    Story 4???? “A young man’s life was ruined that night” Yeah your friend’s life was ruined years prior by his abuser, damn him for fighting back???

    • @lacylaizure6540
      @lacylaizure6540 Před 9 měsíci +22

      Right! I couldn't tell you how many fights my brother and I got into. He even through my head into the wall and I blacked out. We were best friends and worst enemies when we were younger. There wasn't abuse like the story, but we would both get heated and just fight. There were so many times we could have unintentionally hurt each other severely just fighting like kids do. Somebody shoving someone after years of abuse just sounds like it resulted in an unfortunate accident. Even if intentional to shove him down the stairs in the moment, I honestly can't imagine the intention was what resulted.

    • @sylverscale
      @sylverscale Před 9 měsíci +38

      Casey deserved every bit of what he got.
      I couldn't imagine cutting contact had this been one of my friends. I would have tried to help them cope with their guilt - because they shouldn't feel guilty about this at all.

    • @aspennie
      @aspennie Před 9 měsíci +25

      @@sylverscale yes! If a friend of mine came to me and said “I fought back against my abuser and they got hurt” I would be telling them “they deserved it, you did what you had to” not “you have anger issues for not wanting to put up with your abuser”. There would not be any hesitation to support that friend because they’d been fighting that trauma for years!

    • @aspennie
      @aspennie Před 9 měsíci +18

      As someone who has experienced childhood abuse, it destroys you. Years upon years of therapy, psychiatry, and any other way you use to heal still don’t erase all of the damage. Kyle was fighting back against the person who made his childhood a living hell, that childhood he can *never* get back. To have the gall to tell him he has “anger issues”, or to believe that his abuser’s life was “ruined”, shows a clear lack of understanding for what prolonged childhood trauma will do to a person.
      When his abuser was out of his life, Kyle was finally happy, succeeding, he had power over his situation and could feel safe. When his abuser came back, that trauma came back, and he turned back into a scared child, but this time he could fight back. How dare you see your friend at his lowest and tell him he needs to fix himself. He’s likely been trying for years to do that. How can he fix anything when he has no support?
      You knew his parents were absent and uncaring when he was a child, did you think they would support him now? You knew he struggled making friends because of his tendency to lash out, do you think he had many now? You might have been the only person he had. And now that he’s dead, you don’t even care how he died? Maybe it’s because deep down, you know it might have been partly your fault for leaving him to rot.

      I think he confessed to OP in the hopes that he would understand the reason behind what happened, that it was not premeditated, the aggressor was drunk, started the fight, and during the fight lost his balance and fell. Kyle needed someone to share that with and someone to support him. He was hoping OP would be that person, knowing all that he had been through and his family's history of abusing him and failing to protect him. He needed a good friend and that friend let him down. My heart goes out to Kyle and I pray that he is resting in Paradise now, finally surrounded by the love he never received in life.

    Story #5 to the alcoholic if you are reading.
    You have already experienced a failed marriage. You need to ask yourself if you want another one. If she finds out later that you have been hiding something this big since before you were married, she may not just be mad about the incident. She will probably start questioning what else you are hiding if you can keep something that big to yourself. She might even feel like you intentionally trapped her in the marriage before the truth came out. Now the seeds of distrust are sown.
    Also, if you are writing this story, i imagine there is a tinge of guilt for not telling her. Can you deal with that for the rest of your life?
    From a logical standpoint, at 37, you have worked hard to get where you are. The older you get, and more assets you acquire, marriage can be more dangerous depending on the spread in income and assets. You are getting ready to most likely spend way too much money on a wedding. Have you figured out how the marriage will affect your business, because if you split, she could have rights to it. Also, the more assets involved, the more expensive divorces get. It seems like a divorce costs more than getting married these days.
    So, if she leaves you now, your heart hurts.
    If she leaves you later, your heart hurts, and you could lose everything you have worked for due to all the expenses related to the wedding, divorce, splitting of assets, and risk to your business.
    My opinion, she loves you for the person you are today. It is possible she will cope with the person you were because that is not the person she knows. However, if she can't handle your past, then it is better to figure that out now before risking everything you have worked for. You can probably deal with losing her, but can you deal with losing her and the life you created?

