Our goal with this video is to share our experience since deciding to move to Tampa and call the Sunshine State home. We'll share our housing expenses, the overall cost of living, the reasons we decided to move, and even our top 3 cons of living in Florida so far.
We hope you get what you need from this video, but if you have more questions, feel free to reach out. We're happy to help. And if you're considering moving to Florida, we'd love to be your real estate agent of choice.

Buy a house with a pool and get a boat. It's a great life! I was born here, 66 years in Clearwater. It's a great life for me to be retired now. I can enjoy my boat on the weekdays when everyone else is at work.

Moved to Florida in 1978, to the Tampa area in 1980, raised our kids here, watching of grandkids grow up, growing old together.
Hell yes we would do it all over again. The greater Tampa area is an exciting place to live.

Thanks for all of your videos! They have been extremely helpful for us as we just signed for our first property over in Santa Rosa Beach in 30A. Just being able to see what you guys are paying for homeowners, water, electric, etc has made us feel confident in our move. My wife's family has had a condo in Clearwater for 20+ years and we have always loved that entire Tampa, Clearwater, St.Pete's area. So happy for your entire family and who knows, maybe we will bump into you when exploring around Florida!

My husband & I were stationed on the western portion of the panhandle in Fort Walton Beach for a decade before we got orders to Albuquerque NM. The last couple years in FL we couldn't wait to move due to tourist traffic & the humidity. After being away for about 3 yrs, we miss it, so much, & are trying to get orders to Macdill.

I just moved here from Louisville ky after vacationing in cwb for years. My honest opinion is location is EVERYTHING. I ended up in New Port Richey and it honestly made me regret my move 10000% percent. The rent is cheaper in NPR but there's a reason for that... Do not move here without doing your due diligence and research the area of town you're in....I'll be heading back to KY at the end of my lease because FL daily living is not the same as fl vacationing....

I moved to Central Florida (Kissimmee) in 2002 from New Jersey to wrestle alligators.
    I did.
    For 6 years.
After that I wanted to move back up north. I missed it terribly. Missed the seasons, mountains, etc. By that point however, I was married to a Florida native. Fast forward 18 years and we’ve thought about moving still. Fl has gotten too hot, too expensive, too crowded, and on and on. However, anytime we’ve gone looking at another state, we just can’t find another “home”, which is what Florida has become. We’ve put down roots in S. Lake County, grown a family here, have a support system. Family and friends all are in Central Florida and all my northern friends visit the state at one point or another.
We have come to realize this is our home. For all its quirks, all its flaws, all the weirdness, for all the hot weather and mosquitoes, this is still our home, and nothing else compares. We love living here.

Now we are considering selling a single house in Arizona and trying to find a duplex here, unfortunately the interest rates don't help, but we are sure that our family will grow here. As somebody whose family has been in Florida for over 70 years, the people from the East Coast have invaded southwest Florida area and has devastated iI. they are very aggressive in their driving and their attitude and are generally very rude. Southwest Florida particularly Tampa to Fort Myers area was very Midwestern nice and Folksy. It is no longer enjoyable just ask anybody who has lived here longer than 5 years. I don’t make a living off people moving here and me selling them items or products so I don’t need to be nice about it.

I moved to south Lakeland highlands FL in 2021 from Boston area and love it here, great community and lots of natural things and outdoor to do within an hour commute. I bought just before home prices got crazy high and this is a nice and quiet newer community. No complains. Both home and car insurance still decent because we are away from crowd, away from hurricane (kinda) and definitely not flooding zone (I live up a hill).

If the wind isn't blowing the bugs will bite at the most inopportune times! If your not from Florida your skin will react to the bites... Best to save your money and visit Florida in the winter when the climate is temperate because it is HOT three quarters of the year... It has become expensive to live there so visiting is the perfect option! Home prices have become exorbitant for the average American, so sell now while you can make top dollar! Affluent people are not affected by the price change down there and they are still buying... Otherwise, toughen up say your prayers and get use to the weather and bugs from May through October! If you're rich park your money there, tons of empty vacation homes ready to house your money

  • @maureenharrington3547

We moved for my husbands job to Orlando 5 yrs ago from San Diego btw…best weather in the whole country…kept house and rented it…I have been back in San Diego for two years now…husband still in Florida getting ready to retire…I never acclimated to the insanely hot weather…met people who instantly made derogatory comments if we said we were from California…the political climate was toxic…property taxes and homeowners insurance about three time higher in Orlando than San Diego..our car insurance got cancelled for no reason….we had autopay…and AAA never told us…DMV did when we paid our registration..thank god we didn’t get in an accident hurricanes and tropical storms 😢…we came to Florida with an open mind but will be leaving the state when husband retires and going back to paradise for us…I laugh when people make negative comments about California…and realize how fortunate we’ve been/are to live in such a beautiful place.

