I wish nintendo still cared about their old consoles
same
Or at least offer backwards compatibility...
How did I get da most liked comment lol
@Rick Jess no, not wii games, they were compatible on the Wii u but not on the switch even though they put Wii u specific games on there too
Hey if you have a Wii u or a Wii you should jailbreak it trust me you can do so much if you want to you can ask questions about jailbreaking win u or Wii
I think if they called this "Wii 2" instead of "Wii U" it would have made a huge difference. This is a completely new console with Wii backward compatibility and I don't think a lot of people got that. This system is completely on par with the Switch in terms of graphics and performance. It's awesome, I love it, and it is really a damn shame so many people will never be able to experience it. I will never get rid of mine.
Well I don't mind the name, it's the marketing that I was worried about, those commercials were some of the cringiest commercials you will ever see. Trust me, I know Nintendo had to resort to that sort of marketing but thing is, they didn't need too.
I think the best way to make a Wii U campaign, is what they did with the Wii. The two men in black make a return but they say this, they say "This is how U, will play Next", and then maybe there will be a sign that everything was alright. Plus it should be people playing the game, and just having fun, not kids trying to be cool and fit in with the young crowd.
1. How U will Play Next (2012-2013)
2. There is no Play Like It (2013-2017)
You see where I'm going with this?
I still don’t know what the newest Xbox is called but I’m sure that is selling fine
@@thechampagneroom1 Not so sure about that one ;)
The newest ones are the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X
They should've named it a Wii switch
still a great console. natively plays WiiU/Wii/Gamecube games and emulates NES and SNES excellently. Hell, its worth it for wind waker hd and twilight princess hd since Nintendo still hasn't ported those over to switch (grumble, grumble).
Man, these zelda games would be switch-made. Wind Waterworld literally be perfect and I've always wanted to play twilight princess myself
@@rainy5517 twighlight princess was a very good game. I’m sure when you get it one day you will love it
@@carlsagan2607 I've watched a thousand let's plays when I was younger. I'm sure I'm gonna love playing it, just much as I loved watching other people play it
@@rainy5517 i had it on the GameCube and it was good then. I’d imagine the hd remaster is a breath of fresh air.
@@carlsagan2607 lmao I meant to write wind waker in my first comment! My brother used to own a game cube. We loooved to play Mario kart
I'd say the console itself will slowly rise in price over the next few years because of its popularity for homebrew and playing Wii games. The games themselves will stay cheap for a few years until like 2030-ish when people want to rebuy their childhood and Wii Us get rare and expensive. This is why I've been building up my Wii U library with the goal of getting a full set within the next 2-3 years.
Exactly, i think its gonna be just like the gamecube. It sold very bad. So its also gonna be more rare.
@@strongandbigman
True
The gamepads themselves are almost as expensive as being the console, a lot of them have begun to break and to my knowledge Nintendo hardly ever sold them separately so they themselves will shoot the Wii u up in price.
@@cheerioz1848
True. I have 3 Wii U’s and two of them don’t have functional GamePads anymore.
I just got a Wii U this week and it's awesome
holy I see you everywhere!!!
@@Severely_Hurt_Simp I leave a lot of comments lol. Nice to see ya

Did You Mod It?
@@MarillFan69 no I don't mod my consoles
The Wii U is brilliant. My kids are playing Yoshi Wooly World right now, they also love splatoon, also Mario 3D world and the New mario Bros. The games look great on our 42" 4K LG Oled even from a couple of feet away. The fact one of you can play on the gamepad screen and the other on the TV for two player local splatoon is brilliant. Much better than the switch. We have 4x Nintendo switch and they do like them but the big TV fun of the Wii U keeps them very happy. Great console. Pick one up and a whole bunch of physical games. Your money is relatively safe. Play for a few years and keep it or sell it for what you paid for it. Couldn't recommend enough.
hey. My son and myself are playing on my old super nintendo. I was looking into the WII U as it looks like a fun console. We dont have a switch. Would you put your money in a wii U or a switch right now?