      In a sense I believe it’s your subconscious guilt not allowing you to be honest with her in order to constantly be reminding yourself of the guilt and pain of what you did, and though it is horrible but you’ve paid your dues.. now you just have to forgive yourself.
      I know it’s cliché, but If she truly loves you, she’ll understand and she’ll accept that part of you.
      Set yourself free, and tell her ❤

      yes absolutely!! "Your my brother, but lets never talk again" I am sure that hurt as much as his own brothers beating. Kyle was just defending himself from a bully who had actually put him into the hospital several times, and made his life a living hell. Then when he said " I just wish I got to say goodbye" I actually yelled at the screen "well if you had been the friend, he thought you were, maybe he wouldn't be dead now"
      He didnt really care about Kyle, it sounds like nobody did. He only cared about how that experience, affected him. Like so many people do when you decide to confide something personal
      Most humans are such a disappointment. But there are a few of us out there, that do care, and would have stayed friends with Kyle, and helped him get through what happened.

    Story 4 & 3. No loyalty in people anymore... That was your best mate, even if he did it out of spite I don't think it would matter. Where is your loyalty? That other kid to, the one who talked all that bs about protecting his family. Found out something truly horrible happened to his mom and that she's a beast to move on and succeed. Well story 3 is still fresh; the guy just found out and is reeling with the emotions of it when he saw family, the people he comes from, meaning the grandfather as well, as the most important thing for his whole life. So to find out what some members of his family were, especially it being the patriarch of the family and him valuing standing up as the man of the house, is going to be upsetting. It is odd that he mentioned not talking to her though, hopefully it’s a short-term thing.

    Story 3: Assuming this story is true, I'm so gutted for you and your mother. Don't ghost her after everything she's gone through; it will break her. If you want to know what to say to her, tell her how proud you are of her for standing up for herself, and for having the courage to tell you the truth. It seems to me the woman is forged from courage and I'm sure she's never heard those words before. It's the greatest gift you could give her and if you don't mean it now you will surely mean it as you get older as family is so important to you. In case you haven't heard it lately, I am proud of you as well. I don't know anyone who would have done what you did for your sister's funeral.
    As far as your project goes, pull the teacher aside and tell them (some of) the truth: Tell them you can't complete the assignment because some very traumatic things happened to your family and there's no way it will be healthy for you going down that path. You don't have to tell them *what* happened unless you want to. Then ask them if there's anything you may be able to do instead, such as the family tree of a historical person (the more recent the easier). Maybe someone local.
    If you speak half as well as you write you'll be just fine communicating either situation. In my experience people always seem to behave better than I give them credit for while I'm catastrophizing in my head. With the exception of my psychotic grandmother, but I digress.
    I'm so sorry you have to deal with all this at such a young age. I had some similar experiences and I wish every day I would have been more open about things. If I'd have talked to anyone at all I might not have gotten so messed up as an adult -- but you still have a chance at a good life. These are your defining moments. As we both know, sometimes you only get one shot at doing or saying a thing before all your chances are abruptly taken from you. I wish you all the best and I'll keep you in my thoughts.💜

    When my son was little, he was a hider. He absolutely loved watching us to see when our focus was off of him for a minute and then he would hide under clothing racks and stay utterly silent until we found him. The second time this happened, I had enough and bought one of those child harnesses with a tether attached so you could hang on to your child. I couldn’t even shop without watching him like a hawk to be sure that he didn’t dart underneath something when my attention was on looking for our household necessities in the store. I can’t describe the level of disgust that some women looked at me with for “putting my child on a leash”. He couldn’t sit in the cart as the cart was loaded with groceries etc and his legs were now too long to fit in the child seat part. And because he had ADHD (diagnosed by a physician and confirmed by a second opinion), he wasn’t the easiest to control when out of our home environment. To me, the harness wasn’t a leash, it was a lifeline. I knew he was safe and accounted for. Fast forward a few years and someone that we know took their child to a carnival. They were standing within easy distance to their daughter who was at the back of a line to get a lemonade drink when a man tried to grab her and steal her as they watched in horror and reacted swiftly. He ran away, but that’s how easy it is to have this happen to you. This wasn’t some big scary city, either, but a small town. It can happen anywhere. The little girl was safe, but shook up. It just reaffirms to me that I did the right thing by harnessing my child in stores until he was at a more mature teachable age of understanding.

