We get a pleasant tingling sensation from close personal attention, and that encouraged our ancestors to participate in social grooming. The phenomenon isn't detrimental at all, so there was no evolutionary pressure to lose it after we lost our fur.
This is relaxing and all, but can we please acknowledge the fact that monkeys only do these things to whom they consider a family/friend? Like the way they groom their offsprings? This monkey really loves him 😭💕 also, that constant mouth noise is really tingly 😍

I absolutely love the sound of that little feller so damn cute but he has the sweetest little lip smacking sound I can listen to it for hours puts me to sleep every time man I tell you dude you're really lucky to have such a cool pet one that is so friendly and loyal to you he seems like he really loves you sincerely please keep sending the videos we all really enjoy watching them and mainly listening to them ASMR
He is also looking for ticks, skin sores that he can clean up. He will gently squeeze a blemish! They seem sometimes to be putting a healing on an ill part of the body! It’s fascinating!
I dare you to put some sprinkles in your hair for him to find, and if she misses any they'll simply desolve in the shower 😁 who knows maybe she'll be happy to actually find something

Ya know one time when i was getting a pet guinnea pig the nice lady at the pet shop (they did rescues and didn't keep animals not suited to that location) had a ring tailed lemur wearing a diaper and he jumped onto my shoulder, she asked first if i wanted it. And he combed through my hair a little bit and it was the most relaxing thing ever. This is awesome.

My understanding is that the lip smacking behaviour is usually a sign of anxiety. The groomer is benefited as much as the groomee - not only does it help with general hygiene, it is calming and reinforces social standings/connections.
