  • This video goes over a few tips to help you understand the flow of starting a Robinson R44. Frank Robinson designed a few neat things in the R44 to prevent issues from arising during start and I will touch on a couple of these.

What happens if you keep the clutch disengaged, besides the rotor not spinning? Would that cause some damage later on when engaging it?

If the engine is running without belts engaged for too long it has the potential to cause damage to the belts from slipping and heating them up.

Good to see that it follows the X-Plane R44 model I have. I always start cold and dark to practice the flow, and this video is almost exactly the same (sounds and all). Next comes warm up and magneto check, yes?? One day I should get in an *actual* R44 and try it - saving up for a demo flight :b BTW, does the CFI like when we pre-study?? or do you prefer to teach that stuff yourself while in the cockpit?

Yes next is warmup and mag check. It is always great to study ahead of time and understand as much as possible.