    Story 5, the alcoholic. You MUST tell her before you get married. Be completely honest about everything at all times because keeping a secret about a horrific event will tear you up inside and you'll probably lose her too.
    Listening to his story I was thinking, "how did my story get on here?" It WAS my story up until the crash that killed the mother and her child. Thankfully my drinking never killed anyone but could easily have happened. Last month, July 27th, marked 26 years of sobriety. Long story short, I had 10 DUI's in 20 years. My highest BAC was .42, the judge said I should have died. That was only my 5th DUI, I woke up in the ditch with a stop sign lying on the hood of my 74 Chevelle. I don't recall how many of those DUI's resulted in my car being fitted with an ignition interlock device, which I outsmarted with an air tank and a sock. The last DUI I was on my third attempt at driving home from town, I live on a farm 4 miles out. 3 AM, the city cop busted me 2 miles from town on our coast to coast US highway. I stopped in my lane, he opened my door and I fell onto the highway. I looked up and recognized him and said with my wrists touching and arms extended, "Stan, I'm drunk, take me to jail". Uncuffed, I rode in the front seat and we talked. I said, "that's it, I'm going to quit before I kill someone". BAC was .36. Second offense in a 12 year period, judge sentenced me to 15 days in jail and immediately after, 28 days in a treatment facility. Treatment in southern Minnesota was a spiritual facility. It was tough but it literally saved my life. After a year without my license I went to the county courthouse to get it back. While there, I tracked down the prosecutor. With tears flowing I thanked him for sending me to treatment, on the county's dime. He said of the dozens he's had sent to treatment, I was the only one to thank him. Not a drop nor a desire to drink since.

So I would imagine that for her it must have seemed like one day the police just showed up and took her from her parents and told her that she’s gonna be living with these ppl now and that they’re her real parents. Story 4 is basically my mom's line of thinking when I was getting bullied and I fought back. basically taking every other person's side but my own. So I always give her a mental side eye every time she talks about "helping me out of trouble"

    Drinking and drinking can kill a friendship! Friends don't let friends drive drunk! If you're not upfront about how you killed a 19 y.o. and her baby you deserve to have your 2nd wife leave you! Unacceptable that you're a coward!

    I’m sorry but story 5 - that man who killed a mother and infant should be incarcerated for life. Why does he keep getting second chances? What about the baby and mother? They were totally innocent and they paid with their lives for his stupidity, selfishness and gross disregard for the safety and lives of others. If you want to be a drunk fine. But don’t drive and take the lives of others in your hands! Where is the justice for the people he killed. Justice system is a joke.

      I’m torn-I’m a mom of an 11-month old daughter and this made me so sad- and while I believe punishment should be severe after something like this, the ultimate goal of sending someone off to a corrections facility is to reform them for society if at all possible. Sounds like the guy is extremely ashamed, repentant and sober now, and from that perspective I don’t think it makes sense for taxpayers to pay for him to spend the rest of his life to live in prison, that spot should go to a criminal that shows behavior that has a higher chance of being a repeat offender.

    • @TeaPea-jq4ib
      @TeaPea-jq4ib Před 9 měsíci

      @@RachelOnAWhim I respect your position but don’t agree. I don’t believe he is totally rehabilitated because he has an addiction that will be life long and there is no guarantee he won’t fall back into addiction and reckless behavior and repeat his action of going behind the wheel again and killing more innocent people. His sentence was far too lenient and short. It sends a message to others that you can kill people driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and get out in a few years. It’s not fair to the families of those killed nor is it justice for that precious baby and mother who won’t get a second change at life. If he’s repentant that’s good but doesn’t change the reality of what he’s done.