@@matriskie well, a switch is a better long term solution. Personally I'd only buy second hand, be selective, make sure and pick up something very well cared for. If you are wise you could buy a second hand Wii U and a second hand switch V2 for the same price as a new switch. The switch can come with you too which is great. However a cheap Wii U from a second hand Craigslist or gumtree and a few games would hardly cost much and give you all loads of fun. We have played mario 3d world, mario kart 8 and now playing Mickey power of two on the Wii U. All great to be played coop on one Wii U. We also played Splatoon one where you can again play two player on the single console with just one extra Pro controller. My kids have switches and I have Wii U. Both are played regularly. So switch is a more long term prospect but I'd never discount the option of a cheap Wii U and some of the best games. Hope some of that helps. If you want more advice just ask some more specifics and I'll let you know my view. Cheers
Hey Steven, thank you so much for your inside. I will go for a second hand wii U. once the switch 2 drops Ill get us a cheap switch. We will have plenty to play on the Wii U in the meanwhile as the games are cheap. @@stevenross-watt8640
The Switch is what the WiiU should have been but couldn't be fiscally speaking due to Nintendo understandably not wanting to cannibalize the success of the 3DS. Great machine tho, the gamepad and sensor bar was a great niche for it in quite a few of its natively supported games as well as some of its homebrew. You can go straight from the TV to the toilet without having to pause. Once modded you have a pretty powerful Nintendo time machine for your modern HDMI TV too. Hardware wise it was pretty much a overclocked Wii which in turn was a overclocked Gamecube so it was pretty much like gaming on upgraded original hardware for those platforms. Emulation for 90's era games was pretty solid too.
If you ask me the Wii U was ahead of it's time. The Wii was in its time cuz of motion controls, the Wii U was ahead of it's time because of it's functionality and services. Sure the 360 & PS3 had similar services a few years prior but the Wii U had them built-in and intenegrated with the console. Not to mention all of the innovations of the gamepad itself that was innovative for 2012 and led directly to the Switch 5 years later.
When two of the best Mario games are near-identical rereleases and the new Zelda game looks indistinguishable from the 10 year old system, yes, it's still worth it.
I’m definitely getting a Wii U if they don’t port Wind Waker, Twilight Princess HD to Switch.
i remember having this as a wee lad, so nostalgic. i remember playing wario ware on it with my brother :)
Wi Lad And Wi Lassie.
I picked up a Wii U today from a retro game store for $140. Workers were really nice and let me see if everything worked before buying it. Def gonna go back to buy games for it
Yesterday when i was at a driftstore i found a brand new unopened Wii u in original box so i bought it immediately
That's a huge win congrats man hope your enjoying the Wii U I'm new as well and I have to say it's good to be back lol.
Used to play the Wii everyday and it's back wards compatible with every Wii game. I wish I got it sooner to buy the virtual console games ): but the bright side the 3ds has ocarina of time and Majoras mask remade so I'm happy
@@TheFallenSithMasterIt's funny because it was in the news that 1 new Wii U was sold in 2023...OP is famous in the Wii U community and doesn't even know it.
It’s only worth it to play games that haven’t been ported to switch. The ESHOP is now closed which sucks massively for games that rely on DLC/updates (Xenoblade X).
So if you are fine with playing ok games, buy it NOW. This console will follow the similar path as the Sega Saturn and will go up in price in 5 years (similar to the PS Vita).
You want to play games that are not ok?\
Is it a good idea to get one in December since the eshop is now closed? If you don’t already have games how would you get them?
Any console with backwards compatibility is worth it…Nintendo is known for having amazing games in each of their consoles that are tournament worthy too so it comes down to playing your favorite titles
I never owned one but it looks really good and comfortable to hold.
Both the Wii U gamepad and Pro controller are great abd super comfortable.
It is especially if you hack it…. You can literally play almost all Nintendo games on the Wii U, excluding the 3DS… and maybe the virtual boy. But you can play Nes, Snes, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy advance, N64, GameCube, DS, Wii and obviously Wii U. I even found out how to download free full Wii U games. I mean I don’t see an issue with it anymore due to Nintendo closing the Wii U and 3Ds Eshops. So pirate and hack away. It’s considered abandonwear at this point. Just a quick google search or a search on CZcams will show you how to hack or soft mod consoles. I’ve hacked over 5 separate consoles now (Wii, Wii U, Psp, Ps Vita, PS2, DS. Im about to hack my 3Ds and OGXbox soon too.
