- This summer, nine inmates in Texas prisons died of heart attacks while being held in cells without air conditioning. That is according to members of a prison advocacy group, who called on the governor to help those serving time in hot cells.

That's true, but I just got out, and most are there because they did do something. Again I agree with you but I met more quilts than I did innocent people. In fact I only ran across 2 people that said they didn't do anything in the 5 yrs I was incarcerated.
Besides that, it’s inhumane to keep them in the Texas heat with no sort of relief. Doesn’t matter what they did, their punishment is time behind bars, not time behind bars in sweltering heat.
Especially when all suspects are guilty until proven innocent

my son is in stiles unit in Texas, (for non-violent manslaughter for shooting a rapist he caught in the act. ) Anyway, he told me that 8 inmates young and old died in Aug. and July (2023) in a 2-to-3-week period from heat related causes. but of course, TDCJ has not once classified these type deaths as heat related. This has been one of the hottest summers ever. I worry so much for him.

I know he has put in requests for classes ( they probably ignore it.) We talk every day. He hopefully will come home june 2025.

I love Governor Abbott. But I don't think giving people a death sentence with out a trial is wrong g. It's 107 degrees in Austin right now. Let's turn off the air conditioning at the governors mansion and see what he thinks about treating Texas citizens/prisoners in this manor.

What folks also dont know is most facilities have 3 people jammed into 1 person cells installing a 2 bunk and using a plastic "boat" for the 3rd than goes on the floor in front of the shitter.

There was a time that they cared and that was during the time when William Wayne Justice had oversight which ended around 2002. After that the agency became dangerously short staffed and safety in general went down hill.
I was a correctional officer these inmate will destroy anything to make weapons or use anything including metals motors from the ac to make tattoo machine to make a living to eat it’s very difficult to keep up with all this machinery on top of that very lazy officers that are not willing to report any incidents

@@robjohnson9270 Obviously they didn’t get a death sentence because they aren’t on Death Row, which means they were supposed to serve their time as punishment and be released (live). Torture and death by means of the authorities paid to house them is unethical, and makes them criminals too.

They are not telling us how old the prisoners were, what their health condition was before they went to prison, if they had preexisting conditions etc. If they were drugs of any kind, legal or illegal. Seems to be a lot missing from the story other than they all had heart attacks.

I don't care what they did or didn't do..... my brother is about to hit the chain in a few weeks and this scares the crap out of me! Not only are most of the prisons the wrong place for a mass majority of the inmates but having to deal with the mental shock of being in a place you can't sleep from having to watch your back but you also can't sleep due to the heat! Everyone knows what heat does to us, it makes everyone irritable and angry.

Probably one of the main reasons why i believe the justice system is broken and thats never getting fixed its only getting worse peope deserve a second chance to be better and given the help they need to do it and support somthing that the government refuses to do
The idea that a significant number of convicts would do something different with another chance is laughable....we have a LOT of data that shows that just isn't the case....USUALLY, just like with drinking and driving, odds are, it wasn't the first offense even if it was the first time getting caught, and people just jump through the hoops the legal system puts up before returning to their old behaviors once the oversight ends. For most, probation/incarceration/parole is just a momentary pause in the party....For most, nothing changes inside except increased exposure to negative influences....they don't come out with increase job opportunities even if they bothered to get educated while locked up, which just adds pressure to make more bad choices...

What's wrong in America is that all 50 states have different punishments for the same crimes so there is different consequences and repacussions. These legislations of states want to line there pockets first since they know the public doesn't want to hear about the prison systems. America encourages cruel and unusual punishment when at the same time they say that they are against it.

I hope you never get wrongly accused and convicted of a serious crime because that actually happens quite a bit. I know because I just got out. And while most people in there are guilty of the crimes they committed, there are some that don't belong in there at all.
