I've seen his type before. Flashy, making the scene, flouting convention. Maybe that's how he gets his kicks, him and his good time buddies!
Well I got a flash for ya, joy boy!
@@jenmck8146 You put on a pair of shoes when you walk into The New York Public Library, Mister!
Pee pees and wee wees!
Has Seinfeld bought any Folgers instant coffee with all that NBC money?
@@justinmacdonald321 Its freeze dried!
I give it nine seasons.
Doubt he'll ever make more than a million per episode
"It's a basic situation comedy." -Jerry, underestimating the impact this show would have on television and pop culture.
It proved definitely sponge-worthy.😂
@@patriciamorgan6545 I like to say salsa.
@@Itsmytest I must have somehow missed that episode.
@@patriciamorgan6545 it’s the one where Jerry and George come up with the idea for the NBC pilot.
@@Itsmytest Ah, yes. I did see that one. Just don't recall the salsa reference.
Dave: "That looks pretty good."
Nailed it.
Prettay prettay good
Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. The Lennon and McCartney of TV sitcoms.
Yup. One bespectacled genius and the other a charming chap that gears towards the corny schmaltz.
@@cactaceous Well stated. 👍
@cactaceous I just laughed my ass off at that brilliant schmaltz routine he just did there.
"Show room speed"..
"It's just a weatherproof chair out on the highway"...
..youre a comedy dunce
@@cactaceous Hey, can't you even count? The show was brilliantly funny because of TWO Comedy Geniuses!
Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!
@@Bootrosgali A dunce and he doesn't have much of a sense of humor. A Sad fellow.
No show in the history of television has ever had a four episode pickup. Don't know how much potential it can have...
I don't know man... he's a comedian, not an actor... this show will be cancelled after the pilot for sure
😂😂😂 nice
I hope it's about something...
No way. NBC ordered 4 episodes. They paid for them, they're going to show them.
This would rank right up there with some of my favorite real-life bad predictions: "Don't buy Google at its initial public offering." (Washington Post financial columnist Allan Sloan, August 2004) ; "Apple should pull the plug on the iPhone." (Tech columnist John C. Dvorak, March 2007). 🤡
That’s funny, BUT it was ALMOST cancelled after Season 1 because ratings were pretty low. In fact, it came really close to getting the axe. But they decided to give it another chance, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Look up the DVD commentaries on the pilot and the first season. They're freely available on CZcams. It's hilarious to see everyone's wildly different reactions to the four-episode season order.
-Michael Richards thought the executives were probably doing someone a favour.
-JLD thought it was unusual but was just glad to have some work.
-Jason Alexander thought it was prudent to keep renting his NYC apartment.
-LD complained that doing the pilot had been bad enough; how was he going to do four more?
-Jerry Seinfeld was absolutely confident that the show would be fine from now on.
Also a shoutout to NBC exec Rick Ludwin who took money out of his specials budget to fund the four episodes. He was also the one who championed the show throughout its first three seasons when it was a critical darling but hadn't yet built a massive audience. Without him, there would be no Seinfeld beyond the pilot. RIP, Mr Ludwin.
A great friend often tells me a famous quote by Churchill: "when you're going through hell, keep going". This synopsis you wrote is brilliant and proves one thing: never give up. You never know what's on the other side. This was great to read.
A very happy 70th birthday to Jerry Seinfeld. 🙂
That number is unbelievable!
Any update on how the show did?
It came and went. They only made four episodes, and only two of those were aired. A complete dud. If memory serves.
@@allendracabal0819 😂😂
It was a show about four morons, sitting around a table, whining about their dates - because that's all you ever see on TV! Then it's like a jingle you can't get out of your head. Before you know it, it's: "By Mennen"!
Rough first couple seasons
Sounds moderately promising…let’s see how the show does.
Nobody's going to care outside of New York.
All these comments just go to show you what an impact this show ultimately had. So many phrase coinages entering the lexicon of popular culture. Thanks, Jerry!❤
I don’t know how they’re gonna write all those shows.
What writing, we’re talking about a sitcom.
The Seinfeld Chronicles first appeared on NBC in 1989, but it was like most people didn’t even know the show existed until about 1993.
