Marmoutier, Eglise Abbatiale Saint Etienne

L’Eglise abbatiale de Marmoutier est célèbre pour sa façade occidentale romane et son narthex en grès rouge des Vosges qui lui donnent une allure de forteresse. La façade ouest de 1145 tranche avec la haut de la nef et le choeur d’un beau gothique ancien plus classique avec ses stalles Louis XV. Elle est également renommée pour son orgue Silbermann du début du XVIIIème siècle et par sa crypte qui abrite des vestiges carolingiens.
The abbey church of Marmoutier is famous for its Romanesque western facade and its narthex in red Vosges sandstone which give it the appearance of a fortress. The facade of 1145 contrasts with the upper part of the nave and the choir of a beautiful, more classic old Gothic style with its Louis XV stalls. It is also renowned for its Silbermann organ from the beginning of the 18th century and its crypt which houses Carolingian remains.
