      Greeks do not drink tee or get their shoes off (unfotunaly) at Home.
      But that "Bad Eye Protektion", comes for sure from Turkey, allthoug it is not something you find everywhere
      A turkish Haus doesnt look like a greek House. Greeks love this warm mess and Houses are full of pretty little Things, much too many. A turkish House is for me too cold and emty. Lack of emagination somehow ....😏

    I admit I know little to nothing about Turkish culture so I found this interesting. Being a self prescribed “neat freak” I especially like that you don’t wear shoes indoors. I wear my slippers also. And the use of what I call “hand sanitizer”. I am more a coffee person than tea and have heard of but never tasted Turkish coffee but understand it is very good. As a side note I make handmade journals and recently purchased from Etsy some beautiful lace trims made in Turkey to use in my creations. I was very pleased and impressed with the exquisite workmanship. P.S. I live in the USA. Thank you for sharing this information.

      Annie, boil water in a saucepan. Then add Turkish coffee grind up to espresso, about two spoons each cup. You can add a cardamom pod to it for flavor. Add sugar and let it boil a minute. All the grinds will stay on the bottom so pour in your cup.

    • @bornagainspirit
      @bornagainspirit Před rokem +2

      No this recipe is not Turkish coffee. Turkish coffee doesn't have cardamom in it.
      You have to have Turkish coffee special mix from roasted arabica beans otherwise, you don't get real Turkish coffee taste.
      Most people drink without sugar in it but served with lokum or chocolate.

    When it comes for shoes removed when one enters a house , its the same with us. Traditionaly , home shoes are made of cloth or rattan ( tropical country ) which is more comfortable , but with commercialism , synthetic ones is being use.

    I really enjoyed your tour and like the rule of taking off ones shoes and having slippers to wear ,Americans have a nasty habit of wearing their shoes in the house and it's gross .I love Turkish coffee and had all the little pots after living in NYC .I recently moved and we bought a beautiful rug made in Turkey and I get lots of compliments on it !

      Not sure what guests youre having over, but any house that is above lower middle class in the US considers it rude to have shoes on indoors. American slippers are marketed/commercially known as giant fuzzy monstrosities, but those are sold as a faux-luxury to... you guessed it below middle class markets.

    I was in Istanbul for 3 days before a cruise. It was so beautiful and interesting. The people were lovely to us. I did buy a carpet! The food was very good. We had an excellent private tour guide. I always wanted to return and spend more time but never have. I enjoyed this tour of your mother in law's house. Thank you both.

    Love this video! I always wonder what it looks like inside Turkish homes. Could you also please do a video on what you or you mother-in-law usually eat/cook in a day? Not sure if you already have done a video on that. As tourists, we are focused on restaurants and street foods, but it's good to see what Turkish people normally make from their own kitchen :) Thank you!

      Indeed, except kebab and pide, what you find in restaurants in Turkey is also what we eat at home, but since touristic places are full of kebab restaurants, it's not easy to see. But I can tell you that a typical dinner in Turkey is generally centered by a one pot meal (that contains vegetables and/or meat) or some other type of meat/poultry/fish dish, accompanied by some of the following: salad, soup, rice/pasta/börek, zeytinyağlı (vegetable dish without meat), dessert (might be just fruits).

      If you are visiting Turkiye, and tired of eating restaurant food, look for a home cooked meal restaurants called LOKANTA. They serve home style cooked meals like a smorgasbord. The main Turkish food is beans and rice. At home, they mostly eat stew style food. Red meat or chicken cooked with different vegetables or legumes and served with rice, bulgur or potatoes. BULGUR is also a big item in the Turkish kitchen. It is cracked wheat that is cooked like rice. It is much healthier than rice.
