- Searches on the internet asking "Why Are People Leaving Florida" are trending up. This begs the question, is it really that bad?
It's no secret that more people have moved to Florida over the past four years than to any other state besides Texas. But why are more people than normal deciding to leave Florida?
Is it the cost of living, climate, weather, insurance, property taxes, politics, education, and culture?
Today, we'll discuss why people move to Florida, why some are forced to leave their homes in the Sunshine State, and why others are just choosing to leave.
If you're considering relocating and buying a home in Florida, we'd love to guide you through the process.
If you're considering selling your home and leaving the Sunshine State, know you're not alone. And we would love to be your real estate team of choice.

Old people used to come to Florida for retirement and now they can’t afford to live here.
We went in July to see if we could handle the humidity. Surprisingly, it was easier to adjust to than I expected. When we move, we plan to be as close to the water as we can afford.
(Edit: we also visited Texas and the humidity was waaaay worse there!)
Thanks for sharing, Steven.
Born and raised here and the humidity is bad, been here all of my life you cannot judge this humidity off of a visit. Some of you are going to justify moving to Florida even if flames are coming from the street.
@user-kk3qg5el1m we are moving for about 2 dozen reasons. It will be our US base for one as we spend most summers across the pond in Eastern Europe. Not really worried about the humidity. We have plenty of places to go during that time.
I love the Labrador hot breath example! So true! I can't imagine living anywhere else.
We love it, too!
Wow! Loved the info, thank you!
You're welcome!
Hey Juan, amazing video once again. I have been in Florida - Tampa areas in March 2 years ago then last year January through April to experience winter my next trip is September for exactly reasons you are talking about cis usually I don’t mind hope and humid weather 🎉
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Juan, for this video (and other videos, too)! Agree with you 100%.
My husband and I moved to FL 5 years ago and have loved it since then, just like you! With all the challenges totally worth for us. We love living close to the best beaches, enjoying the lifestyle, nature, and warm climate! First, we lived on the east coast, Boca Raton, but then fell in love with the Gulf Coast and, therefore, relocated to Tampa Bay last year. We do make little less money here than where we came from, but we spend less on travels as FL has everything we love!
All the best to you and your lovely family ❤
Thank you for sharing and for the kind words.
Just moved here the June 28 it’s awesome I love it Tampa is such a nice weather and it’s amazing I love the wildlife
I lived in Tampa area for last 12 years and born in south Florida. I like working and living here but the non stop traffic accidents is beyond infuriating. I’m buying vacant land further south with less traffic
Thanks for sharing!
You don’t have a problem with the Nazi Governor?
I love to move from the UK to Clearwater Florida when I leave college because of the beautiful sunshine and the amazing marine wildlife over there! I already doing some research to learn all about living in the Clearwater Florida area I'm already saving my money up to one day to live in the Clearwater FL some day in the future! 🙏🙏😃😃
Love it!
The grass is not always greener on the other side 😂. Is to hot , too humid and rain every day on summer from June to end of September .
Yeah you might wanna stay where your at until the housing market fixes itself
*I'm not saying don't move to FL, just all the issues are real. And you will experience them all when you come here... once you get over your honeymoon with this state. Then comes logical thinking* also people be getting scammed out here
BTW I was here full time for 6 weeks and Hurricane Idalia Cat 3 came thru, my house is on stilts so I had a big mess no damage, neighbors whos house are at ground level lost everything, most choose to stay and clean out/rehab and stay.
Florida is a very diverse state. Many people do not do their homework before coming here. There are much quieter areas within the state, and more financially reasonable. Look around before deciding on a location.
"Do your homework" is great advice. Thank you for sharing.
I lived 20 mins east of Tampa all my life and it’s cool seeing people come down and actually find out that Florida is a good place to live. but as young guy I got pushed out of my city I grew up in bc of the high home costs and too many people flocking here at once lol
Yeah, that’s the flipside to growth. People getting pushed out. Bummer for sure.
😂😂😂😂 This guy says we have no income tax but you all still can’t afford to live there. Bro you should have more money to spend.
I’ve lived in Tampa 29 years. If you go to Publix now there will be 25 waiting in line in some parts of town. I remember 5 years ago you literally would have 1-3 people checking out at any one time even on Friday at like 5 pm. it’s gotten way busier the beach parking is 50$ for all day pass it use to be 8$ that’s almost 6 times as much.
I relocated from Atlanta to Suwannee, Gulf coast big bend area, I live on a canal and my back yard is water and a boat house, The natural beauty and wildlife in this area is amazing. Juan is very accurate with this podcast. For me 300 days a year of Sunshine carries a premium I will pay, Also living on the coast is a constant breeze, so the humidity is tolerable, vice say Orlando. Suwannee is a remote fishing village and there is very little traffic, schools are very low end, Cost of living is above average. All things considered you are going to have to drag me out kickin and screamin.
I can’t wait to move to Florida! The biggest question is when. I’m hoping to move before retirement… which is 8 years. We have 10 year old twins. I’d like them to go to college in Florida. I heard you mention an article about Florida having #1 colleges. So my husband asked number one in what? Do you have a link to that article? I know there is a great college scholarship program called Bright Futures…. Unfortunately they changed the requirements and now you need a 1350 SAT score. Ugh!
