Kuyt is really an unsung hero of Liverpool.. While recalling various former great players of the club we forget to mention him although his contributions too were incredible

@OME ACER atlast somebody who has watched the football during those days ...kuyt had zero productivity in terms of goals not counting his first season..he played in the same position as salah and ended up scoring one solitary goal from open play when torres and Gerrard were on fire and had there been a bit more support from the wings with pace and goals we would have easily won the league as our spine was super with Alonso and mascherano in the middle...
@@nickj7619 Steady on mate. He was never the prolific scorer we were looking for but when we got him, Torres, Kuyt made a big contribution both in goals and chances created. Pretty silly comparing Salah's right-wing position in the ultra-aggressive Klopp side, where he is nearly always the highest player in our attack, to the right-wing position in the pragmatic Benitez, where he wanted his midfielders to just sit and shield rather than press, bringing the wingers back into the midfield. Not the same positions at all.
Kuyt's stamina, work-rate and play style would've been fantastically suited to the team under Klopp.

Kuyt was one of the reasons we didn't win the title when we had a super midfield with Gerrard and torres being the only goalscorers...kuyt was a defensive right striker where you have mo salah scoring 25 plus goals every season and kuyt scoring 2 or 3 goals an entire season..one of his knee and two were penalties if I'm not mistaken...this was his first year were he scored a few goals..

At least he had a great end to his career. Scoring a hat-trick to confirm the dutch league title and lifting it as captain in his final game before retiring.

Will never tire of watching clips of Xabi Alonso. Such a class act. Sorely miss the way he used to casually spray the ball to all ends of the field. Rafa should never have let him go. Was the beginning of the end of that era imo

There hasn't been a home kit as good as this one ever since. Mine still fits me 14 years later 😂 I thank my dad for buying it way too big for me, although back then I was fuming 😂

Savage Child yeah but so were we back in 2010-15/16 or maybe 16/17, in that 7 year period we got to one final and didn’t win whereas united won it and I think if lockdown didn’t happen then they’d have won it again this season.
That *clean* tackle by alonso (1:13). It was as satisfying to watch that as the goal itself.
When Rooney scored a thunderbolt at anfield, that was so satisfying 👍

From what I recall, they were more consistent in 05-06 than 06-7 season. Still did well to get to the Champions League final and finish 3rd in PL again.

On this season I become Liverpool FC fans, I don’t witness Liverpool FC won UCL 2005 but something special about this squad that make me want to support and become fans, I aware of Liverpool FC history achievement is something fans should be proud of. My favourite player this season was Dirk Kuyt very hard working hero just like Robbo today.

What a squad this was... Reina, Arbeloa, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Aurelio, Mascherano, Sissoko, Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia, Bellamy, Pennant, Zenden, Crouch, Kuyt, Fowler... Why did we have to get rid of so many... Just add Torres (and Benayoun for Pennant) and we'd have had an incredible squad.

@Jay Anthony I watch every single min he played for us. He was brilliant, ofcourse he wasn't world class but played his socks of and his technique is very underrated
Robbie Fowler like Michael Owen, peaked super early. Mid 90s Fowler was unstoppable but he was only 19-20 when he was playing his best football.

We weren’t good away this season and lost too many points on the road but still got third.
But Got to Champions League Final and despite being better in rematch than AC Milan they got their revenge.

I love how Rafa built a whole strike force (Kuyt, Crouch, Bellamy and Fowler) piece by piece, until the summer after this season where he said to hell with it and bought Torres.
Then started just Kuyt in the Athens final which we lost. Bellamy and Crouch would have made an impact in that game right from the off.
Crouch showing that the overhead kick was no fluke. Sure he did the same against Galatasary the same season. Gerrard was in his prime these seasons from 05 to 09, sad to see Fowler go at end of this season.