Bro I was scrolling through the nitendo wii u game list and nostalgia just hit me so hard with the classic i still don't get why wii u is considered bad
The next Nintendo needs to be dual screen like the wii u.
So my familly has had a wii u since 2013, and i have a lot of fond memories of playing games like wii party u, mario party 10, new super mario bros u, and many other games, including wii games. i was so surprised when i found out people had hated this console, it was a great console.
Man I’m so mad the eShop is closing because we are losing so many games and Nintendo Minute videos on there.
Can you get games from other places besides GameStop?
I hope the next Switch isn't so wide with the controls. Always afraid of dropping it.
I bought a Wii U about two years ago out of pure curiosity and, while I love it, I can also understand why it failed. It feels like a very scattered console full of ambitious ideas that are unfortunately too disconnected. They had the right idea, but the wrong execution for the mass market. That being said, I personally love the console. I have it in my living room and use it for party games mostly with friends. I also stream CZcams from it occasionally.
I bought a used one recently and it's on the way, I got a Wii first but since I can use this instead I just decided to replace my Wii with this since it can do Wii games and more!
I didn't know about this thing until I went over to a friend's house relatively early it it's life. It was literally the only time I heard about it. It was discontinued before I went out and got my own. Real banger as a dead discontinued console. Can't say it would have been bad at launch, pretty ok I guess but now it is a great buy and doesn't really show it's age because of what it is.
It's great for me as a guy who never had a nintendo product past Game Boy and a good gaming PC. Fills a place a ps5 or a switch would be relatively pointless. Has streaming capabilities from your PC too.
As for this should have been a portable like the switch... well yeah maybe but the DS wasn't the only reason not to do it. The portable power just wasn't where it needed to be which is just a touch more powerful than the last generation of the day (which describes the wiiU). A lot of people complain about the WiiU gamepad's battery life but that's the state of battery technology at that time, trying to drive a full console would have been even worse. The sort of power you see in the switch just didn't exist in 2012, the Nvidia Jetson line that enabled the switch to exist wouldn't even get a dev kit until 2014 and wouldn't get consolized until 2015 with the release of the shield.
Personally as a dead console I like it as an overpowered Wii with a gamepad option I can move around my house.
I'm having more fun on my recent wii u purchase than my xbox x. Nintendo know how to make fun games😂
I wish that Nintendo brings back the 3DS.
If you don’t have a switch hell yeah the Wii U is worth it. The modding community is at it’s peak right now and the Wii U is litterly a beast, it plays all nintendo games (except for 3DS and switch) play sega, psp and even PS1! Not only that there are so many games that were ported to the switch
I love my Wii U so much so I started a channel devoted to it 😅
I subscribe
@@Jcoolbird thank you
It's sad that the OG Splatoon servers are down.
I’m still going to buy the Wii U because I need it for my collection
Cheers. I just bought one. Because I got three Wii's last month. Because I got a Steam Deck the month before and was using Batocera and then found out I could play light gun games again. So i tried to get a sensor bar and wii mote and it turns out complete wii systems are dirt cheap now - the first one was 12USD, then I got another two trying to get more wiimotes (one of the wii motes from the first set was dead) - I didn't realise that the seller had 2 consoles - there was a big pile of stuff, and he said that they didn't know if it worked, 25usd. Finding out about home brew and usb loaders was fun, but the 480p limit wasn't great. Today I got a wii U (base and gamepad) for a whopping 70USD. I came here because I'm not sure what the parts of the console are - two screens (when you connect to a TV) with the same info, why? Is the base where all the processing power is, so the gamepad is just a screen/ controller? LOL. I'm looking forward to playing around further.
I still got my Wii U I’m keeping mines
The best console Nintendo made is the Wii u. With a mod Wii u can play anything from Nintendo. Before switch
Got one for free from my job. It came with a couple games which is pretty cool.
