Lyrics:
Well I'm on my way, I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way, I'm taking my time, but I don't know where
Goodbye to Rosie, the queen of Corona
Seein' me and Julio down by the schoolyard

Lol my mom is the double Dutch jumper in the white sweater 😂. Crazy to see this now. Her double Dutch team name was the “Jazzy Jumpers”. They were a big deal in the 80’s.
She was the feature double Dutch jumper, she was very good, IMHO.
Your mom was amazing! How cool to see her in this!
Darren Rozumek yes. Glad to have this visual of her younger self
Wow! That is soooo cool
Cool!😎👍
I just turned 63. Born and raised near Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn. Married, moved and still living in Queens New York. Felt like this video was shot in my backyard. Definitely brought me to tears and I don’t know why! Peace on earth and the rest will follow…
I am almost 63 ~ grew up in flatbush ~ st jerome's parish ~ not in ny anymore, but always a new yorker ~ peace!
@@pixiestrixie3543 oh wow! I am not a Christian, so I did not belong to a specific parish, but maybe we were at the same school at sometime! I went to Erasmus Hall high school of the performing arts. Graduating class 1979..Ditmas junior high school and PS 139. Kingsboro, community college, and then Brooklyn College.
Childhood memories are like none other. We know that we can't go back and wish that we would have cherished it more when we were living it.
I'm so happy for all of you
Lived in Albany Ave for a while back in the 80s. Remember the junction?
What I've always loved about Paul Simon is how he embraces all cultures, realizing we are one, to put it simply.
But diversity still sucks.

Absolutely... but our overlords needs us fighting amongst ourselves in order to swoop in ....
💯💯💯
Paul Simon grew up in Queens. Anyone who grew up in the boroughs in the ‘70s can appreciate this video.
Technically, all of New York City is "the boroughs."
This is how we grew up in Queens, NY back in the day. Great memories, great video. For those who may not recognize them, that’s Mickey Mantle & John Madden, both RIP, toward the end. ⚾️
John Madden's still living.
@@erinribo8558 not anymore
Did the radical priest give you a release?
Of course we recognize them. We don't recognize Paul Simon. Way too generic-looking for a rock star.
This has to be one of the happiest songs of all time.
So much sunshine. Always makes me feel like jumping around.
And the song "Saturday., in the Park" they both make me happy!
And it’s funny that the song is about running from the cops after committing a crime. Crazy how the most joyful songs we hear have underlying tragedy.
@@Thegooman67 "Free Nelson Mandela" by the Specials is a great example of this.

Biz Markie has passed away. That's him beat boxing in the beginning of the video. I just thought of this video when I heard about his passing.
Me too.
With Big Daddy Kane. Two hip hop legends.
Biz passed!!!!!??????
I didn't hear anything about it
I didn't even see that 😕 RIP Biz!!
So sad..this one my favorite song
I think Paul Simon may be the most underrated musician in history. I never hear his name brought up in the articles I read about greatest of all time. He's got to be top ten.
+brugglesby Yes, absolutely
+brugglesby Underrated? Paul Simon? He has been world famous since the 60's, known the world over for his exceptional song writing. His rating is just right.
***** Absolutely!
brugglesby The fuck you talking about? Paul Simon is one of the most famous musicians in history.
He's got to be number 1
I remember those classic urban neighborhood summer days. Clean peaceful fun day at the park & everyone doing their thing in peace n harmony. Different cultures all together in one park having fun. Priceless

Such a beautiful NY snapshot, all the people singing this American classic ⭐️
What a great slice of NYC multiculturalism from the 70's. We all played in school yards or city parks that could consist of a handball court and a basketball rim to much larger parks dotted all over Brooklyn and Queens. Long live PS 214.
Never doubt the street cred of Paul Simon
That boy be O.G., yo.

My pops used to call me Julio after this song. It always makes me think of him. The best thing he ever gave me was my sense of humor. Oh ya, my name is Julie.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music…..❤️❤️❤️
Hi Julie. My dad used to call me Julio also.
Double Dutch. I’m 68 years old and I want to do that again!
I didn't expect that intro but I'm down with it.

