    Just saw your comment about coffee stir sticks. I have been using then for a while and am simply spraying them with a can of matt black (or whatever colour you like) and cutting them with sprue cutters. Even though the stirrers are hardwood they are thin and don't damage the cutter and it's a single quick cut with a flat end saving a bit of time. Thanks for a great series.

    Thank you for not only creating a lovely build, but for the hard work that you put into the video editing process. I SO appreciate the fact that you've decided to use voice overs - that helps us to understand quickly and easily what it is that you are demonstrating. Many folks don't take the extra time to do this, and it makes all the difference.
    Thanks for inspiring us, and helping folks to gain creative confidence. That is such a worthy goal! Wishing you all the best for the growth of your channel - I see a bright future for Real Terrain Hobbies! 😀

    Hello Neil, I’ve just discovered your channel and think your an amazing guy and an amazing modeller. I have only just got back into modelling after some 40 year break. I build plastic kits of armoured vehicles + a few aircraft. I want to build dioramas, especially for a convoy of Tiger 1 tanks (7) and support vehicles. I was just going to make a dirt road, grass embankment and stone wall ( it’s going to be at least 4 feet long ) but having watched your build am thinking I might now build a few cottages, just the front face or side face just behind wall to break up the monotony of the wall. You’ve really inspired me with your casual, no holds barred attitude and the way you make it look and sound so easy. I know it isn’t, precision craftsmanship, patience, patience oh and a bit more patience are needed in making these masterpieces of yours. But I have to say you have definitely made me think that I can and should at least give it a go.
    As for your channel..... DO NOT CHANGE A THING. To many people try to impress or are a bit... umm shall we just say smug or over do it. Neil this is you we’re seeing and trust me it works, you explain everything to us so simply with no big words or fancy shmancey expletives. Brilliant, brilliant stuff and am sure... no positive that your channel will only get bigger and bigger.
    Thank you so much for all your time, effort and expense in bringing us this wonderful channel. I would like to wish you and your family every success in your adventure.
    Take care, all the very best to you Neil,
    Kenny, from Gosport in England ( just opposite the isle of white 😜

      Hey Kenny! Sorry it took so long for me to reply but I read your comment and really wanted to make sure I properly responded, I'm humbled by your words. Thank you so much for the encouragement and feedback. Its not always easy to be sure if all this work is reaching and helping people like yourself. I'm intrigued about your upcoming build, definitely keep me posted on what you decide to do. I would love to see the build progress. 4 feet long is intense and sounds incredible! I'd love to make something that size. You're right patience and perseverance are key! Thank you for joining the community I am aspiring to create here in my little corner of CZcams. ;) The last thing I ever want is to come off as arrogant and let things get to my head. Again, I'm really humbled by comments like this and I know there are much better things done out there by way more talented people than me. Thanks again for the kind words and for taking the time to write out such a thoughtful post.
      All the best Kenny,

      Hi Neil, thank you for your kind words of encouragement as to my tiger build. I will certainly keep you posted as to it’s development. I still have a way to go getting all the bits and pieces for the actual diorama but tanks and other vehicles are all sorted now.
      You’ve certainly made me think more about my diorama and because of this I owe you a lot as I think just a boring road would have been.... boring 😁😂 so again thank you Neil, for a brilliant Chanel and your awesome modelling/ building prowess.

  • @klonik79
    @klonik79 Před 5 lety +1

    It is looking great! There is just one little thing, which is of no consequence for gaming build of course. But you occasionally used supports that would not be needed ( for example in door on base level) and would be there for fashion only, thus unlikely to used. Also timbers holding any higher floor would run across width not length. Long straight wood is hard to get and even more in era where everything from kitchen utensils, vehicles, houses to your latrine in made of wood. Hard woods like oak, maple, walnut in woods would be a lords property and those long ones would be used for hard cash things like to build castles and especially long straight beams are absolute necessity when building keels of any wooden ship ... I think up until 17th century 1 straight piece was only way to get proper keel for ocean going ship as it is very hard to make any such joint strong enough ... Also it is much easier on your back to work with 20feet timber than 60feet one ;)

    • @klonik79
      @klonik79 Před 5 lety +1

      ALmost forgot. Doors and windows upper and bottom timbers on classical / medieval tudor style building would run from beam to beam not only around window for strength, way you depict it would weaken wall not strengthen it. US early 20th century "tudor" houses do not have this feature because they mostly aren't timber frame house only fake it by using planks of wood or fake wood ... But as I say this is not a complain, but something to look into for slightly more realistic / believable result. CZcams is full of videos how to build timber frame houses (especially from US/CA guys) or log houses (finish ones are exceptionally pretty for example)

    • @klonik79
      @klonik79 Před 5 lety

      @@RealTerrainHobbies I do appreciate your fine models. One thing is working on those in 1:1 scale (repair/update/reconstruction of log house/cottage, built in1932, in style used here in mountains for centuries, very similar to Finish log cottages/ houses). Other thing is making them in scale to fit on table, where by far you do better job :) Also you should trust wood more. in certain aspects like tension and compression stress, most construction type woods are as strong or stronger than steel per kilogram (bamboo scaffolds of asia are particularly awesome) ..Of course steel is several times better when cross section area matters and is easier to extend length. This aspects results in a lot of new, relatively low height buildings like warehouses or even certain factories (i am aware of few that deal in wood related products in this area), are again being built from wood around here. They do not need to concern whether pillar is 10x10cm (4x4") or 30x30(12x12"). Made of wood makes it more ecological, also wood is better insulator than steel, 1000m above sea level with temps in negative 20C or lower (around -5F? )on regular basis that is concern too. Fun thing. In some longer log buildings internal walls are there only to allow to tie 2 shorter beams to create longer wall. Perpendicular timber (ie inner wall, does not need to go from wall to wall either, can be a stubb, with only bottom and top beam going across ) is there to hold together in, so long wall will not try to bulge out where two timbers meet. I would recommend to look at pictures for things "old wood house (or churches) in skansen" for sweden, finland, Norway, denmark, poland, slovakia, Czech republic and also alpine style mountain wooden houses of austria, italy, switzerland and france are great inspiration IMO. Even more as there is quite large resurgence of these recently as both live in and recreational purpose house creating high availability of good photos of them.

    the Chain. i..e. Cool, Sweet, Amazing. Heh, Heh, Heh! The 1st vid of
    yours that I watched just last week was that massive gaming board
    setup that you built. Again, what a Creation!
    You sir have a creative brain LMFAO. I don't need this much detail
    but, I still want it to look almost as good as that gaming board that you
    did. This Tavern is something right out of the " Witcher, " the video game.
    A tavern Geralt would come across and stop. By far what I seen, you're
    one of the best!
    BTW, I think Jazza just Flat Out Lost b'cause Your Trashed scratch
    built diorama bested his kiddy Disneyland castle creation!

    The level of detail is... "festival of autism"-grade. Makes me want to make one. I suppose I won't be making interiors for complete buildings.

      Relax relax, it’s not missing it just hasn’t been completed yet. I took a break from this project just to refresh and reset and get my mojo going again. I’m all amped to wrap this up now. Just finishing up this wizard tower build and then I’ll get this one out. Thanks for taking the time to watch them all btw!

    I don't know... that's a lot of weight on a small footprint... if you get a lot of rain where this house is, you're lookin at some serious foundation cracking issues in the future.... resale value is gonna go down the toilet.

    Have your kids ever broken your builds? Cause mine have and I honestly think their test of durability is a curious child.

    it looks so unfinished, almost like it is being reconstructed after it was sacked and burned
