The older I get the more I appreciate this ending. No matter who wins and what kind of shitty thing is happening in the world, at the end of the day the media broadcasts it, people acknowledge it then they go to sleep. And it does not even matter whether it is somehow positive or somehow negative, it never really changes the big picture. Bonus points for the irony, one of the greatest media traditions. It really sells this scene.
You won, but at what cost? That's what I get from it anyway. This whole war was just an exchange of bullets. That line as well about both sides being engaged in mortal combat had me imagining it on the ground something akin to Stalingrad. Nothing short of absolute slaughter.
When I was around 9 years old I rented this game for the PlayStation and I loved it and later got it for PC. At the time I wasn't old enough to really know what I was doing on the game and I couldn't get far on it so I gave up on it and let it go. Over the years there were times where I would think about this game and it would bother me that I really liked the game but I never beat it. Fast forward about 23 years. I got the Remaster and I finally got around to beating the game. First the NOD campaign and then the GDI campaign. During the credits after the GDI campaign I thought about how as a kid I loved this game and how hard I tried to get through it and there was this sort of feeling of closure and happiness to finally beat the game that had bugged me occasionally for many years. I would have never thought that I would say this, but good job EA. Good job for allowing this remaster to happen and letting Petroglyph (the closest thing there is to Westwood Studios) develop this game. Good job for doing this right and keeping this true to itself. Keep this up and maybe people will begin to see you in a better light.
@@dons634 I know this is a super late response but I just happen to come across this again and saw your response. 😕🤣 I played Metal Gear Solid also as a kid also and I didn't know what the hell to do until I printed off a guide from GameFAQs. Without that guide I would have never gotten through it at the time. Even with the guide it was pretty hard at some parts.
When I first discovered it, I didn't know destroying the Temple with an Ion Cannon yields a different cutscene, so I was confused when the ceiling didn't collapse and Kane just walked away. I was like 'Euh? What's happening? Where is he going?' 🙂
This was the ending I always got. I could never get the ION cannon strike ending no matter what I did, even if I destroyed the temple with the ION cannon.
@@chrisscott7990 Yes there were two endings for GDI. One where Kane gets crush by rubble and another where Kane gets vaporized by the ION Cannon strike.
@@RealEnerjak At least you got credit for killing Kane. If you use Ion Cannon, then the Ion Cannon itself will took the credit for killing Kane ironically despite you used it
I tried to get the Ion Cannon ending, should have worked but somehow failed despite finishing off the Temple with the Ion Cannon. Also, on a different note, I like how Verhoeven:esque the cinematography is, with the news media and tv commercial footage format in the cutscenes.

Something about the use of "Airstrike" for the music during the credits just fits so perfectly.
It gives a feeling of unease to me. Feels like being watched by some high altitude spy planes.
It just gives me a "the world is safe, you won" feeling. You can now finally go home to see your loved ones

It feels like it's implying, "The world is saved from NOD, but the future of the world is uncertain and may not be peaceful."

I got said “closure” about a decade later when I was in college
Fun-fact: If you destroy the Temple of Nod with the Ion Cannon you get a different ending.
I whittled down the health of the Temple and Destroyed it with the Ion Cannon but did Not get the Ion Cannon ending

lol at the guy getting shot, then kane dying in fallen ruble immediately afterwards
