You guys are gonna laugh but I'm about to pull the trigger on a Lamar 7K 5X10 high side dump to try to hustle it around central Vermont with my Tacoma! I've already got the suspension beefed up for hauling my tools so I just need to add a brake kit to the truck. Hoping to make an extra $500/month to cover the payments and my time. I'm thinking I just need to do two hauls a month to make it work. What do you guys think?
I got a question. Is it better to sit and wait with the dump trailer? Till the people fill it or is it better to leave the dump trailer and move on to something else? While it's being filled. And. If you leave it do you worry about it being stolen And do you have a way to recommend to keep it from being stolen
Great vid. A 20 ton bottle jack under the front of the dump box to help with that first 12 inches of lift helps your pump and cylinder last a lot longer. Stay gold.
As always, great advice Robert. You should also keep a roll of paracord and a sharp knife in the truck. Strong enough to tie down some potential flyaway debris and cheap enough to dump with the load.
I charge $250 for 5 yard trailer. Includes 1,000 lbs anything over they pay. We have to keep prices up. We provide a great service and have to get paid for it.
Those roofers filled that trailer pretty good . Fuel ⛽️ is a big issue with many business for sure . Bungee cords are like pencils ✏️ always go missing lol .
other things to have is a solar charger in case your battery is dead to lift it if you haven’t used the dump in awhile. and some 25 ft jumper cables in case the dump gets stuck and wont come down so you use your truck to jump the battery.
I tend to disagree with the diesel truck comment. 1 ton diesel trucks are just built stronger for this kind of work. Gas trucks are not. Also people thinking about getting into this let me tell you what a real landfill is like. You have to go up a small mountain to get to the top to dump. At least in my area. If it’s raining at all you’ll have to have 4 wheel drive and the torque of that diesel pulling a few tons up the side of a land fill mountain with a heavy grade sure comes in handy. Right tool for the job.
I have a gas f250 6.2 with a 14’ gooseneck dump. I’ve been using it roughly for about a year and a half. I’ve only spent money on a set of tires, fuel, and oil changes. I’ve thought about getting a diesel not sure about the reliability as I’ve had no down time with my gas burner.
How do you know what to charge without knowing the weight? U charge 200 just to get out there but then u have 6 tons to deal with at the scales. Its 65 per ton where I live.
You start to get a feel of how much stuff will weigh. It is critical for you to make a few runs and you might lose some money but that’s just a learning curve
Do you get paid before or after the service. I ask because you know how some people like to play but don't want to appear petty to the customer so I'm just trying to hear some feedback on that subject
@@hustlenation4779 it's okay I was just curious out here in Cali the dump is $120 a ton that load would have been over $700 to just dump, time to leave this state lol
They don’t impound equipment for being overweight 😂 in most states it’s basically nothing. Like $.10 per hundred lb you’re over gvwr.. oooooh so scary 🙄
Question: I have the same truck just short bed. The GCVWR. Is 18,000lbs. Do you need to buy a trailer to match to make sure you don’t go over the GCVWR? With that theory, I would only be able to buy a 10k trailer. What’s in the video is a 14k. Is it legal to pull a trailer with a larger than legal combined vehicle rating?
@@hustlenation4779 I can’t even find it on DOT. That’s why I was asking you because we have the same truck. I wanted to get the larger trailer but my GCVWR is 18,000lbs. That’s slightly more than what a 10k trailer would be with a 2 ton load. I always want to go a little higher because don’t like to max things out. I like a little stress cushion.
As long as you are under the rating on your weight rating of 18,000 If you get inspected The D.O.T with no doubt will go with exactly what your truck and trailer combination is rated for. Anything over you better prepare for a good inspection and open up the checkbook. There is no gray area.
@@Scott-tn5vn as far as the DOT is concerned it does not matter what your trailer is rated for compared to what your truck is rated to tow. You can use a 4 banger Toyota to pull a dump trailer with a rating of 5k lbs gvwr. The Toyota is rated to pull 3500lbs and then the Toyota also has gawr’s. As for the dot as long as your axle weight is not over and your not pulling more than 3500 lbs the dot can’t say anything. Would that be super wise? Not really because the trailer is going to weigh most of what you are rated for even empty but is it legal? Yes. Same situation as you present. A lighter trailer may actually be able to haul more weight for you because it will weigh less empty, maybe.
Thank you for the quick response that size trailer I can pick up for a good price right now if headed to a bigger one and pay more money my goal is to buy that trailer make a profit and then buy a bigger one and have two of them

Yes sir I totally agree with you on that for sure

I definitely agree
Use a quality box cutter.
Replacing the blade is easy and refills are a writeoff.

Amen on that
Dump fees in my area start at $80.
I'm about to start a dump trailer business. Unfortunately the local landfill charges by the yard at $24 per yard.

Yes indeed so very true
Jest an idea. I use ratchet straps across the tarp to keep loads from shifting. Especially tall loads. Y'all keep em straight out there there ya here.
Excellent idea thank you so much for watching

Very good points that you bring up
Anyone think it’s not a good idea to use a 2015 Tahoe to start a small dump truck business?? No one can really give me an answer
Just be careful how much weight you start pulling with it
I would do whatever you can to avoid buying a diesel truck. WAY to much $ to maintain/fix them.

Even though I own a diesel and prefer it, you are absolutely correct

I need a dump trailer next Monday in Poughkeepsie NY. 😆😆 love the vids brother
I know that’s right
Thank you brother. I also was looking at the 2500 ram gas burner
If you’re going to be doing heavy pulling I would suggest go ahead and buy a diesel
You’ll want a Cummins. They’re the best.