One episode called "The Seinfeld Chronicles" aired in 1989. The airing Jerry is promoting here was a 4-episode run that aired almost 11 months later. NBC had declined to pick up the show in 1989, but one of the executives eventually decided to give it another chance with 4 more episodes.
Now I want to see the clip they showed...
It’s ep3 I think. Jerry’s apartment got robbed while he was doing an away show, bc one of them left the door open, and Jerry was telling them about his new lock system, and Jerry says “there’s just one problem with it. The door”
*pushes door with one finger just enough to close it”
“has TO BE CLOSED”
@@demitasse22”MUST BE CLOSED!” *** there ya go
As a man, I’m currently wondering what else is on TV…
What’s the deal with these people who comment on old videos of young upcoming celebrities and then make predictions about their future careers? I mean c’mon, how many times can someone post a comment about the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and say “hey, I think these Brits are going places”.
It never gets old
@@owenrees7544No, that would be dead child stars. They never get old.
It's one thing for one person to say it but when multiple people do it, it's nauseating. I've never once read one comment like that and said, hey, let me make a similar comment too. hardy har har. smh People are idiots these days.
I think you’re going places.
I think that situation-comedy is going to take off 🤤
I give it 9 seasons with an ending that will leave everyone speechless.
😂
A lot of Jerry's "observational" comedy seems very quaint and mainstream now but back then it was innovative and refreshing.
Wow! To look back at that moment is amazing, knowing now how incredibly brilliant that show was! Arguably the greatest television show , ever!
I’ve been watching Jerry interviews all day…and he’s actually exactly the same today.
Meticulous showman, self deprecating, a little cocky
Can it be 34 years ago? Yep. Still great!
Who knew Seinfeld would be such a huge success. Jerry was so humble back then, still is for the most part. Seen his stand up about 6 months ago. It was really good. Hard to believe this is 34 years ago. Thanks Dave!
Jerry humble? He is one of the most smug comedians out there. He's been obscenely rich for 30 years and has no concept of what "normal" life is.
Why did they cut the clip out? I wanted to see what the show's like.
It was the beginning of what would be (I'm gonna say it) the best sitcom ever made in American television.
I had to listen to Dave's intro a few times. I totally thought he called it The Seinfeld. But that's on me.
I think the original name of the show was "The Seinfeld Chronicles", but the pilot ended up getting that name, and the show was properly called Seinfeld. I wonder if that's what tripped him up? Could've been written on his card? I heard what you did, too.
‘I hope the show is a big hit for you’.. biggest show of all time
You can see here why he needed the brilliantly funny Larry David to make the show work.
That was an Oreo minus the sweet, creamy middle!
You know, Jerry, you should curb your enthusiasm for this new show...
Larry was curbing enough for both of them.
Boy, it felt good being back in the 80's here for 7 minutes. Though I wasn't born yet 😂
This would be 90 or 91

Good luck with the new show, Jerry!!!
"Good seeing you, I hope the show is a big hit for you".
34 years later, this bit is still pretty damn funny! This guys definitely has some potential.
Was watching this and was so excited for the first episode. I knew it would be gold, however it wasn't as well received as I thought it would be.
He looks so fresh and young!
This looks promising, I hope they manage to maintain the quality right through to the finale.
And of course the Van Wick was a subject in an episode.
Rockaway!
No one can beat the Van Wyck!
@@Dina-nm1nx😂, the episode where Elaine and some guy overslept trying like crazy to make the flight to Seattle (?) and her explanation was something to have experienced!!
The Van Wyck is still a nightmare. It runs north-south into JFK.
@@Dina-nm1nxBut I tell you, gentlemen: today, I came as close as anyone ever has. And if it hadn’t been for that five-car pile-up…
I thought he would have mentioned that Seinfeld was supposed to be a show about Nothing, and the stories went from there.
Apparently they only came up with that bit for the episode
It didn't become the "show about nothing" until its fourth season. The original concept was to show how a stand-up comic gets his ideas.
