Take heart. Growing pineapple requires lots of patience because it grows very slowly. The good part is very hardy and does not need much care or have any pest-related issues. I have made a video showing the growth rate of seeds vs the crown method in this Part 1. Remember to check out part 2 as well...both videos took more than a year to complete!!

The only way I ever knew how to try and grow a pineapple was just twisting off the top, making sure there's no meat and then letting it root. I had no idea that there were seeds in there! Thank you so much for that one!
Bruh same i had no clue seeds were in them none
There are seeds, but not many. Strawberries have seeds too.
Of course there's seeds.
She's right
Decided to grow some pineapples during pandemic, and there's a new little fruit growing right now!
That is awesome!
I’d never have this kind of persistence, major respect
Even if today you don't, you are doing your future self no favors by saying this. We as humans build up persistence by getting rewarded by our efforts. Start with a small plant and your persistence muscle will start growing and growing until one day you might accidentally have a pineapple tree.
@@user5214 well... no because pineapples don't grow on trees :p
That last clip of all the pineapples is just 😍 so inspiring!
Remember to check out part 2 , whereby I record this plant from flowering to harvest!
You did so much more work on your crowns than we did. We just cut the top off let it dry for a few days then plant in dirt, kept watered and it grew. Got a nice pineapple on it a few years later. Have done this several times and have 4 or 5 now.
I know that works as well, pineapple is very hardy, definitely can straight in dirt
Thanks for the video I have a few seeds I'm trying to sprout. Did you place them in the window seal or in a dark place to sprout
So many pineapples! It must smell amazing
I knew the second step but I never knew that pineapple had seeds thank you for letting me know
What was the white thing u dropped in the centre of the plant at the end of the vid buddy ??
Actually really nice to see this from an engineer. I also have a garden full of plants and I am too an engineer. 😊
great, just apply all the engineering solving skill to gardening, it works

Interesting and good guide to growing pineapples.
Thanks helped me in learning composite fruit in Botany . Thanks
My mother plants a kind of this pineapple 🍍 in her garden. I do love to eat it. It takes 2 years to grow up and the 3rd year, it will give you a fruit enjoy it!
I currently have three going. They liive outside (nice Florida weather). One, two and three years old. I am waiting for the three year old one to fruit, it should be any time.

I followed it exactly and my pineapple top from the store bought pineapple has roots in about the same time frame of 12 days, so be patient and it will grow!
Is it growing
@@maryclark7037 indeed it is! It's actually got 2 new plants growing up that are taller then the original. It took a while to root but it's been Simple to care for and I can now split the 2 and I'll have a 2nd of similar size.
Did it work?
@@mcfokkinw absolutely!!
Took a while to get roots (month) but once it did I transplanted it into soil and put it on my patio.
It actually split into 2 plants and was going really good until my cats got a taste for rhem, sadly they finally died BC all the leaves were chewed off.
Doing it again this year I just need to figure out how to cat proof it lol
Never put it on pizza!
It's amazing how long it takes to grow a pineapple, and then I see them at Walmart for $1.56.

Thank you for your warm and encouraging comment!!
I never thought it took that long to harvest pineapple
I came across this video on my fyp, a couple months ago I bought a pineapple plant from home depot and it currently has white fuz on top of the soil, I’m going to watch this video and see if there’s anything I should be doing differently. Thank you for uploading this!
Glad you stop by , happy gardening!
You can sprinkle the top of the soil with cinnamon to get rid of the mold, but if it's white and fuzzy it'll only be on top of the soil and is basically harmless. It's just breaking down the compost in the pot
@@joshuamorris3364 ,thank for the tips. I haven't try cinnamon powder before. I will experiment using that
Enjoying the song in the background 🥰
The footage is very beautiful and professional. I am completely captivated by the wonderful moments you created in this video. Fully support the channel and look forward to being with you for a long time.👍👌🤝🙏

Such a fresh and organic harvest
I had no idea those things in the fruit were the seeds. Thanks for the tip. Time for me to get busy and fill my greenhouse with these. There are always people wanting pineapple plants.
You don't need to root them in water. I twist the crown off the pineapple, remove the lower leaves, and it goes straight into a 1 gallon nursery pot and in my greenhouse (to keep the wind from blowing it over. South Texas is very windy).
Yeah, I done that before straigt to the ground...but I purposely experiment this ...is fun to see how the roots developed in water. South Texas...that is good zone for most of the crops and gardening.

