- Swizz Beatz recently released his latest album, 'Poison,' which features the likes of top-notch rappers like Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, and Pusha-T. Swizz may be best known for producing classics for legends like JAY-Z, DMX, and T.I. but he’s also dabbled behind the mic himself. Genius recruited the producer and occasional MC to give us their thoughts on other rapper-producers. We asked him to review Russ‘ “Flip,” NAV’s “Reckless,” Rich Brian’s “History,” and more, with Swizz giving his honest feedback on the latest episode of Genius’ series 'The Cosign.'

I need atleast some substance in my music however I am into genres outside of Hip-Hop like Post-Funk, Deep House, Lounge, Trip-Hop & Nu Soul. Which makes me more open to less lyric-focused music if it has something other than the beat to make up for it. Like if something is repeated it's gotta sound interesting & connect with me I don't believe in idolizing money so that doesn't captivate me. If you're gonna make fun music then try to switch up the topic or idea you form it about it's as simple as that. Just replace the money/bands, drugs & material items raps with something else it doesn't matter if it's cool to the public or not. We're merely conditioned to believe what's cool & what's not so we don't show appreciation to the wolf out of the sheep. I'm 16 BTW in-case you wanna know.

Swizz Beats is on point and speaking Facts pertaining to other countries appreciating our music more than we do, something i noticed a long time ago while visiting parts of Europe/Japan & many other countries. I observed the music culture in said countries really taking our music/music as a whole as a longterm experience as opposed to just vibing for the moment. In addition to the ppl in said countries not being fickle and just forgetting about OGs/Legends in the music industry in our country and theirs. Multiple music artists from my country (US) from back in the day that have classic joints (some with just 1) are still to this day being booked/on tours in other countries to perform their classics but not so much in their own country (US) and I'm talking about artists from the 60s up to the early 2000s 💯% Facts 😐.
Nav has been producing for a long time he produces before he started rapping idk why ppl don’t like him he makes chill music, it’s not that it makes you sleepy (which is why ppl don’t like him) it’s that they don’t have as much patience if you know what I mean they want more hype stuff
