One of the most underrated scenes in the series IMO. He didn't even beat him into submission (even though he could have if he wanted to) he straight up just convinced him that he couldn't win and it worked. That seems like it would be pretty hard to do in an anime like DBZ.

Yeah if Vegeta had the same mentality as Goku with accepting having his sons become stronger than him and eventually taking the role of protecting the Earth. Trunk's tragic past in his timeline would definitely play a role in an emotional push into ascending to SSJ 2 and some other factors.

In Dark Souls 3 I had made a build very specific to combat multiple Melee users. I was also using only Lothric Greatknight Sword which swings slower than longswords. I was fighting someone in gank city who had speed but his attacks did barely anything and my mindset was exactly like trunks, All power and high defense but green enough to not learn how to parry (I had the caestus on me too but I despised parrying.) I was also not dodging enough because I was too busy relying on Attacking and using poise but he got smart enough to attack me before I swung so I was getting hit multiple times until I was dead. It too him a while to take me down too. That's when I started using a murky small scythe in my future fights since it was a meta weapon used to chase down and outspeed opponents. But every other player that was aware of it already knows about it too so it would be useless to use it against players like that. You have to always adapt to the situation and use different weapons and fighting styles to come out on top.
the crazy thing about this is that budokai 1 actually had this form and for some crazy reason, no other dbz game bothered adding this form to cell again. he did use it twice, once with trunks and again with gohan when he was pissed off.

In all likelihood he would have been down just like Vegeta - Cell couldn't do that to Trunks because Trunks went to SSJ 3rd Grade which meant he was putting out more power to not only stay strong but a lot more resilient even if he can barely get a hit on Cell. If Trunks continued and Cell decided to fight without powering up then Cell would have kept knocking Trunks down and let him waste his energy trying to get a hit but if Cell buffed up he would leave Trunks unconscious like he did with Vegeta when he beat him without buffing up

This episode actually pissed me off, because Vegeta has always been a favourite of mine and people were going on about how much stronger Trunks is compared to Vegeta. Krillin even irritated me slightly when trying to compare Vegeta's strength to Trunks'. But honestly he used a dumb technique that was useless. Vegeta knew this, Cell knew this and even Goku did it while it the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and said it was a bad idea. I know this comment is way late but I just wanted it off my chest. It's bothered me for years.
What kills me is how Vegeta later realises Goku's logic in staying Super Saiyan at all times to be able to capitalise on the entire power it offers without depriving yourself from the boost and the energy it takes up. Yet he goes into the Hyperbolic time chamber another year and achieves fuck all. 2 years spent in there and he's not even close to Goku who spent 10 months yet Vegeta was smart in matters of combat and training (although he did often train hard not smart admittedly) and understood the logic of just staying in SSJ1 for longer and longer until eventually you maintain it for good but somehow didn't manage it in an entire year after having learnt Ascended Saiyan? Toriyama despised Vegeta and it shows. He didn't want anyone else able to challenge Cell after Goku except for Gohan so he cockblocked him out of being Goku's equal at a time when Gohan would become the number 1, which should have led to him then becoming Vegeta's next goal instead of Goku.
Trunks is one of those fighters that goes straight for the win/kill and doesn’t toy around and let his opponent power up to full strength unlike Goku Vegeta and Gohan, but he likes battle knowledge

To be fair, Broly is huge to begin with, so I don’t think he really bulked himself up much.

This episode actually pissed me off, because Vegeta has always been a favourite of mine and people were going on about how much stronger Trunks is compared to Vegeta. Krillin even irritated me slightly when trying to compare Vegeta's strength to Trunks'. But honestly he used a dumb technique that was useless. Vegeta knew this, Cell knew this and even Goku did it while it the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and said it was a bad idea. I know this comment is way late but I just wanted it off my chest. It's bothered me for years.

What kills me is how Vegeta later realises Goku's logic in staying Super Saiyan at all times to be able to capitalise on the entire power it offers without depriving yourself from the boost and the energy it takes up. Yet he goes into the Hyperbolic time chamber another year and achieves fuck all. 2 years spent in there and he's not even close to Goku who spent 10 months yet Vegeta was smart in matters of combat and training (although he did often train hard not smart admittedly) and understood the logic of just staying in SSJ1 for longer and longer until eventually you maintain it for good but somehow didn't manage it in an entire year after having learnt Ascended Saiyan? Toriyama despised Vegeta and it shows. He didn't want anyone else able to challenge Cell after Goku except for Gohan so he cockblocked him out of being Goku's equal at a time when Gohan would become the number 1, which should have led to him then becoming Vegeta's next goal instead of Goku.

If Trunks was smart he would have switched between ascended ssj and ultra ssj during the fight because one gives you a slight increase in speed and power and one significantly increases your power, if any of you have read DbM or recall Goku doing that with God and Blue in ToP then you already know what I mean by this.
