    That camera and the pictures it produces are amazing. But it takes a brilliant photographer like Will to bring out it's true colors.

    Wow, havn't seen an upload from you in a long while. Excellent.
    I love watching birds of prey. We have hawks and eagles here in the central US in Kansas. I work on a farm which has a large lake on it. In the morning I enjoy seeing the eagles hunt the lake. For their enormous size.they have incredible speed and skill.
    Hope you're doing well. Thanks and greetings from Kansas.

    Enjoyed that, really showed off the camera's AF. I've had the camera since February and yep pre - capture is the best bit, I personally believe 120fps is a must in some pre-capture situations. I'm curious to see if the next A1 will do 120fps with the 50mp. Subscribed.

      I’m not sure the next a1 will be quite as fast. If it just has the new screen and pre-capture then I’ll be very happy.

    Well done, not easy keeping them in the frame at 800mm 👍👍 And white/grey sky is always best, no sun , blue sky is a killer ....

    20,000 photos, good luck with that! Great video, thanks for sharing. For my BIF work, I think I'll stick with my Sony A1 cameras though.

    Photons to photos web site shows that the dynamic range of the A9iii is fine...pretty much the same as other current cameras. So why the complaining? ISO doesn't go down to 100 where DR is the highest. At 250 ISO, the DR is comparable to other cameras and full frame sensors. Bottom line, if you are shooting landscapes at 100 ISO and want the best DR....this is not your camera. But for action subjects, the DR is not something you need to be concerned with.

    Did you find you missed the res you have with your A1 and the cropability you have with it?
    I’m guessing on this shoot, with 800mm, you were already quite tight on the birds.

    • @willbl
      @willbl  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I had so many pictures to choose from that I could just ignore any that needed a significant crop so in this project it was not an issue. For many of my projects though I would tend to value the resolution over the speed.

    • @TheLDunn1
      @TheLDunn1 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@willbl thank you for the feedback on that one.
      I’ve been considering upgrading from an A7R3, it would primarily be for when shooting action, because I also use a GFX 50R when shooting subjects like landscapes….but it’s a pretty tough choice right now with the Sony range - I want features in the A9iii abut res of the A1/A7R5.

    • @willbl
      @willbl  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@TheLDunn1 If you are purely using it for action then the a9 iii would be my choice. For more varied uses with some action I would go with the A1 - it is hard to beat that combination of speed and resolution. I also think the A1 is a much better choice than the a7r5 for action because of the black-out-free viewfinder and higher frame rate. The a7r5 is most similar to the GFX 50R but of course with the better Sony AF.

      @@willbl thank you. I figure that when shooting wildlife or distance sports, having the res to crop would be beneficial, but so are things like pre capture.

    Really difficult to follow flying birds with erratic movements at 800mm. I think I would have taken off the teleconverter and shot at 400mm. Having been to Gigham farm shooting the red kite, 400mm works there

    • @willbl
      @willbl  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, if I go back then I think the 600mm prime would be my first choice. 800mm wasn’t necessary!

  • @andrewlee6152
    @andrewlee6152 Před 2 měsíci

    well for one the Sony a1, is more than fast enough to capture Red Kites in flight.. secondly yes the A9III can shoot at 120 fps, with zero rolling shutter, but it's resolution, is not much more than shooting in APSC mode with the A1, although it is full frame... It's the global shutter that really mkes it a ground breaking camera.. Bring on the a1 Mk2, with 60 megapixel global shutter, with 120fps or even half that... Yes the pre record function is handy for getting the shot of take off.... As for memory used, I have two Sony 640Gb tough cards in my a1..and shoot between 6000-800 frames, on average per day... occasionally I have gone over 2000, but the two tough cards, shooting uncompressed RAW are more than sufficent.
    sure if Sony gave me one, I'd take, but my a1 is more than enough

    • @evenhandedcommentor6102
      @evenhandedcommentor6102 Před 2 měsíci

      I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the A1 with global shutter any time soon. Yes, there will be a Mk 2 version of the A1 maybe early next year, but I highly doubt it will have global shutter. Still, I expect a very fast readout speed that eliminates almost all rolling shutter. And I expect pre-shot buffering. Maybe it will get to 60 frames per second, but maybe not. Tough to get that much when you're pushing 50mp. For fast action, I expect the A9iii to remain the king for the foreseeable future.

    Pre- capture is nothing new! New to Sony and 120fps. Btw the OM1 can do that too and with autofocus 50fps.
