    EDITING ERROR guys, in the Numbers side of the Video, the colour code for the 70mph, 80mph and 90mph is switched around. It is correct for about 2 seconds before I defaults to its default colours. In a rush to make the upload time to release the video today, I forgo'd the last run through thinking that all was ok.... Sorry for any confusion 👍

    I have never understood why club reviewers obsess about irons being strong. So a 7 iron is jacked...does it really matter? It's just a number on the bottom of the club, and should only impact your game on the first couple of rounds as you get used to the new distances. Just think of it a 6 or 6 1/2 if that makes more sense to you. Or just refer to the loft like we do with wedges. Bottom line is know your distances. For my swing, if this club goes 165 for me when a 6i would do that in my old set, I will simply hit this club instead of a 6 when I need 165, and I will adjust all my other club distances accordingly. The number on the bottom of the club is just that...a number. Loft is what matters.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 5 měsíci +3

      In concept yes you are absolutely right, unfortunately in real life where manufacturers know that distance wins launch monitor wars not functional flight, the strongest loft wins regardless of trajectory and control. Commonly the stronger lofts have meant larger loft gaps between irons to return to a sensible PW loft, which again for medium to faster swing speed golfers leads to irratic and too large distance gaps between irons.... Also when sales are at a premium to a commission based world of fitting, getting a 5 or even 4 to PW set of irons may well mean that they have a nonfunctional long irons.
      Again in concept you are spot on with your thoughts, yet manufacturers are making irons to sell them and so if they can make their 7 iron, which is the most common iron within the custom m fitting environment, longer than any others, the chances are with the sales speak, the longest irons make most of the sales.
      It's a shame as it should be sold on functionality but where there's money involved 🤷
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

      It's all a marketing ploy by the manufacturers to make the consumer feel better about themselves. I can't tell you how many times I have people ask me what iron I hit on a par three and I say a five and then they say they hit a seven to which I said no you hit a five iron with a seven stamped on it.

    Just bought these 5-AW. On the course, each club is about 1 club longer than PXG 0311P, but since I'm short of green 50+%, the extra distance is welcome. Many of us estimate our club distances by the best strikes, not the average mishit. So Callaway outthought our ego. 😅

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Really good to hear you are not readjusting your yardages and then go back to missing so many shots short. So many golfers could easily add half a clubs distance to their thoughts of what club to hit. You've stumbled on the very adjustment most golfers could absolutely do to score better 👍👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci +1

      No not at all, but I think you'd have to think about the shaft choice as the stock steel option isn't very strong. Assuming being a low handicap your swing speed is decent so you may need to look for an option that gives you the shaft choices you require. 👍🏻

    Another good and interesting reveiw. I tried these at a fitting I found then to be too long and shallow for me, I didn't feel I had much control with them either.

    Most of these super strong lofted GI irons are designed to win in the fitting bays.
    For the uninformed, they’ll end up with a set of these that simply won’t work in the real world due to the distance gaps at the low end of their bags and shallow descent angles on the top end for those lower speed players as you stated.

    IMO… I think the OEMs doing it a bit wrong. I understand that they sell Length . But it’s getting ridiculous when you first have a GW. Then you have to add an AW. So for slower swing speed you basically stop at a 7iron, maybe 6. Focus on making longer irons that get the ball in the air. (On the other hand, you can get “hybrid “ irons as long irons replacement )

    Jay top notch as always. One observation or thought on your comments relative to efficiency. Your comments on forgiveness dropping around .05 or .06 as not bad for how poor the miss was. I agree on the surface it seems ok but at these distances we're seeing a loss of 15-20 yards. That to me isn't great where some of the others like P790 or JPX or Mizuno Pro 245 although not quite as long/fast has better drop off also equates to much less drop of yardage. I guess I'm supporting your comment that Callaway needs to make the middle not as fast. Thoughts?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 6 měsíci

      I tend to only talk in efficiency as unless the club head speed is exactly the same and launch conditions then any yardage gain or drop can't be spoken about. With the millions of golf swings and delivery combinations out there, everyones efficiency, yardages etc will be slightly different baseline, but the drops will be very similar so its that point really that I'm trying to convey rather than any specific yardages 👍👍

    I’ve had a medical event that’s robbed me of speed and muscle memory, so needed to get fitted for new irons, my club fitter agreed with you, the face of these irons are too different, middle to miss hit, which makes club selection on approach shots difficult. I have done the work, speed stuff daily, got my swing on plane, but can’t guarantee middle face strikes, so need help, these offer some, but it’s uncontrollable, shame because the concept is good. Think they have jumped before they can walk, me thinks.

      @natebait88 absolutely, there are custom options including lie, loft, length and shaft options so you can change them how you see fit. For higher swing speed players they really should see this as their 5 iron nearly, I definitely goes as far as my 5 iron can and again if the shaft length was matched it absolutely would. It's more so with the modern world of launch monitor distance selling. I can just remember a time when lofts were set so you had 3 wedges in the bag, then 4 and now possibly 5. They are just numbers, yes absolutely but are sold with an undertone of being something that not entirely honest to the buying golfing public. All manufacturers do it and the trend continues 👍🏻
