I tried the jar method a few months ago. The first batch still have not germinated since May. The second batch I started in early June and I have a few germinating!! I'm so excited! I kept mine on a sunny windowsill. For the pineapple tops, you can try placing the exposed bottom with roots in a little water in a jar and let it sit for a few months, changing water as it gets cloudy (warm temps help the white roots come..I just kept mine on my sunny balcony a few months). You can also try simply planting the top with the exposed roots in soil. Even if your middle rots (usually due to water) you can pull the rotted middle out and shoots will grow back. I learned the hard way to have several months of patience with pineapples. Thanks for your super video!

If you lack sunlight you can always use a lamp. Just buy the lightbulb that's equivalent to sunlight and put it by your seedlings. It really helps.

Thank you very much for this video. I followed your jar's instruction last September, but because of the lack of sun, I place the jar on top of the refrigerator which is a warm place. On late February, each little plant was one centimeter tall! They are so cute!

Thanks for your video. It took the guess work out of germinating pineapple seeds. I used your jar method about a month ago in hopes of germinating seeds. Today I noticed that two of the seeds have something white poking through the base. I think the roots are forming. Yes!

I have seen this on sprouting pineapple seeds and did them. I currently have 10 seeds that have sprouted and I put potting soil in a clear container that fruit came in and watered it and put lid on it. I have it on my covered back patio where it gets morning sun. It took 3 months before the seeds sprouted but i guess i lucked out with good one. I have even planted a cantaloupe seed in a flower bed and got one cantaloupe. It was quite tasty.

This is really cool! I rooted a pineapple top about a week or two ago it rooted and now needs to be transplanted into a 6 inch pot (currently in 3 incher). As far as I can tell pineapples put out a ton of roots quite fast. Have fun growing pineapples I know I am!

I was showing my baby pineapple plants to someone who loved them so much I just gave them to them, so now I have some more started using the jar method, there still only about 4 mm. tall. I live in Rockport TX. (zone 9) so I don't have to cover them to much, but we do sometimes get down to freezing. I sprouted a coconut that's doing great but I don't think it will handle the cool temp. in the winter just like the pineapple but as it get larger I won't be able to cover so well, but it's for fun.

Gonna try to germinate in the jar first and see what happens. I have been told that these seeds are all considered hybrids and can produce a variety of different pineapples.

I had never thought about growing by seed until I ran across a lot of them and saved them from the trash. I think I will try your bottle method as well. If your pineapple is taking 5 years to make fruit, you may try this :
After a year of plant growth, bag the whole plant with pieces of cut up apple.
The ethylene gas produced triggers the plant to make fruit.
If you have a clear wrap you can see the plant .I would take ot off after 3 to 4 days. Good luck.

The biggest of the 5 plants I have in soil, has about 5 leaves on it & is about 5mm tall. I use a loop to look at them. I'm now trying to sprout out some seeds that are about only 12% the size. I'm got some in a glass jar, but thees I think might be better just laying on some planting soil, & mist them often, until rooted

Very interesting video. I would like to give a hint why the seeds in a jar develop fast. It's because of oxigen. All seeds need oxygen to develop, oxygen helps oxidation of the seed crust. Some seeds need less oxygen, but some like seeds of tropical fruit needs alot oxygen for growing not only in the begining but all the time. This is the reason why this seeds grow slowly in the nature, because they lack oxygen.

I did make a video on my side shoot pineapple plant (it's on CZcams), as of now is almost as large as the top the it came from, the top that it came from has not grown nor has it died back or anything, they are still connected.
