    I scoffed at GS riders for many years: too old, too fat, only ridden to Starbucks, etc. Then I made the mistake of test riding one. Traded in the Ducati Monster 1200S and bought an R1250GS two weeks ago. It does everything well. And yes, I have added the panniers and crash bars. I don't care what people think, I love the bike.

      The old 'Swiss Army Knife' cliche needs an outing....I have last year's Exclusive with all the add ons and who cares if it looks like a 'Flying Bedstead' it floats my boat. 1 bike, 2 riders and hundreds of upcoming trips.

      The classic gs rider outfit is 0 protective gear , perfect hairstyle , 10/10 girl on the back and riding in the city to show off , one guy exactly like that ended up a vegetable well each to his own.

      Silot The classic GS rider wears always the creme a la creme protective gear, does not care if the others die of jealousy because they can not buy this bike and have a girl who also has expensive equipment. Your description matches to a DUCATI rider.

    I just bought a 2020 Honda Africa Twin Adventure sports - Having owned 3 GS's I made the right choice - BMW imho have outpriced themselves. And yes most extras are already included on the ATAS - Also I'd rather have a key which is no longer possible on the GS.

    • @ThaSideWeed
      @ThaSideWeed Před 3 lety +2

      I mean, a simple clutch pack on my XR costs 700$. There is literally fuck all reason for it to be priced that amount. Same with other parts on BMW bikes, although surprisingly not all components.
      A clutch pack for a Multistrada 1260 is 400$. Significantly lower for japanese bikes.
      I mean....I didn't hop onto the bandwagon thinking it was going to be budget friendly but nor do I really appreciate just throwing money out the window.

Brilliant bikes but they do have a few issues, just had my left cylinder replaced under warranty, valve wear issues are appearing on the 1250. They are a great bike to customise.

      Not a fan of the GS, definitely.
      XR is definitely not perfect and by that I mean it has a lot of small usability issues with me specifically and the way I ride it at least.
      Still the best all round bike I've ever owned. IFor me at least, it doesn't do anything perfectly, which is basically every allrounder ever. But comes pretty damn close in some respects.

    • @mikehamilton9128
      @mikehamilton9128 Před 3 lety +2

      The problem being that many riders don't keep their bikes that long and when you are paying upwards of £15k, the quick-shifter or shift assist should be right from the moment you ride it away from the dealership.

    A few years.back I booked a gs test ride I was already pretty convinced it was the bike I wanted. On the same day , on the same roads I tested an RT.
    I was genuinely surprised how much better the RT was. There is a reason the police ride them.
    If you don't plan to go off road try a RT. Imo they are the best road bike in the world

    • @Jack-yl7cc
      @Jack-yl7cc Před 3 lety

      For half or full day rides I couldn't agree more about the RT being a great choice but, when you start talking multi-day trips, I prefer something more like a Yamaha royal star venture(with aftermarket highway pegs).
      That being said, I would still recommend an RT if you can only get one motorcycle with one major reservation. It really comes down to the local Dealer support in your area and if you want to buy a new bike that is under warranty. For me personally I have three different KTM dealers within a two-hour drive but only one BMW dealer and I honestly don't know how they stay in business because they are Tiny and never seem to have any parts in stock. So, a KTM 1290 Super Duke GT looks like a great alternative to me if I was buying a new bike.

    Great review. I have watched many reviews of the BMW R1200/1250 GS on here and my one gripe is that the reviewers always make the bike look like a little 125cc, as Mann does in this case. As someone with a 32" inseam I might just stick to 'dreaming' of having one of these bikes.

    I bought 31 bikes in the last 7 years. The biggest disappointment was the full spec 2016 BMW R1200 GS triple black. I absolutely hated that bike. Especially the engine and exhaust sound, even with Akrapovic, are appalling. The standard seat was the worst seat I had on any of my bikes. I bought the Rallye seat, which although a bit narrow was an improvement. The seat of my R1150 GS Adventure however was the best seat I ever had; I liked that bike a lot better, but it was very (top) heavy. The ESA suspension is expensive and seems to be quite unreliable. The analogue clocks were unreadable (the old ones on the 1150 so much better), the expensive Navigator VI much less usable than the TomTom Rider 550 of half the price. The engine vibrations gave me a numb right hand. I bought a stabilizer from the USA for the windscreen, as it was moving too much in the wind. I was glad I could trade the GS for a Multistrada 950.