Spring and fall are good. but we can have weeks and sometimes months where it's over 100° every day during the summer months. We've already hit 99° several times so it's just a matter of time. I do grow a lot of cacti and super-hot chiles.
I did one from the crown, got sm a pineapple from it.
Cool video!
Will be doing this soon! Great video! I am opening a couple greenhouses next year. Will try n propagate some Pineapples this way!
Sounds great!
How do they grow?
It takes 2 YEARS?! To grow pineapple from seed?!! I'm surprised pineapples aren't more expensive!
Well on the past idk what year, but pineapples was was considered royalty or wealth, and rich people will rent it even when it was decomposing the pineapple was always on a parade and people rarely ate it but when Hawaii started to farm it it lost its symbol of wealth or royalty.
I always thought pineapples grow from trees.
Me too
I thought the same lol
Yeah, me too! Then someone took me to The Eden Project in Cornwall and there was a pineapple growing low and slow in the control of the heated greenhouse! What made it even more amazing was the staff had put native South American species of bird and beasts in there to creep about in the humidity while it was (as usual) piddling with rain outside.
I think everyone did
Me too. But turns out pineapples grow on other pineapples
Nice résumé at the end!
love it
Nice video! I didn't know the Calcium Carbide trick. I started my pineapples from crown too and this past winter I left them outside to test cold tolerant limit. They are still alive but looking ugly at the moment. Yours looks so good! ^^
another better method will be the ANAA pills aka Alpha Naphthyl Acetic Acid, is a synthetic plant hormone . you need these to have a farm the uniformly bear fruits , so you could harvest and market at same time. After you put in the pills at the center crown mature plant , it will induce flower in 2 months time

Wow, you name it ....happy gardening
nice video.
question - so, one pineapple tree gives you just one fruit after a year or two? or, you cut the fruit and keep the plant and it will grow fruit again?
After it fruit, u either grow from the crown all over again or from the suckers.
@@TonysExploration so does this mean you only get 1 pineapple every few years ?
@@paigeburton8995Yes, very much depends. If you are talking about farm scale, some countries does practice to have second or third ratoons crops from the suckers.. Some will have the whole fields clear before replanting with the new suckers ..but regardless how, the first cycle definitely will take few years...and that why I never complaint about pricy pineapple after putting myself into their shoe.
I currently have a pineapple top in water (:
Thank you for sharing growing techniques. I had no idea that pineapples had those seeds 😩
You are so welcome!
did it grow?
It is important to plant pineapple in Dec or Jan or they will not reach full size and you will have a half sized pineapple... It will still taste good but if planted in Dec or Jan it will grow to full normal size
which country does this apply to?

Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank for watching
Excellent work.
You can use Cinnamon as a root enhancer. cinnamon is safe for plant, safe for soil ( has even some benefice) and act as a root booster. try it! pour cinnamon directly on where root will grow or already grow and you'll see a result faster. maybe 6 days instead of 12 days for exemple.
Ya , I always heard about this method. Maybe I will try out in near future
Ground cinnamon ok? I have some cuttings I am trying to get to root. Is what you’re saying that putting cinnamon on their soil help?
@@firstname7769 you can mix cinnamon with your soil OR put grinded cinnamon directly to the stem where the root grow. Cinnamon doesnt burn your root.
Thanks my friend
Is this a good time to start growing it? I live in Rome, Italy, it's very hot through September
That I can't advice, because I never live in European countries...my best guess if warm and hot enough, it should able to grow...the southern Italy probably have best chance