In 3 years our youngest will be done with high school and we will be moving to the greater Tampa area from California. We want something that is a 5 minute drive from the beach and a marina (boat). We'd love some sort of view if possible. We fell in love with the St Pete's area when we were there in 2023. Wifey wants a condo, I prefer an SFR with a pool/small yard for the doggos. I'd absolutely love a place that backs up to a canal instead of having to put the boat in a marina. We're from Cape Cod Massachusetts, we live beside the freezing cold ocean in a 2500 sq foot colonial house. YES I'm moving to Florida asap. We want to live near a warm ocean and warm weather with lots of sunshine ☀️
My husband and I have 4 vehicles.
We'll have to sell 2 before moving.
Our trash cost $150 every 3 months. Our car insurance is $4600 a year. Our mortgage and home insurance & car insurance is all bundled with/ Liberty Mutual 🗽 so we get a deal. The house insurance is $6000 a year, our combined mortgage/insurance payment is $2800 a month. I spend roughly $200 a week in food. And $2500 a year in heating oil.
He likes Venice. I love St Pete!
But for the cost of a house, Venice seems to be a better choice, because we're not rich and we want a nice home, roughly 1800 sq feet. We'd love a pool, & a low HOA.
We're so afraid to move because he does demolition in a union in NY city. He can't find a union in Fl.

I'm in West TX (ELP) now, but in 2 years time (not ready to buy NOW due to the housing market/interest rates, AND not 100% ready for the mortgage pre-qualification process) my Plan A is to move back to CO (Springs). Plan B is The Villages in FL, or perhaps On Top of the World (OTOW) -- both being 55+ communities (no, I don't mind living in "The Bubble"). Plan C is to just stay here in West TX (WAY cheaper, even now!). I hope in due time the housing scene in most places in America is more a Buyer's Market than Seller's so we who are waiting to buy (and need to carry a mortgage, not "rich people" paying in cash up front) -- especially First Time Buyers -- are more likely to find something more affordable. Sorry Sellers... ;-)

Things people don’t realize when moving here is what the day to day is going to look like.
They don’t realize how absolutely grating the traffic and road aggression gets.
They don’t realize how their electric bill will probably double. How Duke has a strangle hold on so many areas and their pricing is vastly more than other energy companies. How expensive water is. How Florida requires year round lawn care. How expensive auto and home insurance have gotten and they keep going up.
Also, how Florida notoriously does not fund schools and they are low on quality of education. We live in Pasco and our son has special education needs that DO NOT get met. Even Pinellas county and Dunedin schools are not ranked very well.
There are a lot of cons.

I am a FLORIDIAN! I live here, raise my family here, pay taxes here, built a business that employs over 15 people here. While I can appreciate that you don't like change, we're here to contribute not, take.
You can take the hate somewhere else.

@@trulivingtampa Tampa and Florida in general has the highest inflation rate of any state since covid due to migration. Trust me, you're not contributing to the BORN and raised population by ramping up prices and city congestion. You're kids were born here. Hopefully they don't suffer the same fate this generation is suffering due to migration. I think then you would understand.

I live in the Tampa area with a pool house too and my bills are nowhere near what you pay. Wow!
Appreciate the information, but for those out there wanting to move to the area it doesn't have to be that expensive. There are two of us and a cat. 1975 sq ft

Tampa and Florida for that matter has gone downhill in the last 4 to 5 years because of the influx of people from out of state…too much traffic, rude people crime ridden it’s hotter now than it’s ever been due to overpopulation and overdevelopment and destroying forest and creating a concrete jungle. For those of you who have only been here the last four or five years you think it’s wonderful but you’ve ruined it compared to how it was 10-15 years ago. You’ve brought your terrible driving and horrible attitudes and ruined a easy going southern state.

Comments like this are so interesting. I'm always fascinated by how many people allow others to steal their joy.
As someone who has spent the last three years documenting the area, interviewing locals, meeting people from all over the state and county, and helping families relocate to this beautiful area, in my experience, your comment couldn't be further from the truth.
The people I've met over the last three years have been incredibly welcoming.
Most have moved here to increase their quality of life and brought that attitude with them.
“The people from out of state” have brought a ton of value to the area. Our tax dollars are being used to build new and better schools, road projects, and update outaded infrastructure. Moving Florida from one of the worst in education to bring ranked FRIST in the nantion.
While I can appreciate your love for your home state, and the past, yiur generalization is off-base.
When you step out from behind your keyboard and get into the community with the people, your argument doesn't hold up.
Figting for the past dosen’t make it better, just old news. If you want a “better Florida” get invloved.
