Djimi Traore was our MVP that season. He knew our squad couldn't cope with fighting on all fronts, so he deliberately scored an OG in the FA Cup so we would do well in Europe. He even made it look like it was an accident, so didn't get done for match-fixing; what a talented guy. I think that alone inspired our squad to Champions League glory. We couldn't have done it without Djimi.

We never had proper number 7s (RW) or number 11s (LW)
We were also competing with the best ever Manutd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man city, sides and the result is obvious for all to see....
If any hater ever says Gerrard was over rated and was not as good as Scholes, Lampard, Viera etc then i always mention this and it shuts them up.
John Arne Riise was a smashing leftback for us. Sure we had stand-ins in Aurelio and Moreno, but only Robbo since has energised the fans on the left again.
Presume Riise was playing LM because Kewell was injured - probably more productive for us

Baros was such a good player but could never stay fit injuries plagued him
Riise still the greatest left back in Liverpool premier League history. His goalscoring record is amazing. Robbo still needs quite a few more years to overtake him
No robbo is already better. Riise was never as good defensively so that's why he played LW alot
Well, what is left back primary duty?? To defend and assist attack, and robbo really good in those aspect. I like riise too, but he was not good defensively
Aurelio was better when fit Than riise 100% and Robertson has already over taken both
What a clever player Luis Garcia was, one of my favourites in LFC history! It's ashame injuries had such an impact on his career...

Apart from his comical own goal in the FA Cup tie, Traore had a pretty good season. He was superb in UCL semi final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. One of the reasons Chelsea didn't score.

Liverpool 04/05, Never a perfect team. rafa rotated his team almost every game, baros or cisse has never been world class forwards but they worked hard , kewell pasts his prime, gerrard was monstrous that season but of course he would never be able to do it alone, garcia, alonso, riise, carra did well to complimenf gerrard's vision and sublime passes, a team of Liverpool calibre should never rely on biscan, sinama-pongolle, warnock or neil mellor to back those players, but still they won the UCL. What a memorable season.

We had the previous season's Champions League top scorer (Morientes), the previous season's Ligue 1 top goalscorer (Cisse) and the Euro 2004 Golden Boot winner (Baros), yet in some of our biggest games that season we still ended up playing the likes of Sinama-Pongolle, Mellor and Le Tallec up front.

Its frightening to think what the current front 3 ( and the two backs running wide ) would do if provided the service those 2 would offer. Good as the current mids are ... they just aren't in the same class. Really shows off that incisive pass playmaking out of midfield really is the current team's only weakness.
Mixing the best of the two teams, you'd be left with only 3 players playing D ( hendo/fab, DVD, gomez/carra) . But who cares? Those 3 players are great defenders and you'd outscore everyone anyway.
Never realized just how good a LB Risse was, how much of a threat. His ability to finish makes a case for him making the LIV all 21st century team @ LB over robbo.

Don’t judge a team. In the league we were average but don’t forgot we beat a solid bayer in last 16. Juventus has strong team but we got past them. Chelsea were one of best teams no doubt they dominated the league and we scraped past them. Ac Milan had a unreal team and better than us in every way and they even got a 3-0 head start but somehow we got back level and won in a penalty shootouts
