- Margi Coats and her 18-year-old son, Devin, are mourning the loss of Devin's twin brother, Nick, who died this week. "Nick wanted to live," his mom said. The brothers, born minutes apart, were diagnosed at age 17 with stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver. Both needed an organ transplant to survive, but were told they weren't sick enough to get on the waiting list. Months later, Devin received a donor, but by then, Nick had developed cancer. Prixor unfortunately due to the small amount of donor organs available there is specific criteria on who gets transplant organs and when. They won't give a transplant organ to someone who could potentially survive without it for a certain period of time, and they won't give it to someone who is too sick to survive the transplant surgery. Sadly for this family they didn't find a genetic match within this window of time.

Today is one year ago that I received a new liver. I was hospitalized twice due to encephalopathy , my abdomen was drained of acites 4 times and I was completely yellow.My last hospitalization they tested me to put me on the list.My MELD score was very high. I have a rare blood type and they sent me home on March 22, 2017 and at 4:30 am on March 25,2017 they called me and said we have a liver for you. I understand your pain. I marvel every day that I am alive. As a mother I also understand since I gave birth to twin boys but God took one from me shortly after they were born. They were only 2 pounds each . No one can ever explain why things happen. Please try to find joy that you have a second chance and your mother has a son with her. I wish you both ,and all who loved your beloved boy , well. Bless you.

Kristal - The problem is they just don't have enough organs for all the people who need them. When a liver becomes available, the transplant committee usually has to make a tough decision of who to give it to. The mother's interpretation of doctors saying "he's not sick enough" simply means they had to give any livers they had to people who were in worse shape, and dying even faster than her son. Not to mention, they found out this kid had cancer as well, and most likely would have died even with a liver transplant. It sucks they can't save everyone, but they most likely made the right choice.

Im 18 (as of two days ago) and i just got diagnosed with cirrhosis last month, its scary knowing sometime in the near future I will need a liver transplant. It makes so sad that this boy lost his battle with liver diease. my thoughts and prayers go to this family

Mr Swag 010 they won’t do a transplant until he was cancer free. He got to that point fighting then went into surgery and found more cancer so they couldn’t go through with it.
Inside edition if your reading this I saw your hotel test bed, and bathroom test but do they change a towel in the hotel if it’s clean or wet? Can you do a test on that

Here's what I don't get. How the hell do these news channels score interviews with people within days of losing their child? I just can't imagine thinking "My child just died, maybe I can get on the news".

CPPD- Yeah, I get that but the only problem here is, there is no message. They didn't warn about anything that may have prevented this, they didn't mention anything about the organ donation process, or how it could be improved, or any mistakes that were made. They were simply talking about the family member they lost, and how it feels without him. All this did was give them 15 minutes of fame. (or in this case, 2 minutes)
Actually, she said that her son should have qualified for treatment based on the diagnosis of liver disease. That he shouldn't have had to wait until he was too sick. Maybe she just didn't get her point across as eloquently as you would have liked, but that's grief for you.