Me and Julio selling drugs down by the school yard
The new school kids don't know jack about this excellent old school music. My condolences. I'm glad I lived this old school era. Another time another era.
This is My America.
Anthony "Spud" Webb nerd in the glasses who rained them dunks @5'7" 1986 NBA Dunk Champ, Man this video take me back...... wayyyyyy back!!!! Good Times back then. And I had a good friend named Julio!!!!
I really thought I clicked on wrong video because of intro but apparently Paul Simon be in the hood for real
He with Julio in the school yard with Rakim, Tyrone and moesha, even a Chinese kid was in the school yard. Great song about fucking racism , everybody having fun in the school yard.👍👍
Great anti racial song. Only kids missing we're the Indians. They must be in the library studying to be doctors.
@ISLAMATRON that was big daddy Kane and biz markie. I mentioned Rakim , Tyrone and moesha as common names of African Americans and Julio latin. That's why his poppa started the investigation , because it was against the law ,for whites to hang with minority ( latin and Blacks). If I catch that boy I'mma stick in the house of detention. If you listen to lyrics it's about racial acceptance. Madden sarcastically said that's the problem with kids today they just don't listen. Paul's parents didn't want him playing with a Rakim or a Julio.
Them little sisters even in my era the 80s and school put everybody else to shame in double Dutch jump roap.
Paul picked the brother with glasses and a prepie sweater with suspenders and then he was dunking basketball on everybody. Don't judge a book by it's cover is another lesson down by the school yard.
The girl jumping roap at 1:52 is bad as hell. As in good
My all time sports hero, #7 Mickey Mantle. We all could relate to Mickey, he struggled with physical pain and addictions like most of us and in the end he let everyone know what is important and showed so much humility and fortitude. Rest in peace Mick!
Yeah, my very first hero was the Mick!!!
Why was Mickey batting lefty against lefty?
Wow . I grew up listing to big Daddy Kane , Biz and hip-hop music but became a fan of Paul Simon when I matured and got older. He got two of the most respected rappers of all time to start his video with a freestyle in the hood? It's a wrap for me Im a Paul Simon fan. 💯
Rest in Peace, Biz.
RIP Mickey Mantle
RIP Biz Markie
RIP John Madden
How the hell do you get Paul Simon, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Large Professor, Mickey Mantle, and John Madden all in the same video?!? #Classic
,and Spud Webb to boot
Only in New York son.
because music is magic dumbass
True this is an awesome combo of folks Amigo, but Music is MAGIC!! and knowns no color nor race etc, Me like a LOT!!
Great point Oz how about NBA Slam Dunk Champ Spud Webb!!
From the sounds of silence to gracelands. Paul Simon is musical genius. Flying under the radar, but so influential. Truly one of the greats. His music was part of my schooling.
It's weird how he has that "under the radar" vibe, he sure does, but he's one of the biggest selling artists in history, Sound of Silence was the biggest selling album of all time until Thriller.
As big as MJ, but still seems under the radar, it's wild, I guess it's humility.
Mine too. I was born in 1945. Grew up listening to Paul. Oh JoY
This song, and especially this video, never fails to put a smile on my face. The choreography is perfection, the music is CLASSIC. The energy is united making its total more than the sum of its parts. John and Micky are additional bonuses putting it over the top. Fantastic.
The song was also used in a Saturday Night Live skit where Paul played 1-on-1 basketball against NBA great Connie Hawkins.
Let's not forget Spud Webb
My apologies to Spud. You are amazing! @@wandamanning9198
Resting times are settling in. As we get old and face the end of life....we tend to remember the "GOOD TIMES". This song is part of that. THANK YOU PAUL! Memories of that school yard, Bronx, NY. Sabrett hot dogs and a YOO HOO. Smell of suntan lotion...Mommy made us wear it. Funny how kids today don't know true happiness and security. I think Poppa needs to start the INVESTIGATION. Parental guidance and ethics in this sorry world has disappeared. Society does not "take their time" to find out where they are going. Thank you Paul. From someone who took time to see where I was going. God bless you.
And by the way.....double Dutch, hands down..that beautiful girl was a shaker! Back in the 70's, competition was WICKED!
They're gone and we'll never have days like that again.
Damn, my respect for Paul Simon just grows and grows .....

