    Derren Brown is a British mentalist, illusionist and author. Since his television debut with Derren Brown: Mind Control in 2000 he’s produced multiple series and specials, winning two Laurence Olivier Awards. Derren doesn’t claim to possess any supernatural powers and his acts are often designed to expose the methods of those who do. He often claims his impossible effects are merely achieved through "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection, and showmanship".

      There is an ear piece, he repeats the book name and page number so they know what to look for, they look it up and he repeats what they tell him. That's why he is speaking slower than usual, to give them time.

      @@itstimeforlee actually this is not true. Photo reading or "mind palace" is actually real mnemonic technique. But the truth is that it is mostly useless. You can synthesis knowledge out of such memory and it "evaporates" quickly.

    Daren Brown in one of his videos ecplained this skill. He called this "mind palace". And the main secret of this skill is that it is mostly useless (Daren told that himself) 🙂

    Jen’s mom Beth here; What is the real difference between a magician vs. a mentalist? I grew up watching “The Amazing Kreskin” as a child, known as a mentalist. Some magicians seem to do both. Is the training and education different or is it all considered “magic”?

      Mentalism is a subset of magic. There are many crossover skills and methods. The primary difference between the two is that mentalism is often presented as "real" and people believe it. See comments on this video saying that it's not a trick (it most definitely IS a trick).

    • @Rhewin
      @Rhewin Před rokem

      @@peterbangers8147 much more accurate to say both are a subset of the mystery arts along with hypnotism, escape artists, etc. They use some overlapping skills but otherwise the approaches are very different. Mentalism doesn’t have to be presented as real psychic powers, but for the performer to be effective they should *perform* it that way. Mentalism should look like a demonstration of mental powers, even if the performer is using disclaimers like Derren.

    and i dont think its a trick...thats what makes Darren Brown a master...I will start researching about this, I can do it on a very very small window of time and with single pagers, I guess its a matter of practice and there is some technique to it...which I am not familiar with, any recommendations on tutorials or books explaining the method would be very welcome xD...

    • @kareandersson
      @kareandersson Před 10 měsíci

      @@isaiahayers155012,000 and a million aren't very close which I recognized - but dozens of books is well within the limits. If you talk about perfect photographic memory the comparision is limited by the eye already, since the eye has a very small focus, so you can very well remember everything you see and still have glitches when for instance be asked about details in a book. Likely many of the stories about eidetic memory are exaggerated, but there are cases which I believe will get the "ok" from most people. Exactly how they remember - if they remember the images as scenery - probably differs from case to case. But for instance there are experiements done with people memorizing one gibberish pattern with the left eye, later another with the right eye, which patterns are parts of a 3D image which makes sense only as a 3D scene as the individual images are completely chaotic. These people have been able to describe the 3D images hidden. This must realistically be taken as evidence that these people have very close to the idea about photographic memory.

They are not shot together. When we see Derren it is over the shoulder of what we are led to believe is this fella and we see Derren without obvious ear piece but he can have shot this afterwards and in the actual recording of their conversation it might have been more obvious to the keen observer.
