- Echo Park Film Center hosts a virtual screening of Woody Guthrie: Hard Travelin’ (1984), a documentary which presents the songs and writings of Woody Guthrie and traces the composer's impact on the American culture. Archival footage charts Woody's early Oklahoma dust bowl days. His family and friends describe his start as a songwriter and his success with such popular songs as: "This land is your land," "So long, it's been good to know you," and "This train is bound for glory." Moving to California, Guthrie became involved in social issues, particularly migrant workers and union leaders. The film describes his days as a resident writer at the Bonneville Dam, his marriage to second wife, Marjorie, his work with the Almanac Singers and his death due to Huntington's Disease. Throughout the film, his songs are sung by his son, Arlo, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Pete Seeger, Hoyt Axton and The Weavers.
This screening was originally planned as in-person event with a Depression-era recipe pot luck--and boy, are we sad we can’t stick to our original plan! In lieu of actual food, we’re sharing Culinary Solidarity, a downloadable PDF zine full of Depression-era food history and spend-thrift recipes, courtesy of All Ball Press.
The CZcams chat window will be open so come by and say hello!

I am in love with the entire guthrie family. Marjorie is so luminous even as an older woman. Arlo must have soaked in her love, seems he has so much respect for women. Beautiful family, including Hoyt.❤
Love this film. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for posting this great film very appropriate now that Trump is finished.
He's not finished yet. Biden will be finished first.
The movie was great; glad Arlo was a big part of it. Too bad the music wasnt digitized.