    Guy who had a question if you tell your fiance your past. We can go through all of the scenarios and drive yourself crazy. For me, though you love someone very much, would you rather her find out 10 years into a marriage where she may feel like she knows you well or she could freak out and leave. Every scenario has a positive and negative. The only positive of telling her now is if it does not go well and she leaves, it was not 15 years from now.

    The 5th story, tell her. If you don't and if she finds out from someone else, she'll more than likely be angry, so tell her. She'll probably be upset and shocked but it will just be worse if you don't tell her. And the last story, it's actually kind of obvious that Laura did kill OP's father. She wanted to be with the millionaire, so what she had to do was get her soon to be ex out of the picture and to make sure that the divorce papers were never filed so she can get everything. She probably had this all planned out in the beginning when they met in that grieving group. What a sick, sick, woman. I hope she gets what's coming to her.

    op 4 should be happy to hear that kyle only crippled his brother considering throughout that whole story i was anticipating to hear that kyle got revenge via killing his whole family not maim only his brother. while i am not defending what kyle did, op should realize that what his friend could have done and what i am surprised kyle didn't do was a lot lot darker than what actually happened considering all the torture his friend endured

    Of course Kyle did it!! He'd been abused for years and was finally able to defend himself. Some friend OP is for abandoning Kyle when he clearly needed help. Casey was a terrible person. If anyone deserved to be pushed down the stairs, it was him.

      Seems like a lot of people failed Kyle, primarily the parents. They were not loving parents if they did not provide any structure for their boys, virtue has to be built. That older brother who was abusive should have been stopped and the friend should have reported it. I know he was just a kid. Sadly, we often make out own crosses and I think it was only a matter of time for Casey to get his come upping.

    Story 4: what a sh*tty person to pretend abuse doesn't have consequences. He should have totally been like I Understand Bro, let's have another beer.
    Story 5: If this is even remotely true, ya met your future wife in Church, yea? Come on, you tell the truth and pray for grace and understanding.

As long as i think op is putting efforts in never ever repeating his mistakes he's a good person and accept whatever his fiance decides.

    As for the last story could 100% relate to it, sans the mother cancer death. BUT my dad's second wife has a mysterious widower story of her own, and then my father's passing, heart attack supposedly, but I think she might have been behind it, advising him to take his new heart medicine before a flight to see his grand kids in Texas, since the next morning he woke up did his usual routine and my sister found his bloated corpse beside the toilet he fell off of. You're not supposed to take BP medicine before a flight since it can cause problems and even death. Something she would know as a Doctorate in Psychology, and having been a on-call hospital psychologist for most of her life.

Never have I had such a strong reaction to any story as I had to Story 4. What a gut-wrenching story with a sad and infuriating ending. I was pretty disgusted that the mom would take the abuser husband's side too, sadly I think it happens often. I wonder if her mom was abused as well and that is why she reacted that way when her daughter told her. She maybe didn't want to live with the reality she had married a man like her own abusive father. I hope the Twin brother got a light sentence.

    Story 5: I am also a recovering alcoholic. It too destroyed my previous relationship. I never got a DUI, and I never got in any wrecks during the decade I abused alcohol, but I definitely drove drunk. I am not proud to admit it, but it is part of my life. You killed two people and I think that’s awful, but as someone who has struggled in your shoes, I understand the selfishness, the confidence you have in yourself. If you ever read this, I am proud of you for recovering and making amends in your own life regardless of what you did. Accepting your mistakes and taking steps to rectify them is rare to see and that’s something to be proud of. I know you feel guilt because I do and I just have been there. But you have to tell her. It might cost you the relationship, but you have to tell her because if she does find out herself, it will still cost you the relationship and it will cause additional guilt. I truly hope you have figured this situation out. You obviously felt remorseful for what you did and took steps from that day forward to make a positive change in your life to fix. You have to tell her man.
