Use the alcohol swab itself, rather than the packet. Wrap the swab around the ampule like you showed with the gauze. The swab will do a better job holding on to tiny fragments of glass, so you don't leave them on the counter.
Unfortunately, not every facility considers this as best practice because they don’t like the possibility of alcohol coming in contact with the solution.
Whatever you use as protect should be lint free. Gauge is not at all recommended at all as it will shed the particles into the liquid and it will get injected to the systemic circulation causing strokes
You don't. If you need to save part of the drug for later use, move it to another container like a syringe with a cap or an evacuated vial. The opened ampule goes into the sharps bin so that no one cuts themself on the broken glass.
As a new RN in 1986 I cut my finger trying to open one! Lol then I wasn’t comfortable withdrawing the medicine by syringe! I always worried about glass fragments to small to see! Then the Hospital introduced filters to withdraw the medication! Then I felt more secure for the Patients✅
Thx-- I truly hope you feel great about making this you're saving lives!!!! So much loooove😅
That’s so sweet of you. Thank you 😊!

@@nursingarts_ but stickin the solution in the packet is?
It is, provided that the packet is dry when used.
I used the second way. Alcohol swab for cleaning IV bag port, Alcohol swab bag for breaking an ampule.

Hello! After cracking the ampoule open, a filter needle is used to to withdraw the medication. No lint enters the syringe.
Do all needles have that filtration system?@@nursingarts_
No, they don’t. Only the ones that say filter needle 😊.
Thanks❤❤
thanks so much
Patient already dead😂
Not funny things like this can be serious
Benim aradığım buydu neler çıktı karşıma :)

I don't get it. Use gauze or the alcohol prep wipe pack?
These are just available choices. Often times my colleagues will use the alcohol swab package because it’s readily available 😀
❤
Heck no. Iv tech here. Always on hard surface not in the air and break away from you, no need for all that...
How to store opened ampule

We don’t store opened ampoules. Everything is discarded after the medication has been withdrawn.
No medicine spills out when you turn it over 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Neat, right?!
