- When Gylfie, the female barn owl at Fotherdale, lost her partner in October I was worried for the future of my resident barn owls. But Gylfie wastes no time in searching for a new mate.

Barn owl looking for romance
But she wasted no time in searching for a new mate and over the course of the next few weeks had several eligible bachelors. I watched on my nest cameras as several suitors tried to impress her with displays and even attempted to touch beaks with her.
Mystery barn owl on the scene
But none of these new owls seemed to impress her until one day a mystery male barn owl appeared on the scene. His approach was to settle into a nest box and call for her.
But the new male barn owl is a little shy
But when she responded to his calls he seemed a little nervous, even hopping away from her when she tried to touch beaks. This male was obviously keen, but very new to the barn owl dating scene.
Barn owl courtship
It was amazing to see these early stages of barn owl courtship on the nest cameras and before long the new male was getting the hang of it and I witnessed some tender interactions. Before long the pair began checking out new nest sites, a sure sign that they were now looking ahead to next year's breeding season.
Mystery male's identity revealed
I noticed that this male wore an identification ring so I decided to investigate his origins. Each ID ring is unique and it didn't me long to work out that this barn owl was a male I had actually rehabilitated here at Fotherdale the previous year.
A Fotherdale rescue
The records showed that this was one of four chicks rescued from a barn in Scarborough and given to me by Ryedale Rehabilitation to release a year ago. He had been just a small ball of fluff when he arrived and I had had to act as a surrogate parent to him. And now here he was having survived last year's winter and establishing himself here at Fotherdale as a new breeding owl.

She was just so used to having the total badass of a mate that Barney was. That's why she scared the little fella at first so she had to go a bit more gentle with him so he could feel better about himself.

While it's sad we don't know what happened to the great father, partner and mate Barney was to Gylfie I'm happy she won't be alone this winter holiday and is finding love in this new male.
Amazing to know you helped him grow and now he'll become possibly important for barn owl conservaton.

I'm surprised that Gylfie chose him considering how inexperienced he is, but maybe it has something to do with him being rehabilitated. It'll mean that he was probably born much further away than the other local owls and therefore maybe he is more distantly related.

The saying is, Once bitten, twice shy.
I find this romance of Gylfie and Finn undeniably alluring and always charming. I TY REF (and Jean) for the rich history that you keep on all your wildlife, especially rescue, rehab and release ones. If you'd not done this, I'd never known Finn's roots or be able to revisit him. I appreciate and adore Finn in so many ways. I find myself in some sort of resolution of his loss but never forgotten. His legacy will thrive on through his three owlets. May he continue to soar high until we all meet again as Gylfie recovers and, hopefully, finds a new partner. They are a dynamic couple in this most amusing and amazing vid. 🦉🦉🐥🐥🐥💕

Amazing! So when Finn matured enough to feel Nature's call to find a mate, he basically went Home to find a girlfriend?! Kind of like taking your new spouse and moving back into the house you grew up in to bring up your kids!

Barn owls are the preferred choice of birds to be used as a vehicle in a possessive way to scout someone or something of interest by the anunnaki, as it resembles their appearance as a bird like creature with big black eyeballs. By chance if you see a barn owl trailing you or hanging around your home and paying too much attention to you as if you are what it typically eats, then i suggest you prepare yourself for what may come in the next few days/weeks, especially if you're in an isolated area.
And now they have 2 babies together ❤️

What comes to mind is hummingbirds flying enmasse across the Gulf of Mexico. Who would have thought? Or perhaps they have been carried around the world by mankind for pest control or some other reason?

Ya know, it seems with me, I always fall for the females that are oddballs or trouble -maker. I never fall for the one who looks good on paper, the one your mom would love to see you bring home The heart wants what it wants. When I was just starting out in the love scene, there was a girl that like me. She fit my typical likes, (a chubby brunette with long hair) Man, she looked so good on paper. Her folks were well off, professionals in Raliegh. They had a beach house at Emerald Isle, near where I'm from. I grew up, the oldest of seven kids, and we all lived in a single wide trailer. To give you an idea, my youngest sister's 'bed' was the bathtub. She'd dry it out, put in a foam padding, and slept there. Us boys used the other bathroom or went outside. ANYWAY, to me, this girl was RICH. We dated, and I tried to like her, but I just couldn't. I just couldn't. It broke my heart breaking up with her. She was a nice person, with nice parents, and RICH. The heart know what it wants.