BRING BACK THE Wii U
I'm planning on buying a second Wii U so my sister's kids can play my physical games collection. Does it ask to create a Nintendo ID Network or a Nintendo Account? I heard Nintendo ID Network won't exist after March 2024. Should I buy my Wii U now?
You don't need to make a Nintendo ID account. You can't download games anymore anyways.
@@Chelaximnusspli
I think that the wiiu is worth buying some of the exclusive games are more fun than the Nintendo switch in my opinion!
@Mr Wii Agreed!
I love my Wii 2
Only worth buying if it has the game pad and the nand isn’t SK Hynix.
Hello, nice evening and a cool video.
My name is Hagen in from Germany and I think buying the cousine but anybody know is there still a online Multiplayer abd an online Store/Shop ?
The Wii U opened the door for the Switch. Switch wouldnt exist without it. You can tell they were already thinking about going hybrid with the gamepad. The ideas we're there. I do miss a dedicated Nintendo console tho like Gamecube.
GameCube was special and easy to put, together I'll miss it
The Wii U is like the PS Vita, they both just came out at really bad times. If they came out at any different stage they would be doing great right now.
Can anyone give me the best link to mod this 8gb version, only things I've ever modded is a few PS Vitas
"Lowest selling console at that time"
The Virtual Boy at only 800,000 units compared to the Wii U at 14,000,000:
Now that was a console that was waaaay ahead of its time.
Virtual Reality either didn’t exist yet or was an absolutely horrible gimmicky mess in the mid 90’s. Not to mention, it was near impossible to sell to the consumer demographic of the time, who viewed video gaming solely as an activity for kids.
If Nintendo had held off and made the Virtual Boy by today’s technology standard, it would have done so much better.
@@anthonywestover5326
True. If they waited long enough to make it color and give it a headstrap and release it in like the 2000s it would have done better.
*at the time*
@@User-jeheixuwk
Virtual Boy came out years before the Wii U did, but he might just be talking about the 2010s.
Possibly a new version of any console from Nintendo in the future and beyond should have a totally new new name that makes it feel different to the mainstream consoles and the name should have a more down to earth name, and this name could be something that has a AI effect as is core and gameplay and self awareness in the machine, in other words the name change is from it past to its future based on one of it Nintendo characters. A Nintendo console with a name and it teaches itself to challenge the player. Mario Uii! Which is a Switch and Wiiu combo, same style and look but very different inside the console. AI GAMEPLAY and self-discovery that can be linked to any device or laptop or other nintendo consoles old and new via wifi and cloud storage, and nintendo has to give older units a little help?
The eShop closed end of March, so yeah.
I hope something will change in nintendos sales going down so they put in more effort and have cheaper games that are good
me personally, I’ve never met someone with a white WII U
The Wii U was amazing, idc what anyone says. The only thing that held it back was poor advertising
Honestly, you should have named the video what I learned from the Wii U is, because you said almost nothing about the Wii U's features. All you did was talk about what Nintendo learned from the Wii U. You never even showed the Wii U's menu.
Specific. ..not pacific.. lol .and gamecube was great..still is..still play mine. ... :)
I still play my Wii U
I know Wii U but I haven’t have it😢
Didn't put that game wii you out.
Everybody crying about their nostalgia while I just got off of SM4SH.
I love your voice
The Nintendo switch has some great games on it don't get me wrong but after playing the Wii U for a couple days I would prefer this over it and have the switch for portable only.
There's 1,000 Wii games plus Wii u and used to be virtual console as well
i wish to have a wii u
I worked at GameStop over the holidays in 2012. I’m fairly knowledgeable in the world of tech, especially regarding video games and I had no idea that this thing existed. I saw a strange looking Wii box over the registers and I asked my manager what it was. He said “Oh it’s the new Wii.” I was like, “Is it some sort of expansion for the Wii?” and he said “Nah man, it’s Nintendo’s new console.” I was shocked. Nintendo did not market this console well at all. The tablet/console hybrid thing wasn’t implemented well either, but it has some cool games. It’s just a weird ass console. Very awkward to use and set up.
Wii U + Switch Lite is the best combo.
