Oh I so wish we lived closer! My husband does woodworking as a hobby and he was so excited to hear about the canning jar wall! He made one for us in our previous home and is chomping at the bit to find a place in our new much smaller home. Sadly, I don’t think we have the room. He says to me “Where do they live? Close enough for me to go help Travis make that?” When I told him you were in Virginia, he was like “Darn!”

Looking at jars is so satisfying. I remember when Jenni Gough moved all her jams and jellies into a tall , corner cabinet and she left the doors open. ❀ It was like a cabinet of jewels! So pretty.

I've been making peanut butter for many years, I'm 80 years old. I just use roasted peanuts & about 3 teaspoons of oil. It really depends on the nuts, some a drier than others. I use my Cuisinart, it will let you know if a little more oil is needed. Good luck and have fun. 😊

      @georgiegirl6815 Pƙed rokem +2

I roast raw peanuts and while they are still warm pop them in a food processor. Warm nuts seem to let out more oil. Feel free to add a touch of cinnamon or cocoa powder

I think the canning wall idea is going to look amazing! Especially if you can get the matching style and wood as the sils and floors. And so long as it’s essentially your “I’m using this right now” stuff there’s no reason why you can’t have it be pretty and on display! Thank you so much for being such an inspiration to all of us. Not sure if anyone mentioned this. I ferment my feed. You don’t have to rotated 3 buckets. Just keep 1 or 2 cups of the already fermented feed and add it to a new bucket of fresh feed. It will ferment overnight since you already have a starter from the last bucket. Best of luck! Fermenting feed is great for the animals, esp in the cold months!

You're so inspiring. I've already raised my family but in retirement I've realized I'm very lucky to have grown up with a pioneer Lutheran Norwegian family who worked farms with horses, raising hops, always a garden as well as working in the fields. They would share and trade with neighbors as well as having work horses. We canned and later in life my mom dried food. Too many things I feel blessed to have been exposed to. We've had a garden so our boys were exposed to that but it's exciting to be sharing with them as adults. I find as my yard has become shaded I gr9w and dry many herbs. Health issues for some of us, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, severe IBS-D, lactose intolerance have drawn us back to a more healthy diet. So excited about your butter. You can make ghee, and also freeze. I think you can freeze some cheese? We rarely eat out. I'm so happy to see many people getting back to basics. Bless you for sharing.

Jamerill, canned pears are great but if your kids like apple butter and apple sauce, you may want to make crock pot pear sauce and pear butter. Both are easy and chunky pear sauce is a great side with pork or chicken especially. Pear butter doesn't even require you to peel the pears. You just run them through a food mill when they soften, add sugar and spice as desired and can. Just a thought in case you get near the end and want a quick and easy finish.

Homemade peanut butter is super easy, especially if you have a vita mix. Just roast the peanuts in the oven on the tray until lightly toasted. Toss them in the blender with the tamper until smooth or chunky as per your family's preference. You can add some salt if you prefer and jar it up

None of us here would ever want you to do something you didn’t want to do & you have great visions! You keep doing you, & all of us out here are ready to give opinions if asked for❀ I am very interested in starting fermenting for my animals, I ferment for my family in the house, why not outside. I need to research if they don’t eat it all in a day, do I leave it until they do? Or,what. Throwing it would be counter productive...I love researching though. If anyone here in the channel knows, I’m open to all suggestions 😁

I love making nut butter! You can use your food processor or high speed blender. Some people toast the nuts in a dry pan first but you don’t have to do that. I don’t anymore. You have to scrape down the sides every so often of either tool you use. It will come into a lump that you’ll need to break up a couple times. But then that stage will pass too. You can season it as you please. I add not only Redmond’s real salt but cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, cumin. Don’t ask me amounts. I add enough. Some. Not all spices every time. But whatever my mood strikes. That’s how this chick rolls. You can even add a sweetener. Not maple syrup but maybe honey or some coconut sugar or raw sugar. Play with it and see what the fam loves. Enjoy the process.

What if you switch some of the cabinet doors to glass on the long cabinet wall to display your jars. You could do a vertical or horizonal section. And a bonus you would be able to look at them when your doing prep or canning at your island. It would act as art and bring color to the all white cabinet wall and you know you like color.

My chickens egg production doubled when I STOPPED feeding Dumor. Figured it out by accident. I ran out of feed and stopped by a feed store for a bag of 16% lay pellets. Multiple brands, they lay great. Hundreds of hens over the years. :)

Safety first but if it has worked for Jessica, it will work for you too! So you could have your canning shelves for the stack you will use and maybe, when you remove the baby kitchen, you could have more shelves there. That way you will get pleasure from seeing it as you pass through :)

Just an idea and it doesn’t need to be complicated but what if you add some cute white shutters to your shelves that open and close easily. So during the late afternoon you could shade the jars from sunlight and during the morning and evening have the shutters open to show your display of canning.

Im so happy to see your video up this afternoon. I truly am addicted to your channel and your presentations no matter the subject content. Being handicapped and basically homebound, this 81 year old thoroughly enjoys watching the CZcams, especially you and your sweet family.â€đŸ˜Š Added idea....Use jars for your freeze dried foods to display on your shelves.

Jamerrill I hope you have a wagon to haul your feed to your animals . Those buckets can get heavy fast and you being a new mama should not be carrying anything too heavy. ❀

đŸŽ‰â€đŸŽ‰ Canning shelves solution It occurred to me that the beautiful color you wanted with the jars. Maybe take pics of your jars and blow that up and put it on the wall so you can enjoy the color and no shelves to build couch can stay. It’s lovely there btw and no dusting. ?? Hope that might give you a 💡. Much love from Oklahoma

Just a thought about the canning wall- you could use it as a mini prep pantry for upcoming meals for the week or month. So that you didn't have to run downstairs to get canned ingredients.

Every time I see large amounts of pears I wish I had my Aunts pear relish recipe. It's sooo good to eat with dry lima beans or navy or pinto beans!

I’ve been watching you for years & 1st time I’ve commented
the “negotiating with you” got me😂 It’s your space, we all will mind our business once you do it. Have you considered a chair & a half with an ottoman for that space? I have an oversized chair I custom ordered from Joybird
my kids call it the cuddle chair. Best place ever to cuddle up & read books to them. Kitchen looks amazing & I’m living for all your canning projects.

I melt lillys chocolate chips, pour some into the bottom candy paper cups , let them slightly cool, then I use powdered peanuts, add my sweetener and enough water to make a dough. I roll them into balls, slightly compress to a size that when placed in the cups leave room for the next pour of chocolate to go to the bottom and around the disc, fill to cover the disc and there you go!

makes sense on the canning in the window, plus you don't live in the southwest like us. I tend to forget I have items when it is out of sight out of mind

I like Lily’s too. I can’t do their peanut butter cups because (I think) they have coconut in them, which I’m allergic to, but I like their chocolate chips a lot.

Hi. Can make the suggestion that the canning wall is only one jar deep. That will give you the colour and jars you want and still keep most downstairs. A refill once a week with known projects situation.
Don't know what you really plan but if you side glass panels on each row they can maybe get treated with a special flim that maybe block harmful light. If that happens you could maybe have your freezed dried good/herbs a more permanent home
