blow had weight and gravity and, thanks to how hard the movie worked to successfully establish the Comanches within the world, I believed every single blow all throughout. I also am very invested in history and appreciate how hard this movie tried to center *as much* historical accuracy as it could. The handling of the language barrier in the camp between Naaru and the French was a highlight, for me.

This was awesome!! Loved the differences this one gave us. Different is very good!
Seeing her get caught in the mud I was hoping that wasn't going to be used like in the original. It was better to use it as a trap than as camouflage. We learned from the trailer that it was "primitive" weapons going up against the arsenal it has. But as the fights progressed we saw how their weapons were more effective than we assumed.
Predator vs Bear ...... tons of muscle, simply a brutal fight!!
Predator vs trappers .... no contest of course! That kill by throwing the trap was oustanding!!
The BEST difference is that the Predator didn't look the same! The skull/bone helmet/face plate was wicked!! Seeing another version was a good change!
We've learned from Marvel and other movies to watch through the credits. I'm glad I did because I saw that they did come back but in force with more ships and Predators. That would explain how they got the gun back!
    Great reaction bud!! Take care!!

Perhaps a satisfying answer to the multiple sounds of the ship at the beginning would be this - The Predator was making several passes by the area, checking for the relative level of technology and types of creatures present, to assess what level of weaponry to bring. It had a spear gun because the natives were using bows and arrows, and the fur trappers had single-shot guns. It wore no armor because the humans in the area had no armor, but it opted for a shield. The heat-seeking explodie disks seemed a bit overkill though lol.

  • @richardthecowardlylion5289

I think you're incorrect about these being 'primitive' Predators. I think they do have the plasma weapons and all that available, but I think the first two passes the ship made that you mentioned, were them doing a scan for tech to decide the level of weaponry to bring on the hunt.

-Billy's scar. In Predator 1, the Indian Billy made the cut with the machete over his chest just before he was killed. Here the bear hunters did it with her brother.
-Schwarzenegger line "if it's bleed, we can kill it"
    -the musket from part 2
-the well-known mud bath , used here as a false expectation for the viewers
There were more, but I can't think of them.
But also jurrassic Park 2 was represented here. In the field the hunting, the grass from a bird's eye view during the pursuit. Very similar to the raptor attack in Jurrassic Park 2.
Our protagonist's fight against the bear hunters is very reminiscent of Mortal Kombat and Scorpion.
Overall, I like this movie even a little better than Predator and that has been the best part of the series so far.
Of course, the original Predator design is still the best. This variant here is not bad either.
The drawings in the credits give hope for a sequel, but rather mean that this Indian was killed, because so the Predators come into possession of the muskete, which comes back in Predator 2.

From Predator 2, it's clear that the Predators have one hunter go by themselves while the others monitor/watch and then show up after the hunter either completes it's hunt or is killed.
As to the Predator not fighting fair, it's a clear commentary on hunting in general.
It's not like human hunters go hunting a grizzly with just a knife- they'll use high caliber guns.
    Hardly fair.😉

I also missed what Naru did in the end/how she knew the targeting system would work like that. Having rewatched: when Taabe is fighting the Predator, he knocks its mask off and this causes the bolts its fires at him to hit the tree (where the lasers are pointing) instead.

Yeah, it's a lot to pick up, but the way the bolts hit the native man where the "lasers" are pointing, and then when the bolts MISS, because the helmet was knocked off, changing the targeted destination, was all she needed to see to "figure it out" (she was pretty sharp!), although you would have needed to be really tuned in to the movie to catch these things in your first watching...
I (like most people, I think!) asked myself the exact same question - how did she KNOW the helmet worked that way? I wasn't too hung up on this question, though, to be honest! It was just sort of a passing thought. While watching it the second time it was much clearer, I think...
Anyways, I loved this movie, and it is definitely one of top 3 Predator flicks! I still like 2, although some give it a lot of flack (unfairly, in my opinion!). The ORIGINAL, of course, was sci-fi movie GOLD, so what else can you say about that...

Just because a movie was set earlier in the timeline, doesn't make it a 'prequel' XD It's just a sequel. It does depict the early Predator incursion but we all already knew that, since it was already explained in previous films. I really, really like this movie, although I'm not a fan of the new Predator creature design (the face design is really important to me). I do like the half mask concept. The new weaponry are cool too! Also I like that the Predator wasn't so OP compared to the earlier films, adds to the realism.

