Part of a 1974 edition of The Golden Shot hosted by Charlie Williams. Carl Wayne sings his new single San Diego.(Check out the audience!) Alright me old flower? COPYRIGHT ATV NETWORK LIMITED.
Ah my Mum was pulled out the audience on the Golden Shot show when she was a teenager and ended up winning a cool record player. I'm trying to find the episode with her on! Her names Bernadette if anyone finds it, msg me please. :)
Hardly any of The Golden Shot exists in the archives - it was live, and hardly anything that went out live was recorded - even a lot of stuff that got recorded got wiped - a pity, as it would be interesting to see yourself or an older - probably now deceased- friend or relative on a show like this! Even shows like Opportunity Knocks and New Faces, whilst not being broadcast live, the tapes were never kept - if they were, they could be screened today, and, using the modern day resources like Facebook and Twitter, or texting, the audience of today could vote for the act that they would have liked to have seen more of - wouldn’t necessarily have won, as it’s a repeat from the 60s and 70s - Opportunity Knocks relied on public voting by snail mail and New Faces had a panel of experts including Arthur Askey, Ted Ray, Tony “Hatchet Man” Hatch and Mickie Most, the man behind RAK Records - nevertheless, a vote could be taken amongst the modern audience and the result broadcast ahead of the next show - but, no, all old material was wiped - but, if you can get your head around Hughie Green’s obsequiousness, you might see some acts that would win them today, plus early appearances by acts that never won, but became successful despite not winning - one act, billed at the time as The Singing Harper Brothers, did not win - but, having changed their collective name to Cannon & Ball, they became successful - but it was a long time coming!
Bob Monkhouse was (wrongly) taken off the Golden Shot in January 1972 for accepting a gift from a Wilkinson Sword rep, which was a photography book. The audience figures dropped over the next two years and he was brought back to present the 1974/5 series, on provision that ATV took up the option on Celebrity Squares.
@alijanlondon It's a very compelling story actually. This video documents how events all came about, it's taken from a brilliant documentary titled "The Secret life Of Bob Monkhouse"..... watch?v=HKEg9Oe-Sfk
This Challenge TV showing must be one of the only episodes still in existence. Bob Monkhouse replaced Charlie Williams shortly afterwards. Golden Shot finally ended it's 8 year run March, 1975. It' funny seeing the ladies in the audience obviously realising they're on TV.
"Go away and rest your trigger finger". I wish I could say that to some cricket umpires !
a crossbow bolt on a quiz show, health & safety would shit themselves today.
"The TWO-HUNDRED pound jackpot!" The things one could do with that kind of money, way back in the Seventies!
I wonder if Ann Aston said that to her husband up a bit ,left a bit,FIRE !!!!!😂😂
she said river looks like a swimming pool to me!!!

@mukatuna And it's since emerged that all the Bob Monkhouse eps are still in existence and had been in Bob's shed for thirty years!

Given that Bob Monkhouse started the Golden Shot, was he brought back to try and save it from poor ratings?
The first host of the Golden Shot was actually Jackie Rae, not Bob Monkhouse.
@@trevordance5181 Really? I was a very young kid when it started, so probably missed the first few

Is that Sci Fi music they are playing in that game?
Sounds like something from a Gerry Anderson production seeing it’s made by ATV then could be as all the Anderson hits were by ATV/ITC