Awesome!!! I have a pineapple, and I'm going to try this. ALTHOUGH I live in the NorthEastern U.S., and I DID actually attempted before, but failed after the dirt pot step, as it grew fungus sadly, about half a year of attempting to grow it, and failed. But hopefully it does not happen this time!!!! (Also do not got fertilizer, but I believe it will still grow, just it'll take longer time and less likely chance of flowering. But I do not mind.) Good luck, everyone!!!!
During seedlings, use the fungicide to increase the success rate. Don't worry about the chemical, by the time you can harvest , is 3-4 years down the road!
I'm using the crown method to grow a pineapple.
Thank you!
It's been over 15 days,I potted rooted crown, which I placed in semi shaded all this time.should I now put it in full sunlight?
probably on the safe side, another week would be better
How’s it looking
Qué maravilla de la naturaleza!!!
Gracias, poco espacio que tengo voy tratar de plantar.
Give it a try, remember pineapple loves sun!
You know, some tweezers would make handling those seeds and seedlings a lot easier. Just make sure to get some good ones if you want precision.
Thank for the tip. Ya I think tweezer will work better
Using the top of the pineapple works too.
this helped me grow my pinapple😃
The best video I've seen
Thank you!
the pineapple on my contry is the type that dont have seeds. i plant the thorn leaf sprout of they and need to wait 14 to 17 months for a little pineapple 1/3 or 4th of the normal size, but with alot more juices and so sweet that if have more i will get sick of
do you have link where we can buy the alpha napthalene acetic acid? Thank you!
Unless you stay in a country that have pineapple plantation, else if very hard to find this ...I don't think I ever saw in Amazon...I know mostly Asia country shopping platform does have like Shoppee Malaysia...but not sure if they post oversea
Hey, I would love to plant some but where can I get just the crowns, or is that not possible
I bet your supermarket sell pineapple without the crown....most of the imported pineapple never carry any crown....i think you have to search around within your online gardening group or community.
@@TonysExploration thanks
If I grow it just from using the top, will it last a couple of years in comparison to growing it from seeds?
I guess from seed , you need additional 8 months or more compare to top
Does the common rooting hormone help pineappled roots grow?
Yes, it may help
8:04 i also have a pineapple orchard just next to my garden 😁
Great...that is where you learn all the magic!
top😍
Where do you get that Calicium Carbide drop from?
I do agree very hard to find these...try local selling elementary science chemical shop
is pollination necessary when grown from the crown? Is pollination necessary when grown from seed?
You still get the fruit without any pollination. The only difference is pollination will produce the seeds and is normally done by hummingbird rather than bees
Is it normal for green leaves 🍃 to go a little brown right now they are in water not in direct sun they are growing roots I started then 2 1/2 weeks ago
is normal if losing a few leaves at the lower or edge of the leaves turn brown, as long as is not rotting at the middle stem, should be fine
I swear as soon as I saw the pineapple leaves grow longer and longer from just the crown it looked like it super Saipan hair
😄🤣
How many times do you water the little pineapple sprouts
As long as it is damp...then is okay
What happens when winter comes? Would it revive by spring? I live in Nebraska
I don't think it can survive winter ...but you might need to find a way to protect from the frost and bring inside.
You can place an apple on top to induce ripening
I have heard of this technique, but I never try ...because I feel like end up feeding the squirrel instead
That technique makes no sense

nine months , very shock to know this duration ! i ate a pineapple tomorrow as well as cut off the root of head to planted above the glass of water . i hope it growing well until the fruit come up on the top ...

@@TonysExploration surprised to be anwser the comment lol... i bought one with wholesale at low price . make a funny precess to plant it.
The pineapple is growing like a plant like to for one year
😊
If pineapple is grown from seeds, how long it will take to bear fruit, naturally.
from crown to harvest , it may took 1-2 years to fruits, if from seed, i bet you need additional 1 more year on top of that
I live in a cold climate. Can I grow one with a grow light?
I doubt so, I do have grow light, which use mostly for perennial plant. I don't think it can survive using only grow light
Yes you can but you need old school sodium lights with generats heat and right spectrum bulb!
Ooooo
So question:
- How often to water if outside? Once a week?
- Also what were those fertilizers the one that went in the soil and in the middle. Also where to buy?
Any answer would be much appreciated 😄
The watering very much depends on your site weather and climate....a good way to tell if the top 1 inch surface is dry...then is time to water...Don't too bother on the fertilizer, it doesn't have to be the exact same as the video.....during growing up stage, a good equal NPK ratio fertilizer will do, or any good organic nitrogen source like composted manure..When it start to fruit, then switch to those lower N , but higher in P and K.
@@TonysExploration Thank you!
please tell me from seed to plant when you put seeds in a box temperature for it minimum aur maximum and when 1st time covered up till seed converted into a plant can we open for water ?? again
and can it grow up 45°C in summer and in winter 5°C to 20°C??? i love pineapple so much and here in PAKISTAN it is import from Indonesia and Thailand in cuttings slices box..
Well, is going to very difficult journey. If you have a few plants, and took the necessary steps during the summer and winter, maybe you can successful. If you talking about farming, then I dont think is feasible.

Yes, you could do that
The marvel of the modern world is that these fruits have a long and extensive growing cycle yet we can go to the store and buy freshly grown ones year round
Yes, 7 billion people on this earth need to be fed ....without the help of fertilizer , pesticide fungicide and miticides ..is nearly impossible to achieve that

Which stage start to rot? When you put on water or when you planted ?
@@TonysExploration put on water unfortunately it hasn't got roots
perhaps you left Abit of the fruit on the crown that little nub contains sugar which is hospitable to bacteria and mould. cut it off so you leave only the plant, no traces of fruit when getting the roots to grow.

CaC2(s) + 2H2O(aq) → C2H2(g) + Ca(OH)2(aq)
