The trombonist besides the horn player that is laughing at the blacksmith (0:35) actually came to visit my elementary school one time. He was one of the funniest musicians ive ever met. He sadly passed away some years back. I sometimes still think about that man, when i see performances of Andre. His name was Ruud Merx

You are absolutely right, this video is from 1996 and is a TV recording of a concert, it has been rehearsed to perfection of what was then humor novelty was presented by Andre Rieu and his Johan Strauss orchestra.
In 1995 his big breakthrough nationally and internationally followed quickly, he has more often introduced antics in the performance of musical pieces to make classical more light and reach a larger audience to let his music be heard.

We actually kept an anvil on a stand in my high school band room because sometimes music calls for an anvil. We never used it in the four years I played percussion at my school, but it certainly was fun to whack with a hammer every now and then! Oddly musical for being huge chunks of metal made for forging horseshoes