RIP Jerry, geez this is beyond sad. He comes out with a new movie and bam, gone
Yes!! The tradition continues. 😂

Letterman: "I hope the show is a big hit for you"
Unfortunately Seinfeld did not became a big hit, it went on for 9 years only and now is still going on constant reruns because of how unpopular it was.
I bet he makes less than Ted Danson
I've been in a coma for 30 years, did the show make it?
that was a short clip! but very funny
Jerry Seinfeld's whole stand up career is like 90 minutes! He's literally still doing those jokes. I wonder where he would be right now had he not been able to get Larry David to write the show.
0:45 You could always tell Van Jones how much you hate him... close enough.
Awesome!
Larry King will probably interview Jerry about his show in the future!
What’s the show gonna be about?
About...NOTHING!
Yeah, we'll see.
And then the best tv comedy series of all time started.
Ties with Frasier
Bring back the 80s and/or the 90s, please!!! And also, I’d like someone to try to tell me that Jerry’s suit doesn’t look great! Because it looks GREAT! It would still look great in 2024!!
I see great things in store for young Jimmy Seinfeld.
"I hope the show's a big hit for you."
Nobody could've known...
Was that Gerry ever heard from again? Nice fella
Here's Jerry with the edgy lane-changing comedy that would get him cancelled today
Legend. He was funny from the start.
That Seinfeld guy wont ever amount to anything. ;)
Dave --- I hope the shows a big hit for ya --- !!!!
Something tells me this kids gonna make it.
hope his show works out
how did that work out for the young fella?
Wonder how his little show ever turned out?
I’m rarely wrong. This show will get canceled after 1 season.
It’s clear that the real magic was the straight man/funny man combination of Jerry and Larry David.
Stay away from the black and white cookie
Based on that clip, I don't see how it will make it.
RIP jerry
It would have been funny if he put Newhart in the title of the show.
Oh man there was a time before Seinfeld jeez
Idk Jerry...seemes like everybody is doing that "did you ever notice" kind of humor. Good luck standing out from the crowd. You got NOTHING!
It's a shame Jerry's show never caught on. I guess it wasn't a very creative idea to have a stand-up comedian doing stand-up comedy in the middle of a sitcom.
Its the bubbles of nothing that make it really something.
Been popular for many years.
U r the best Jerry
Ok, I might check out this... Seinfield (sp?)
I doubt this show will make it past first season
what show? it’s a sitcom…
Jerry really needed a hit since getting fired from "Benson" after only three episodes.
All jokes that were later used on the show itself.
does anybody recognize the walk-on music?
Day Tripper
Day Tripper by the beatles
Hendrix version is great
@@ArtificialBanana Wrong.
Is it just me, or did it seem that something was missing there?
I assume you are talking about the show clip. The Internet is a different medium than television, and requires separate permissions for airing owned content. It is often easier just to cut out those parts than to bother with the permission process.
Frog? Frog is wrong
I bet he'll make a billion on his new show....
I bet this guy loves Pop Tarts
I give it a year
I bet this guy makes a movie about poptarts
That's a stupid prediction...that will never happen 🙄
As I re-watch Jerry's pre-Seinfeld stuff, and now seeing what he's done post-Seinfeld... one can only deduce that the secret sauce to the show was Larry David, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards and Julia Louis Dreyfus.
It's funny. I remember seeing Jerry do stand up on Letterman and Carson for years before the show, and he had some segments of stand up that were decent but for the most part it was, Meh! Never would of guessed this guy would be the main character in one of the most successful sitcoms in the history of TV. Although in my own personal opinion. I'm still a Cheers guy. Cheers was the greatest.
SEINFELD! FOUR!
Yada Yada Yada
What's the deal with Letterman? The channel posts all these clips with no setup. Seemingly at random. Yet they're always referencing the zeitgeist of the current day. I mean who does this guy think he is, Kreskin?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ hiiiiiiiii dear dave ❤❤❤❤❤ and all good dear friends ❤❤❤❤
Never found his stand up even remotely funny. Great show, though.
It’s about nothing. Never last.
Based on the clip included in the video, I’d say this is a show about nothing.
*Nothing*.
Made as billionaire out of him!
It's about nothing Dave...great Jerry,great.
I have a feeling this show is about nothing...
