    .75x speed is actually the speed of the chime of my grandmas old wall clock. The chime is the same.

    Not a bad clock, the best ones are from Germany the Hac/junghans and the Kienzel which have the full westminster, these were made in the later end of the 1800 upto the start of the second ww2 in the 1940's its not so much the look of the clock it is the workings and chime rods, My wall clock was bought by my great grandmother and it has been passed down to me from my grandmother, the clock which I was given is a Hac Westminster in dark wood casing, I have it serviced every 5 years as I live in a victorian house which has open coal fires in the living room and dining room and there is dust which comes from the fires when we clean them out, We have had the clock dated and the clock movement was made in 1902 and it keeps good time, like everything old and new it gains 5 minuets and looses 5 minuets, what makes the clock is the chime its a very deep sonorous chime and it commands respect when it chimes as you have to look up to it to make sure its right

      With the exception of perhaps Sligh, they really don't make them like the used to in terms of sound. Some of the modern clocks have an almost music box like sound to them. One of my favorite, deep chimes comes from the Dufa Longcase clocks, hard to find but sound fantastic: czcams.com/video/F11AbGDwP6E/video.html

      I was lucky enough to find one at a yard sale for $25.00
      It looks new, works great, sounds good. I keep downstairs in the living room area to not disturb the Sleeping area upstairs bedrooms.
      I am so glad I purchased them because they were expensive; I do NOT think the sellers knew what they had.

    Do you know how to turn up the volume and turn off the chimes?

    • @PendulumStation
      @PendulumStation  Před 4 lety +2

      I'm not sure what you mean by "turn up the volume" since this is a mechanical clock (it has no speaker). On some mechanical clocks, there is a small pull tab under the clock face you can pull. On others there is a tab right on the clock face that says "silence." If you have none of these options, there is another trick: Place your fingers behind the number 3 on the clock face, there is a small hidden bar that can be pulled down. This will prevent the chime rods from moving. This will silence the clock.

    How often does it need to be wound? I purchased one from a website, almost like this one. What are the 3 springs for...particularly the middle one? Thanks!

    • @PendulumStation
      @PendulumStation  Před 3 lety

      Typically, once every 7 days. One spring is for the time, one for the chime at the top of the hour (the dong noise) and another for the melody. Each has a different movement that needs "powered."

    • @tristangardner3889
      @tristangardner3889 Před 3 lety +2

      Pendulum Station has a good point, but to be more specific, the right key hole is for the chime, the left key hole is for the hourly strike, and the middle one is for the time. Clocks like this one have eight-day movements, and like Pendulum Station said, these need to be wound once a week.

    How often should these clocks be cleaned?

    • @PendulumStation
      @PendulumStation  Před 6 lety +2

      Generally speaking not very often unless you live in the Desert. They should be oiled every 1-2 years (I usually oil once a year). A cleaning should be done every 5 years but I've seen some clocks go 20-30 years without ever being cleaned. Worst case, the gears will become dirty which wears them down faster. At some point, they'll need to be replaced which can expensive (unless you learn to do it yourself).
