  • This video talks about how 7 days to die alpha 20 looks compared to alpha 1 all the way back in 2013. I discuss a lot about the early alpha content and how quickly it used to be released for 7 days to die. I showcase some early game trailers and talk about the big content that came out with each alpha 1, alpha 2, alpha 5, etc.
Let me know what you remember about these early days of the game!

I’ve only recently started playing 7DTD but I really prefer how the old vehicle system used to work!
I like how you could exchange parts for better ones, because things like batteries still have a tier/level but it doesn’t really matter because of the new system…

I feel like the old alphas had a sort of liminal feel to them. Seeing the alpha 4ish building and zombie movement made me have huge nostalgia.

A16 was the best. It all went downhill from there.
Like you said, it was its own game. Then at some point they decided to "borrow" from other games and made it a generic one.
The early alphas had way more atmosphere or something, i dunno.

I barely touched Vanilla since the release of A17, and until A20 I almost exclusively played the Darkness Falls overhaul mod. A20 finally made vanilla worth playing again, although with a few modlets of course.
I’m dreading the next alpha, although I hope TFP surprise me and don’t screw up the game.
Finally let me say, my current biggest disappointment is the low number of zombie models. I’ve long said I’d have preferred they spent their time adding more variety in zombies, even if only in clothing/hair color, the updating the current Zeds. The nurse is a perfect example, they could have kept the old nurse, in the uniform and added the one is scrubs, and even had ones with different color scrubs

The problem is take 1,3 year to make a update that doesnt change that much, removing Zombie/animal types and models, removing cool sound efects that gave so much ambience (check ou alpha 8.8-11 ambience by the way), removing actions skills, being 10 FUCKING YEARS OLD and dont evolve as other alpha games did, in Vanilla you finish the game at day 30 or less and needing mods to make the game have its true potencial (some of it) released

When boars gave pork and chickens gave chicken. Deer giving venison.
      now we got "meat" lumps.
having to make those inventory choices on a hunt was part of the survival experience for me, and they killed most of that by over engineering things and dumbing down mechanics. Its very sad IMO.
7DtD reminds me of an artist that doesn't know when to stop messing around with their art, they had something beautiful, then the decided to add glow in the dark paint or some sort of weird 3D illusion and ruined it. Massive shame IMO
That said, allowing you to roll back to earlier iterations of the game is fantastic for me, i just hope they keep allowing you to do so if they ever fully release the title.

Alpha 9 or 10 are best, just loot, kill and build, that simple and fun with many zombies. No boring long grinding for stuff, no sleeping zombies hiding randomly in places they would never be, no mines throughout the map randomly, no cheesy zombie killing machines like blades and turrets, no vehicles to cheese it.

I prefer the old Alphas, it was more fun, horde night every night, you just loot for stuff to use and build with, get a base up and kill zombies, none of this grindy crap we have now and silly zombie killing machines like turrets and no sleeping zombies hiding in places they would never be, like in sealed boxes or in unreachable ceilings... and no random mines hiding throughout the map in glitchy terrain to kill you randomly..