Flo Jo why because he’s daring to playing sports with people in the ghetto?

Hey everyone, I'm from the Caribbean, Trinidad to be precise, this song can really reflect on life as a kid in school, playing games with your friends and having fun,not worrying about a care in this world, like boys pitiching mabels, playing soccer, his and seek, girls jumping rope, playing models, all in the school yard just being children, sharing snacks and drinks and sweet with everyone all in the school yard, and your friend was every one because of off the love we shared as children
Thanks for the acknowledgment
Rest in Peace, Coach Madden
And Mickey Mantle
This song makes me feel good no matter what's happening. It always brings a smile to my face and makes me think of the better times.
Paul's music just gives me so much joy. Has been the backdrop to countless good times. Was so happy to have had the chance to see him this year on his Homeward Bound tour. The man is one of the greatest songcrafters in history by my measure. Thank you, Paul!
A lot of his music had African based instruments, sound, and vibe/culture to it! He truly loves the culture/music and then his lyrics are so moving! Truly one of the best musical genius; Paul Simon will forever be legendary!

I'm a Londoner, I wish we had a Paul Simon. Dam you NY! -much love!
I think its dope he had Biz Markie and Big Daddy Kane beat box and spit a rhyme in the beginning....never expected it
Yeah for a second
Paul Simon was once asked "what were you and Julio doing down by the school yard?" He answered "I have absolutely no idea."
I always thought it was steamy gay sex
Has to be something to make mom spit on the ground when mentioning his name. Can’t be smoking or drinking. So back then homosexuality was illegal
I thought it was a reference to racism
Dey be sellin crack down by the schoolyard.
I always thought it was an interracial romance but now i've come to believe it was, in fact, steamy gay love. Though as Simon said, it's up to the listener to prescribe their own meaning
I've never IN MY LIFE seen this video. Kane, Biz, AND Madden. What a dope little surprise for my afternoon. Yeah Pablo!
And "The Mick"!!
dragorocky spud Webb too
dragorocky Spud. You forgot Spud Webb.
Paul Simon is among an elite group of celebrity talents that can actually throw a baseball well.
I am 44 years old. A GenX 90's B-Boy from NY, pretty much black, Brooklyn born, but raised in Westchester. Very eclectic. I know everything from Gun and Roses to X-Clan. My question is....how did I not know Big Daddy Kane and the Biz actually opened a Paul Simon video? And Large Professor too? If there ever a mash up, this is it. The mash up of all mash ups before there were mash ups. I know Paul was on some African shit after going solo but this next level.
Amazing that this song became a hit in 1986 without any drums or keyboards. Genius!
Hey what about those grade A bongos man.
1972. It was released on his first solo album
Mother and child reunion is his best in my opinion.
Bongos all over the place! Just look at 1:57

I love this Video. It’s so New York!
i am old now, and maybe not much more on thins earth, but my greatest sadness is i never got to meet you, you dont know , but over my trials and tribulations in life, some how just some how you were with me on my road , bit out of the ball rack i know, but you have helped me form the road i have followed to god
Just an incredible, quintessential, New York City video. I wonder in what schoolyard they shot it in?
WikeddTung I went to Halsey and my dad went to FHHS
Was that English?
Wikipedia says: The video was filmed at Mathews-Palmer Park in Hell's Kitchen, which was standing in for Halsey Junior High School in Forest Hills, Queens, the neighborhood in which Simon grew up and met Art Garfunkel in high school. Many of the children featured in the video were from that same school.

I named my son Paul, after Paul Simon. I was 39 years old couldn't get pregnant. I had a dream I met Paul Simon. I told him I was having a baby boy and naming him Paul. 2 weeks later I learned I was pregnant. My son would sing this when he was little. So I told him the story. @Paul Kuhn, I checked out the video because I heard the song a coupla days ago and I picked up my guitar, and a buddy, and we ciphered out the chords and jammed half the day on it. Fun jam, great tune in A/D/E with a latin inspired strum pattern. The "whistle bridge" is tricky while playing the chords
