Product review of the Lester River Bushcraft Boreal Shirt. Well constructed, warm, and an awesome addition to survival and winter wear.
~I was not paid in anyway for this review so it is completely independent and totally based on my opinion and experience with the item.
Thanks for watching and I hope to see you in the woods!
Good question. I prefer wool just because of the insulation value when wet. It is hard to beat a good down jacket, but if you get it soaked it looses its insulating properties and then you are screwed. Warmth to weight ratio, down is hard to beat, just don't get it wet. Another crappy property of down is if you rip the shell containing the down, you are out of luck there too. Hope that helps and thanks for the question!
Invaluable piece of gear right there.
Awesome! I gotta start saving!! I heard you can load up the washing machine with fabric softner and do this until the wool is soft.
I am really enjoying your videos. Especially the one you started on the cap and ball 44. Look forward to more. Would sure love to know where you call home. I live just outside Etowah and have a place in Polk county that has been in the family since the war of Northern aggression.
Thanks Darrin! Nice meeting you at the gathering
hey thanks for replaing I prefer wool too
I bought one a few months back its literally one of my most favorite pieces of clothing. It is worth the the money and will last forever. The only thing I hate is I have to wait till it gets cold again to wear it. If you are a hunter this is an awesome hunting top to have. If you are a soccer dad who lives in a cold climate it is awesome to have. The construction is great. I ordered the wrong size and switching my order was great the customer service is the best I have dealt with. I believe when you call it goes to the owner personal cell phone. The lester river owner is nice and easy to talk to. I know the price is a lot, but just dive in feet first and you will not be sorry. ALSO you can layer it for colder weather or just wear a t-shirt under it for warmer days.
MrLsmiles Yep Jason is the owner, and a great guy. The Boreal shirt is one of my favorite pieces of gear also. Thanks for watching!
EastWoodlandSurvival I keep seeing this video on my watch it again tab. It bums me out that its summer and I can't wear my boreal shirt until it gets cold again.
Thanks. I know it well. In a different life I used to manage Chuck Swan State Forest and Wild Life Management Area, aka, Centurial Peninsula. I worked as a Forester for more than twenty years all over the US and Canada, with a little side trip to Norway and Sweden. Love what your doing. If I can ever be of help. Let me know.

Great review mate im off to buy one
all the best pal
Craig
Those are very nice. I have wanted one for a while, I just cant spend that money on one right now....maybe eventually.
I have one, its great... and "bullet proof" for sure!
i know we are all real tough and hard :) , but what about the itching of wool.
I use an Army- 100 % Wool (Grman) blanket and i really glad that its made of a wool type that doesnt itch, but i know otherwise.
I own one and must do a review as I rate this as one of the most impressive pieces of kit I have, as worn on UK preppers2 NatGeo
Nice review.
I wish I could afford one. Would they consider selling a pattern and blanket ( kit) ???
quality gear last a long time with proper care, but damn $250.00 I think it's time to break out the sewing machine.
If it had a full front zipper, I'd buy one.
What would you suggest the wool shirt ora down jacket?????
Nice review bro. Sure is a great wool hoodie, but pricey. I'd have to save up for that. I wonder how difficult it would be to take a wool blanket or two, and try to duplicate the pattern?
$235! Wow that's a lot. There are a lot of options in jackets available in that price range or lower. Very nice wool tho and I do like it. I'm just a regular joe common man so that's a bit pricey IMHO.
nice shirt
since its all wool, does this shirt feel scratchy at all?
So you can actually machine wash 100% wool ? I have a 90% wool blanket I was thinking of washing and hang drying.
Think I'm going to get one of those Boreal shirts next month.
Peace
Bryan Resch I wouldnt machine wash it personally, I know the tag says you can, unless you have a washer that has a wool cycle. Hand washing is the way to go. They are nice shirts. Saw Creek Stewart wearing one on Fat Guys. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I have seen people writing in the reviews of the blanket I bought on Amazon , that they were washing in cold water.y tag says dry clean only. That's why I asked before I did something I would regret.
I went and got a Medium and I'm wondering if I should get a large. The beauty of dealing with Jason , when buying one of these , is he is willing to work on returns , if you need to. I am 5' 7" 175lbs and I'm built big in the chest and shoulders. A Medium is a little tight in the arm pit after I put 3 layers under it , long sleeve merino wool shirt , T-shirt and an XL sweatshirt shirt. So I'm torn on whether to get a large. What size are you ? Cause that Large does look big on you. Thanks
+Bryan Resch You are the same size as me. I got a large to accommodate layering.
+EastWoodlandSurvival Jason is a good dude and as long as I don't wear it outside around a fire and smell it up , he will let me exchange it , but I still haven't decided how much I want to layer under it. I have a down Jacket and turtle neck heavy weight merino wool I can fit under the Medium right now. But I am starting back at the gym and I know it won't fit after two months of working out. So I think I just answered my own question , a large it will have to be LOL.
Thanks
+Bryan Resch Yes, Jason is a great guy. I have lots of respect for him. He is one that practices what he preaches. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
+EastWoodlandSurvival I just sent the Medium back today in exchange for a large. The Medium was in perfect condition cause it's been unusually warm here and haven't worn it outside. I contacted Jason first and he said it was no problem and it might be 2 weeks for a large to be sent but maybe sooner. It will be here just in time for the cold weather. Thanks
This is one of those things in which the price might be high right now but that's the lowest price it will ever be.
haha thanks for watching!
Its only $235 now. This company genuine too. No Gimmicks or cheap shit
Name of song in beginning?
Forever My Strength by Laughing Sally. It was a band I was in a few years ago. I play the drums and the didjerdoo on that track.
Does it itch?
Nathanial Roy Its wool, its itchy but you get use to it.
Gotcha
$267.00 w/shipping
Expensive gear but you get what you pay for.
$250.... you get what you pay for.
Just buy a wool coat and rough it up a little....or pull one off a tramp, lol.