I don't care if people call this a failure
the wii u is great and whoever hates me hates me idfc
I like it
A perfect example of getting your naming right. Whichever idiot decided wii u was good they didn't bankrupt the company. Imagine it was called something proper it could have been a total different story. The whole planet had no idea what this was. I think nearly everybody thought it was an accessory, not a next gen console
❤❤❤wii u Was the only console I loved With.the n64 gameube ds dsi 3ds and even 2ds But for the switch, I hate that s***, I'm really mad at Nintendo why they changed it. You know What screw Nintendo for it This is why I prefer using the xbox Serires x better then the switch
An underrated system with some awesome games...Super Mario 3D World is still the best 3D Mario game since Super Mario 64.
Why are you whispering 😂
Didn't watch the whole thing, as ... well, this claims to be a review that answers the question of if the Wii U is still worth buying in 2023, yet it spends at least 5 out of its 9 minutes talking about just general background information about the console and why it ended up flopping - and in a drawn-out and rather uninformative way while the video just shows you toying with the GamePad and some games with no direct relation to what you're talkinga about at all. This ought to have been the first 1-2 minutes of the video, max. Some constructive criticism: work on scripting your videos, making sections like that more concise and to the point, so that you can get useful information across to your viewers. There is so, so, so much more to be said on this subject, but this video really isn't what the title promises.
4 wii u now 3 black 1 white
Even the Wii U gamepad looks better than that garbage Playstation Portal console. 😅😅😅😅
I love the Wii U in fact, I was born in 2012
By December 2019, Nintendo reported life-time sales of 13.56 million units..............thats brutal
Only 1 new Wii U was sold in 2023. Which is sad on it's own the fact that the Wii U was discontinued in 2017 means that brand new Wii U that was sold this year was sitting on store shelves for longer than the Wii U was supported.
@Chelaxim nintendo switch 2 end of 2024 seems pretty much good to go. I'm expecting the reveal march 2024
Dude everything this guy says his backwards he's wrong On everything.... The wii u was definitely ahead of this time... That's why the second system that came out Was a more advanced....wii u... And why does this guy sound like somebody's constantly telling him Lower your voice....
Switch is a better deal
no its not
The Switch is good, but it fails to capture the magic that the Wii U had
Is black ops 2 servers still up lol
Apple
What with you monitor, it’s TERRIBLE and the screen tearing is ATROCIOUS
QUICK someone give me their Wii U
It was never worth buying
This console sucks and gamecube is the best.
Wii U is definitely a bad console. It shouldn't even be compared to the GameCube because the GameCube at least still has games people play to this day. Wii U games are mostly ported to the Switch, so there's no reason to go back to. GameCube games still don't get rereleases very often, so more people go back to it constantly.
GameCube has a legacy. It's still being remembered. Why? Because it did new things. Wii U on the other hand tried to be a better Wii and it failed miserably. Sure, the Switch may have similarities with the Wii U with the Game Pad, but that's where the similarities end. The Switch did its own thing and it worked. Probably too well. It wasn't piggybacking the success of its predecessor or tried to mimick anything. It created a new market and we're seeing that with the Steam Deck, and countless other Switch alternatives.
Overall, Wii U is just bad outright. No legacy, bad gimmicks, failed to continue the legacy of the Wii, and will just be forgotten. Hell, people still don't know what a Wii U is.
@@Sammy_1992That’s an insult to people with 70 iq
How can you say the Wii U has no legacy because all of its games have been ported over, but yet you praise the GameCube for rarely getting ports? In all actuality all of those vita and Wii U ports the switch has proved that those systems had great libraries the whole time.
Also 90 percent of the best GameCube games have been ported lol. Other than super smash brothers melee,F Zero GX,Fire Emblem Path of Radiance ,Pokémon Collesuim,Pokémon XD,Eternal Darkness and Chibi Robo...what reason do you have to go back to the GameCube?
@@Chelaxim
Wii U only had like five good games. Their Switch counterpart are the superior way to play.
GameCube still has a more beloved legacy because of what it tried to be. Wii U tried hard to be better than Wii, and it failed.
