Lyon, Eglise Saint Nizier

A Lyon, La belle Eglise Saint-Nizier, au cœur de la Presqu’île, rivalise avec la Cathédrale Saint-Jean toute proche. D’ailleurs leurs dimensions sont comparables, 78m de long, 28m de large et 29 m sous les voûtes pour l’Eglise. De style gothique tardif, l’Eglise a été commencée au 14ème siècle, le clocher Est a suivi au 15ème siècle puis la nef a été finalisée au 16ème siècle. Le 19ème siècle a été celui des réparations, de la plupart des vitraux, du chevet et du clocher sud. On y trouve la statue de Notre-Dame des Grâces d’Antoine de Coysevox à côté de la tombe de la Bienheureuse Pauline Jaricot. Les principaux vitraux et les rosaces sont de Lucien Bégule (19ème siècle) et de Jean-Jacques Gruber (20ème siècle). Musique : piano-concerto de Mozart.
In Lyon, the beautiful Saint-Nizier Church, in the heart of the Presqu’île, rivals the nearby Saint-Jean Cathedral. Moreover their dimensions are comparable, 78m long, 28m wide and 29m under the vaults for the Church. In late Gothic style, the Church was started in the 14th century, the east bell tower followed in the 15th century then the nave was completed in the 16th century. The 19th century saw repairs to most of the stained glass windows, the apse and the south bell tower. There we find the statue of Our Lady of Graces by Antoine de Coysevox next to the tomb of Blessed Pauline Jaricot. The main stained glass windows and rose windows are by Lucien Bégule (19th century) and Jean-Jacques Gruber (20th century). Music: piano concerto by Mozart.