So history lesson that I can remember (Not a Historian) This film takes places somewhere around southern of Canada or Pacific North West when the First Settlers from French to Spanish started to arrive. When Naru First stumbled upon the corpses or the Bison/Buffalo that was not the Predator that was the settlers in there attempt to reduce the numbers of Native Americans via destroying what they used the most. There are many small things that you can personally look up to figure stuff about and I give the movie credit to have the people find there own answers to what "Prey" was referring too, the base of the entire story line. The movie version you English version or the Comanche version also have insight on wording that some stuff means very different in other versions of the movie. Even knowing a little French kinda helps to know what the French are doing here (in honestly should have subtitled what they say anyways to give more context but that is a minor gripe)
Hope this little lesson whatever it means help makes the movie that more enjoyable to watch (This is copy pasted to give some insight for if you wanna know)

After seeing Prey yesterday, I had some time to post my thoughts.
I really enjoyed this movie a lot. The atmosphere, cinematography, costumes, set design, action scenes and death scenes were amazing.
I liked the subtle amount of humor that wasn’t forced or woke for the sake of it. Loved the indigenous vibe of the film and the message it was trying to say.
The look of the Predator was just so cool! Both familiar and yet, different. The best way I can describe this Predator is that he had this Aztec kind of vibe to his armor and weapons based on some of the pics I saw in the trailer beforehand. Also liked that this was a prequel set a few hundred years before the first movie.
The score was great too. Reminded me of Assassins Creed: Valhalla with an indigenous and primal/tribal feel to it.
My only minor complaint was not hearing the familiar Predator theme in some way.
Other than that, it’s such a good movie. It definitely ranks high among the first two films and to a certain extent, the third one right now.
WAY better than the last one that came out a few years back. I gave it a 9/10.

This Yautja was most likely still very young and may not have been permitted to use the full kit of tools and weapons that most older “Blooded” Yautja are accustomed to. It would explain why he was so arrogant and preferred to just take damage instead of fighting smarter and evading. There’s several times where we see him blatantly ignore many of the Comanche warriors and French traders while they attacked him. Not to mention underestimating the bear’s strength and falling for the bear trap.

Also, I saw you were a bit confused when the predator just left her after she was caught in the trap. She was defenseless, and caught in a trap not of it's own. It even dropped the trap like "ah maaan. This would a dishonorable kill. Shame" also loved when they got the Yautja in a net, and it was like, "oh yeah, y'all like nets? How do you like mine?"

    @Omn1Media,
I always thought Predators had sight problems and that that's why they relied on their helmets/inferred. Yes, it can see with its helmet off, but I don't think it can see as well as we do or other animals of this world. Maybe they have something like T-Rex vision. If you stand perfectly still, you might be mistaken for the environment as we saw a couple of times in this movie when their body temperatures were lowered. I don't know what it is, but their eyes seem to be sensitive, particularly to things like fire. Our atmosphere and the lights moving through them problem give them blurred vision. I don't know if you're aware or not, but astronauts often have vision issues too. We humans are designed to thrive on Earth. We were built to live under the pressure of our planet's gravity and atmospheric pressures. Should we ever go to Mars, we're going to have issues as we weren't built to thrive on a planet with only 38% of Earth's gravity, but to be honest that'd be the least of our problems when you consider the radiation from the sun hammer the planet's surface--Mars' cooled core has cooled and as a result has a thin and weak atmosphere. Our world likely has less gravity than what Predators experience on their world, and maybe that's why they're so strong and can do those crazy jumps we often see them doing. We'd be stronger on Mars given that it's gravity is less than Earth's.
I don't know if I'd say it's unfair of them using their helmets as we use all of our senses too in our day to day tasks. Those of us with bad vision use glasses or contacts to help us do what we need to do. Naru couldn't smell the bear, but the bear sure could smell her. She couldn't hear the Predator creeping up on her either, but her dog and other animals around her could. She has the same senses they do, just not as good. That said, a Predators' helmet is also an extension of their weapon as we often see with their homing weapons. If they could be separated, it would be a much more fair fight.
I also enjoyed this movie more than the previous ones, though I did like the other ones too. I would love to see a follow up, and it wouldn't necessarily have to follow Naru. What if the other ships dropped off Predators in different territories? Japan in the early 1700s would be an interesting period. While not a particularly good time for Africa, I would also be interested in a story taking place in one of its many countries, naturally focusing on the indigenous people of Africa and not those who came to colonize it. An African (or a group, if they'd like to mix things up) would be taking/evading both Europeans and a Predator.
I only remember the various skulls found on the Predator ship in the second instalment. Did they show other weapons? In any case, a sequel or a set of sequels set at the same time but different locations would be awesome.