The schooling in Florida is bad 😂 most kids can't even count change. Your too naive 😂
I'm reading these comments and a lot of you people are in for a rude awaking when you get here 😂
Florida is falling apart in nearly every demographic known to man. What a mess. Glad i left years ago. Buyer beware, you'll get more than you bargained for, if you've never lived there.
Making an estimation, how much a couple with no kids, but 2 dogs should earn in order to live in FL? I like your video and content, I do find your info very helpful.
It completely depends on your "ideal lifestyle." If you're planning on buying an average priced or luxury home, savings, investments, travel, entertainment, etc.
The news articles all say somewhere from $100k-$120k. I feel like that's pretty close. You can do it for less too, but you'd be grinding it out.
Hope this help
@@trulivingtampa thank you for the reply. We’re both nurses and we are thinking to move in FL, but we want to think about and see all the bureaucracy. We’ve been there already 4-5 times and we booked already 2 trips.
Born in Tampa I miss it so much
Come back home if it makes you happy.
I am 45 a renter on Long Island NY. Got my credit way up and seriously yhinking of moving to Florida either St. Lucy, Spring Hill, or perhaps Plant city. Debating weather to rent to wait for Housing market to pull back. Or jist take the plunge and buy now can get like 250k mortgage.
Thanks for sharing.
Was wondering about home owners insurance I lived in Florida for a long time but couldn’t stand the job market and moved back up north All my family still lives in Florida My in-laws lost their insurance on their double wide They can’t afford the rates they said Back to my question How much is insurance on a 275k house in the Brooksville or Spring Hill area I can retire now Just curious Thanks Good video
You'd have to know the exact property to get an accurate quote. But from what I'm seeing with clients, anywhere from $1,800+ annually
Juan anna maria is my dream location and i hope to move my family there one day soon. Do you foresee home prices coming more reasonable in the near future?
There is downward pressure on pricing, but you'd have to define "reasonable' for me.
I don't expect a housing crash, if that's what you're thinking.
@@trulivingtampa I know there is a lot of value in Anna Maria. It's very unique in a lot of ways and extremely beautiful. I guess by reasonable I would say this: I get the market has gone up since covid. But I feel it has peaked. There are many houses 3, 4, 5 etc times asking prices / values of 3 years ago. I think that is unreasonable. Yes something is worth what someone will pay for it. But imo it's not realistic of actual value. Maybe we won't see big reductions in asking prices (would be nice tho), but maybe cash will become more and more valueable and have a little more power as time goes on. Some prices are just not worth what they ask. Time will tell I guess.
Ahh feel like equal out people that come in and people moving out. Saw Florida was baby 90s and see Florida now mind blown how city got bigger. One day make it to Florida
Thanks for sharing.
How much are you guys paying for insurance???😂😂😂😂. This State is a joke.
This isn't the retirement state anymore. It's the hustlers state.
*Overall, Florida is too expensive & overhyped* ... but come, just be ready to be in deep regret afterwards. I say visit for a month...if you don't like it. Cool.
Florida it’s not Worth
A lot of broke people here and scammers because no jobs here really paying over 40k. Please leave so prices can go back down. Be scared of the heat , cost , hurricanes , power outages for over 2 weeks , jobs 16hr, traffic , bugs crawling in your home while sleep, and etc .
Hosuing is too expensive. We have to mive out of dtate to get an affordable home. All the good areas are 400k and up.
Your right about the $400k
I have heard a lot of democrats a leaving the state. Because Florida's become such a Republican and red state that they don't wanna live here. Also the high cost of living that has occurred. But it cost alot everywhere . The insurance is out of control.
You're right about the cost being high everywhere. Thanks for sharing.
A hurricane destroyed my house and my homeowners insurance dropped me.
DON'T MOVE TO FLORIDA.
You must hove been in Fort Myers area
But people want to still buy houses out here 😂
Do you deal with long term rentals?
We can help with rental of a single family, townhome, or condo. Just not apartments.
Overall With all The Up and Down Florida it Not Worth Living There as a Visitor It’s Great at Other Than That it’s Not 😢
Even though I don't agree with it, I appreciate you sharing your perspective. Thank you
It's true that home prices have risen 80% since 2018 but a lot of homes are being renovated and flipped for much higher prices. Those houses should sell for more. That's baked in to that statistic and therefore a bit deceiving.
Thanks for sharing.
15/20k in remodeling doesn’t equal 180k
We need to leaving from usa 😢
Hey if people are willing to pay to these high prices and 80% more xince 2018, why not,
Thanks for sharing. Value is always in the eye of the beholder.
If it was free to live here, with its Nazi Governor, I’d take a hard pass.
Who gives a what who the gov is..never seen him lol..good stay out
I had to leave
Sorry to hear that.
Please leave
We full go away
Yes this place is horrible run run run leave alligators are trained to eat kids here 😱😱😱
🤣
Get to the point.
