the grey Xs are actually the frames of the replay, so the points where the cursor position was recorded. That's why they're connected by straight lines.

@@RanggaXD Bruh. We live in an era where most of the people has 1TB hard drives at least and Osu!Lazer (with beatmaps) weights around 600MB. Your computer would not even notice a difference.

Go to a replay and Press F2 to save a replay in osu, that might create a “replay” folder inside the osu folder!
