Im Replacing The Timing Chain On My VW Polo 1.2 Tsi But It's Not As Easy As Thought!

  • I've never replaced a timing chain before so this is a massive challenge, especially on a neglected 1.2 tsi engine. As I delve deeper into the engine I'm finding more problems. Can I actually pull it off and replace the timing chain or is the engine knackered.
    Hopefully, I can pull it off and actually fix the engine faults, The EPC and Engine light are on, but The engine has a misfire, Is the timing chain stretched or is it knackered.

    Mate.. get rid of those pipes infront of the cam wheel/pulley that are constantly in the way. And for the love of god, support the engine and remove that engine mounting. Your life will become so much easier. Well done for trying and taking it on.

      I was thinking the exactly same thing

      Yeah you’re right but I was trying to minimise the amount of parts to remove including draining the coolant system. Hopefully 🤞 there’s no more issues

      I was too but didn’t want the extra work lol 😂

      Sometimes it's much easier to add a bit more work than to struggle. Draining and refilling the cooling system is no trouble and won't take long. Having the ability to raise and lower the engine a little with a jack (I realise the sump is off so you'll have to be creative) will help you. For example, your gun would probably have undone that crankshaft pully bolt. Unfortunately you lost all the torque by using an extension. I'm enjoying watching but it pains me to see you struggle when you don't need to. I will always do a little more work if it means less struggling. What I will add though, your attention to detail and trying your best are great qualities. You do good work, so well done. Hat's off to you.

    smash tensioner, then use molegrips to loosen, only way i can think of tbh, or easy out bolt extractor

      Thanks for the advice I don’t really want to break anything if I can help it but a nice big sledgehammer might do the trick lol 😂

    Nightmare! That car is fighting you every step of the way! Look forward to the next video, keep up the good work. The time spent editing shows too, strong work!

      I’m hoping it’s going to be a cracking car when it’s finished if I don’t scrap it first lol. I’m glad you enjoyed the video I’m trying new things and getting a little bit more confident on camera, it always looks like I’m in a mood lol 😂

    Same as someone else posted...smash /break the tensioner guide, then use the "irwin" type rounded nut remover to remove the "m "bolt...youve got the tools...just apply the right knowledge.. good luck to you, you will get it sorted😊

    • @eamon724
      @eamon724 Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah break off the guide and use a stud extractor, the type that goes over the stud like a socket

    Brilliant video as always mate, thank you so much!! 👍 Love how honest your videos are. When you watch some other videos it’s edited to make it look like a piece of cake & makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong when you’re struggling. I really really admire you mate!!! I do a lot more mechanical work on cars after being inspired by you, thank you so much!! Why don’t they just use ordinary bolts instead of torx etc?! 🤦‍♂️ I swear it’s done intentionally so you’ll round them off forcing you to buy new ones every time they’re taken out!! All the best to you & the family mate 🙏 Best of luck with the Audi 🙏🤞

    smash the guide mate and try irwin bolt extractor hammered on to it, or if you can get a jack hammer with a new sharp chisel to spin it have to be careful just like a air hammer
