More pain to the economy created by the federal reserve trying to achieve their inflation numbers after almost 7 trillion pumped out in 2020. Plus fiat currencies continually decreasing in value for decades, but king dollar is at record highs on the index at 108. Thanks for the boots on the ground info.

Any good business person knows that printing and free money is only a crutch except the government. They have caused all of the issues we are seeing one way or another. the dollar is still the best currency on earth but my faith in government is losing value year after year. as a business owner I have to make sure I survive one way or another and change my stategy based on whatever happens! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment

All good points. I am working my way to 20 cans after starting with just one dump trailer about a year ago. Flipped them fast early on, but now that I have more cans I can let them sit longer. At $10/day with 20 out, that would put me at $200 day and $6000mo with them just sitting for 30 days.

I'm and Electrical Engineer full time. But my own business specializes in Home remodeling/residential Electrical/residential Plumbing. And to be completely honest, I did kind of walk away from my business as we had a child with another on the way. but another reason was that the costs of materials continued to sky rocket, as the clients wages stayed the same. So Clients would get incredibly upset at the quotes. Like to full blown trying to argue with me as I continued the same path of "I'm sorry, this is the cost for the world we're in right now. Otherwise I'm doing the work for next to free" and that defeats the whole purpose of doing the jobs. Now we didn't need the income. My wife also runs her mobile dog grooming business. So needless to say we were fine financially. But it was my true hobby, and it allowed extra income for us to treat ourselves to nicer things that we never had/did. The overview is.. Once it came down to clients constantly haggling and complaining about the cost of the job, my child being born, and the stress of children hospital visits and complications. It just wasn't worth it anymore. I walked away and ended the business. Lots of things create failure.. jumping in over your head, debt/Financials, relationship risks, family complications/health, time management. It all compiles on a person until they just don't/can't do it anymore. You're either devoted to the growth of the company, or you're determined to fall. It's really hard riding in between.

The economy really messes with stuff like this. With literally everything being 100% more expensive or worse not a lot of people have an expendable income anymore. In my opinion, renting a dumpster isn't typically a requirement its something that's an elective (I.E they want to clean out a garage or start a home project) With everything being so expensive now it's eating into that expendable income and a lot of people just don't have the money for side projects.

One reason I can see new businesses failing Justin is that they're not willing to diversify. In one of the Facebook groups I saw guy's post where he said he was slow and he had some calls this week from contractors, roofers, and stuff like that but he only does residential he doesn't want to do those type of clients. In my book he is going to fail because hes not willing to diversify and do other clientele besides residential. Not saying that he has to do everything but he has to do more than just residential clientele

    • @hhprogressiveconstruction1140

Your views on pricing can be applied to lawn maintenance services as well.
Competing on price is a race to the bottom. This is especially important when considering what "Chuck in a truck is charging."
I believe your industry's saving grace is the higher cost of entry compared to property maintenance. Either way, never compete on price!
    1. Find your value proposition.
    2. Know your numbers.
    3. Do market research.
    4. Set minimum price.
    5. Set realistic expectations on what you can and want to earn.
    6. Market, market, market!
    7. Answer the phone.
    8. Diversify service offerings, but not too much 1-4services is key. If there's enough demand for a single service, even better. "Diversification is for idiots" -Keith Kalfas

Great video Justin! Truth of the matter is 25% of businesses fail in the first 2 years. Almost HALF fail within the first 5 and 65% in the first 10!
I agree with just about everything you said. I also think pre-pandemic and then during the pandemic, the “gig economy” boom was huge, but now some people are realizing the cold hard fact that not everyone is cut out to be a business owner, and that’s ok. Sometimes being the best employee you can be is more rewarding for some.
