The reason why his eyes are black is cause Murdock caused a car crash twice and which 2-D flew out the car and hit his eyes which they became bloodshot and his vision is only blurry.
And the drummer is possessed which is why his eyes are white
His eyes are black bc scary laugh guy crashed his car into his eyes (im not joking) and the impact made blood rise to his pupils so they look black, 20 years later it hasn’t healed

The original members were the lead singer and his friend a cartoonist/graphics artist. Their idea for the band was to blend music genres and break the genre boxes.
Part of the reason they stick to animation was as a way to drift away from the music industry obsession with image. this was the focus can be on the art

Should have checked out the old G-Bites shorts and other things they've been up to the last 22 years. I've been a fan of this band since they first came out, heck Noodle and I are almost the same age because she was just a couple years younger than me when their debut self-titled "Gorillaz" album dropped. They've got all kinds of stuff worth cehcking out. Heck there're a few fan animations based on animatics for unreleased music videos out there that're just as good as the original albums music videos. Such as 5/4 and Latin Simone.
